Welcome! Great looking cars you have!
  2. Great to see all this stuff! Thanks for posting.
  3. Cool! I also still have my original spare tire and wheel. It's only 52 years old, what could possibly go wrong with it? 🤣
  4. I remember when I learned that my employer would add 50% of what I put into a retirement plan, I was overjoyed! I don't remember the limit but I do remember taking all they would give me! Good times. I also just remembered a fellow worker who told me how he had taken money out of his retirement plan to purchase a camping trailer. He then added how it was the worst mistake he had ever made and he hated camping.
  5. Joe, sorry to hear that. I didn't mention it, but my wife also worked at the Troy Lab and she also lost her job. One of the best days was when Jeff Gordon came for a visit. (One of two if I remember correctly)
  6. Dah...... My wheels were blasted then dipped in an electrocoat primer or (E-Coat) then sprayed with a (new at the time) waterborne BC/CC! Also all free. But the downside, I was 52 when they closed the lab and decided they did not need me anymore. Word to the young people out there, SAVE YOUR MONEY!
  7. There is an interesting discussion on Air Cleaners currently that I didn't want to disturb, so... I have a question about the proper OEM top lid decal for the different years and engines. It's been a long time but I think I remember my 71 350 4BBL from Canada DIDN'T have one at all. I remember adding a replacement decal after repainting my current air cleaner. I also added an extra "snorkel" to the driver's side for fun back in 71. I also painted it in very shiney DuPont IMRON, so I know that's wrong also.
  8. Welcome Mark! You have a great story and great car!

    ss registry?

I found it in my files of MC stuff, never added it to my car.
  10. My 71 Monte Carlo was built at Oshawa, On. Canada, 27 Apr 1971. It arrived at Bill Fox Chevrolet, in Rochester, Michigan, 12 May,1971. I drove it home 14 May, 1971.
  11. The EXCEL sheet has 9 different tabs, one tab for each for the different years and the last one they are all combined. I have so many EXCEL sheets on my PC, you wouldn't believe it..........
  12. 2 Jan 2023 This is a link to a spreadsheet I made (In GOOGLE SHEETS) with a list of old paint color standards I got when the Dupont automotive paint lab closed about 16 years ago. These are painted 4" x 6" aluminum panels with the paint code and Dupont color name on the back of each one. I thought it may be of interest to some of you. Deleted, not working.
  13. Rob Peters No idea at all what that is about. Perhaps the company is closed because of the injury.
  14. I'm still all stock but I thought about this modification several times: https://www.davessmallbodyheis.com/ Or this: My Brothers old 1963 Triumph TR-3B, now owned by his son, went through an entire frame off restoration about a year ago. One change was he had Pertronix added to the dist (and changed to (-) neg ground). He didn't drive it that much when it stopped running. Replaced the pertronix with a new one and it again stopped running soon after the repair. One possible cause, we found out, was he still was using solid copper spark plug wires. He found that is a NO NO! Hope it runs for a long time now with proper wires.

    Gas Overflow

Steve Lavoie, You just reminded me of the gas that would run all over the driveway, in the hot summer, from my dad's 62 Pontiac Catalina. I would put a gas can under it to catch the runoff and use that for my mini bike that I made back in 67. GOOD TIMES!! Sorry, off subject....................
  16. Thanks, good to know. (I did this to see what shade of blue I am) 😄
  17. I like the 66 Chevy Impala Convertible!

    ss registry?

Great idea! My good friend bought a 71 SS after he saw my 71 (non-SS) but sadly it was totaled when a dump truck ran a red light and hit him. He wasn't hurt, thank God.
  19. I mostly use a desktop PC. I log in and have a preset button I click on: https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/discover/ I don't have a preference and Im sure I can adapt with whatever works for the team. Thanks for keeping it running well!
  20. Rear speaker wiring 1971 The three wire set coming down the fire wall through the grommets is for the rear speakers. Three wire you ask? Yes, Left, Right and ground. One more wire that follows these three, is for the electric trunk opener.
  21. Cody, This is great, thanks! Shows the problem I had with my oem rectangular magnet on an angle but the replacement speaker was NOT!
  22. I replaced mine years ago (1996) and the left (drivers side) speaker was tough to fit in. Sorry, don't remember what brand but I did have to cut some of the left bracket out so it would fit but then the speaker still was a bit too large so my dash pad it raised up some and the speaker magnet is touching (or very close to) the back of the cluster.
