  1. You are right Bruce old is not new but then this is new to an old fart like me.
  2. My 72 has a hesitation after shifting out of 2nd gear. It is a 700R4 tranny. I was wondering if the TPI cable could be out of adjustment not giving the tranny enough pressure to shift correctly. Before I pulled the drive train it seemed to do just fine but I have had trouble finding a bracket for the accelerator cable and tranny cable mounting and getting the correct lengths on the tranny cable. I have tried three different brackets and one was so far off you could not even get the tranny to shift out of first gear. The bracket I am now using has just one bolt on the back corner of the carb holding it in place. The has made some difference when I get it set so the cable is at there farthest point from the carb it seems to shift better. I have adjusted the bracket as much as can be done. I am at a point where I am going to make my own bracket so I can adjust the tranny cable better. The carb is an Eldebrock 1604. I put this carb on it shortly after my wife bought me the car. I had a Holley but the Holley had a warped base causing it to to have a bad vacuum leak and run really badly.
  3. Bruce sounds like you are making progress slowly but surely
  4. Dupont has a vinyl that comes in low med or hi gloss. Most interiors are of the medium gloss finish. I would not call it a dye or paint but a resin. The resin is what gives it the different gloss's. If you use it on a seat or door panel it will eventually wear off. I have never found anything that will penetrate vinyl and change the color. Also they do make an adhesion promoter that helps make it last longer. The promoter opens the pores of the vinyl so the resin does bite into the vinyl.
  5. Best bet is the fuse block where there is an ignition terminal.
  6. That is also what I am looking for Dennis. Good sound and speakers that I can turn up the volume on when real classic comes on the radio or CD "Born to Be Wild" anything BTO, Led Zepplin, James Gang, Eagles and Chicago my all time favorite band along with others.

DITTO. Although I did buy and framing nailer there 10 yrs ago and it is still going strong. Granted it is not used every day but when used it is used hard and a lot. I do keep it oiled when using it though.
  10. If there is only 1/4" difference that is pretty good. I have seen cars off as much as 3/4".
  11. could be the bendex is not putting the gear into the flywheel/flexplate.
  12. The less dirt/orange peel the finer the sandpaper
  13. I do not have any answer for your questions. My 72 came with an HEI but it has an MSD box so the only thing in my HEI is the rotor, big coil on top and the pickup coil in the bottom. It works good but thought about eliminating the MSD box and going with a total electronic MSD ignition that my son in-law has.
  14. Wizards, Mequiers and 3M all make a couple of good rubbing compounds. According to how smooth the finish is after sanding with 1500 or what ever you use depends a lot on how much of a cut you need from your compound.
  15. Took the 72 out for a spin of about 20 miles. Just cruising some local neighborhoods and a little bit of Hi way speed just to blow out the cob webs. Sure do sound good just idling thru the neighbor hoods and then stand on it on the hi way. Got a lot of thumbs up and waves along the way.
  16. Yes 2000 up 3000 is used according to how much dirt/orange peel is in the clear. The more dirt/orange peel the rougher the paper used.
  17. Don't say that to loud or he will get the big head. LOL LOL
  18. Back in the day we wet sanded with 400 and then painted. The 400 gave the paint a few grooves to stick to. After the paint dried we would wet sand with 600 before rubbing it out or putting clear on it. The only things that got clear were the more expensive jobs because you spry on two or three coats of clear and sand it again and then more clear. I had always heard about cars getting 20 to 30 coats of clear but realized that they never ended up with that much clear because you sanded between every tow to three cats to get a super smooth finish and deep shine.
  19. No matter how many ducks you get in a row there are going to be missteps and problems but working them out now leaves the later ones to be small ones.
  20. I bought a Forest Green Monte on Sept 20th 1969 two days after they were released
  21. The Dupont paint store I work at has those little plastic things for the small square hole. AuVeCo is the company name on the bags and we sell the for $3.59 and the number varies for the different parts. Big bolts only have two or three and some of the small parts have 10 pcs per pack.
  22. I mixed up some Nassau Blue in Dupont Chromabase a few weeks ago for a guy restoring a 68 vette. Very pretty color if you like blue my preference os RED. LOL LOL

    Starter

There were shims on my old starter but on my replacement I did not use any and I have had no problems. I think the aftermarket folks take a little more care than OEM did. One they are not making nearly as many and the techniques have improved tremendously for bygone eras.
