  1. A tip: I transfer remaining of POR15 to a plastic container which lasted longer than keeping them in the original metal can which will give anyone hard time reopening it.
  2. Mike, welcome and we love pictures so please do share the progress on your Monte!
  3. Thanks Dennis and Joe, will check if it’s tightened or not. Is there a generic gasket for them or must I know specifics to get right gasket? Like this? https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/felpro-distributor-mounting-gasket-70194/5785529-P?searchTerm=Distributor gasket As for the oil sender unit, is it a gasket that I’m looking to replace or replace entire unit?
  4. Did you meant it wasn’t invented yet? 😅
  5. It’s for my 1972 GMC C15 with SB350-it was leaking oil as I took the first step by replacing the valve cover gasket and cleaned up engine to detect leaking. Still see oil spots on driveway as did not find any leak around the covers as it seems to be leaking somewhere in rear top. Question here is if the distributor (HEI) has gasket that might need to be replaced? If not, where else should I look for leaks? i read on other forum to use oil dye with black light to detect leak, I never used this method before, would you recommend doing this or not? Rick
  6. I got mine from The Parts Place in my 1971 and direct fit except for the battery tray that I had to adjust it little bit.
  7. and we love pictures, please do share your progress with us!
  8. Thanks, not sure if can easily access to behind of headers with motor in truck. From LMC trucks as it seems that 307 is with 2 bbl and 350 with 4 bbl, will explore more...
  9. Dennis, thanks and from decoding the VIN, it’s built in Baltimore plant and a 1/2 ton as I’m not sure if the windshield visor is original to the truck. By the way, can anyone tell me how I can find engine code to decode if it has 307 or 350?
  10. Been searching for classic truck to enjoy with my son, bought this 1972 GMC C15
  11. Mark, no I didn’t make my own wires as I used other end on the wire where it goes to distributor then push it through the sleeve down. I had to tape up the rubber boot on each to get it through the sleeves “O” ring.
  12. In other thread, I got the harmonic balancer as well new water pump, noticed the new one didn’t have extension for hose on top as I see it on old one. Should the water pump come with it or I need to buy it separately? If it’s sold separately, what is it called?
  13. Mine is from a 1971 produced in June, 1971, very faded and hard to see.
  14. Thanks all as I placed my order for few things from Amazon, hope to begin the work this weekend 😀 From viewing some YouTube’s, I’m unclear on how far do I push the balancer in, is there a specific way to install it with the tool, like when do I stop pressing the balancer?
  15. Paul and Dennis, thanks and not sure if HF and Amazon have same quality? And do you have preference on installer if the link I shared above is not correct? im trying to find right timing cover gasket as it seems it comes with or without bottom small curve gasket, do I need that? Or would it be better to get one piece gasket?
  16. Paul, it’s SB 350 and thanks for the link as it stated it didn’t fit my 71? Mark, thanks for the tip as I realize the gasket is wearing down. Is this right tool to install? ProForm 66515 Harmonic Balancer Installation Tool https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000A8OGMU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OVDmFbS70B4VJ And I realized I might have the puller as it’s from my Dad, is it right tool to pull it out?
  17. Hi all - thanks for input as this is new to me, please do give me guidance/advice as I am a DIYer. I only need to set timing after replacing point style distributor with Petronix. The previous owner stated he rebuilt the engine and it is approx 30k. Is this what I need? https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NDP6005214?partTypeName=Harmonic+Balancer&keywordInput=balancer What else do I need to do?
