  1. I am working on pulling the engine/trans and can’t get the two trans lines undone from the tranny. If I get the flare wrench on there the space is too tight to get any leverage. Is there a special tool for this?
  2. Yes, more efficiency is a good thing. I drive this car to work and back about 3,500 miles or so per year (mostly highway).
  3. Yes, I plan to do the Pertronix upgrade with the stock cap. I would still want this to appear stock. Do I need different plug wires and spark plugs with electronic ignition?
  4. Still yet to be discussed with the engine builder but nothing drastic. Really just things that will make the engine last a long time, maybe a roller cam. The engine makes good power and torque as is and heads on this are already decent. I will finally ditch the points and go electronic though. We’ll see what other recommendations my builder has. It is still going to look stock when if is done.
  5. Getting ready to pull the engine and trans out of the 70 Monte. The last time these were out of the car was at the factory. Going for a fairly stock rebuild with some minor upgrades for longevity.
  6. The blue, red, etc were available on other GM cars in the late 60s to early 70s which is why there are some out there. I actually have a gold/tan one in my 70 which was originally from a Buick GS. Same wheel as what came in the monte except it has a gold/tan rim.
  7. The 3 spoke wheel would have had a black rim regardless of the interior colour.

  9. Finally got it. As I thought it was a broken piece of the plastic shoe that was preventing the latch from rotating fully. With some help from Joe sending me photos of a latch he had and talking it through I was able to finally see with a scope where the plastic piece was. I was able to get it poked out with a coat hanger bent just the right way and the door opened.
  10. Is that the one where Coffee is pronounced “quoffy”?
  11. I got a lesson in Northeastern accents last time I went to the Eastern Meet. Sometimes the word shocks is pronounced like "shacks". That was a very funny conversation. I was like "what are Shacks?". I look forward to more misunderstandings. LOL 🤣 The southern accent I can deal with since I've been watching NASCAR for 40 years. 😁
  12. Welcome! Great looking Monte! This is a great place with knowledgeable people.
  13. The standard steering wheel for 1971. The optional sport steering wheel.
  14. Bolt the seats etc in before doing final trimming. My original carpet went past the screws. The screws went through it.
  15. It was a special order colour with no vinyl top based on that tag. It would be interesting to know what the original colour was. The build sheet or bill of sale may shed light on this if you have it. Being a Baltimore factory car it likely had multiple build sheets in it.
  16. My flights and hotel are booked. I guess that seals the deal. See you all in Carlisle.
  17. I hope to see you in person a Western Meet some day. If the 2024 location is too far for you perhaps in the future. 🙂
  18. Well said. I agree! I've been part of this family for over 20 years and have been fortunate to meet many members at meets over the years. The cars bring us together but it really is about the people. There's something about the type of people who own this particular car. Usually easy going people and no drama. When I started the Western Meets many years ago the experience with the great people in this club surpassed my expectations. It was family immediately and that has continued. This is why members travel from as far as 1,400 miles for these meets annually. I can't wait to see old friends and meet new ones at both the Western and Eastern Meets in 2024. As far as banter goes, I just have to say "Hi Dennis!"
  19. The factory paint code will be on the body tag on the driver’s side cowl area. Here’s our resources page to help decode it. It does look like it could be Ascot Blue. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/resourcespage/
