  1. Thus far, I have received a lot of interest for this meet both on and off the message board. Must be the drag racing... I will post some info regarding the hotel in October. Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting other members again next year. Some of us in the NW might also get together for a mini-meet in Ferndale again in July. We had a lot of fun this year at that event and discussed doing it again in 2010.
  2. I guess I should thank Debbie too... she probably did all the work.
  3. Nice pics of everyone. Wish I could have been there. Thanks again Jake for your hard work on the meet.
  4. I believe the centre piece is the same top and bottom but the pices at either end are different. The "hockey sticks" on the 71 SS can be pricey when found since no reproduction is made. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
  5. Seeing as how there are very little (if any) members in the Northern 2/3 of Canada, I think Nebraska or Kansas would be pretty central. I doubt I can make the 25 hour drive anytime soon but there are probably others who could do it.
  6. That's a cool idea making the drive as part of the meet. There are some that "informally" do that now but if it was scheduled and such it would be a big caravan of Montes. That would make for a fun drive.
  7. I agree. It is always good to bring ideas to the table and we encourage that. I hope the responses did not appear to be negative. Our responses were not meant to be "negative" in any way on the idea but simply stating the facts from our experience. I too thought the exact same thing when I first became a member "why are the meets not in the middle of the country for all members to access?" After organizing some meets, I learned that there are a lot of variables/factors that go into a meet. It is definitely not near as easy as it seems to choose the locations/events as I thought it would be initially.
  8. Yes you do get credit for "MONTES ALL OUT" name.
  9. MONTES ALL OUT Cruise the Gorge The Dalles, Oregon August 13-15, 2010 http://www.midcolumbiacarclub.org/cruise-the-gorge Schedule Friday Evening - Neon cruise through downtown The Dalles Saturday - Show in the shade in Sorosis Park Saturday Evening - Concert in Riverfront Park Sunday - Drag racing at Dallesport The event has some fun things to do throughout the weekend and the drive through the Columbia River Gorge area is supposed to be very nice. The show on Saturday has 42 awards categories for trophies and prizes. We have never done drag racing at a Western Meet in the past so we thought it would be fun to do so. You can either participate in the drags or simply be a spectator. I for one am interested in seeing some of our Montes speed down the 1/8 mile strip. Details regarding the event and accommodations are posted on the Western Meet page - Click Here.
  10. A meet in the middle would probably get less attendance than the Eastern Meet since it would be further away from a majority of members. When the club used to have only one annual meeet, it was always further East since that is where more members are. Living on the West coast, I eventually came to the conclusion that there never would be the big FGMCC meet out West so I started an "informal" meet which became the Western Meet. It became an annual meet after 2004. I actually feel pretty lucky that we even have a meet out West since most National clubs do not offer one. So, essentially, the Eastern Meet is the National meet as it is usually held where a large number of the members can access it. I think a meet in the middle is a great idea in addition to the meets we have but not as the only annual meet.
  11. Thaks for volunteering Rodney
  12. I just got off the phone with Tim who organizes the drags at Dallesport. It is a 1/8 mile at the airport. He says it is $40 for all day to race (10am to 5pm). They open the gates at 7:30am and registration is closed at 9:45. You must get to the track early to pass tech inspection before racing. Some of the drag racing veterans here in the club can inform you of what is required to pass tech. The fee for spectators is $10 per carload which is really reasonable. It seems there is interest from club members in doing the drags. We have never done the drag racing thing for the Western Meet before so maybe its time to do so. Something different.
  13. Good to see you here Ray!
  14. No multi-day cars shows in Woodburn on a quick search. I thought maybe we could find some racing near Bend to go to on the Sunday if we chose the Flashback event. I took a look to see if there are any drag or stock car racing for Sunday near Bend but not much luck. The tracks that have racing are a fair distance away (2 or 3 hours). The Woodburn strip is almost 3 hours from Bend. From some photos I've seen, the drags at Dallesport (near The Dalles) looks pretty cool. It is held at the airport and it appears anyone can enter their car. I am awaiting some information regarding cost and how to register since this is not included with Cruise the Gorge car show registration. I wouldn't race mine but it would be cool to see some members send their Montes down the strip.
  15. I think I'm even in on this. That's probably me on the phone with Vaughn.
  16. I got more information regarding the two events. The Dalles: - August 13-15, 2010 - They had 270 cars at last year's event - No problem setting up the canopy and club banner - I still do not have a definate answer regarding participation in the drags. I have a feeling we just spectate (still fun though). - No need to register as a group to park together. We just show up to the staging area as a group like other shows we've been to. Bend: - August 6-8, 2010 - They had 419 cars at last year's event - No problem setting up the canopy and club banner (no larger than 12x12) - No need to register as a group to park together. We just show up to the staging area as a group like other shows we've been to. Bend is a larger event with lots of stuff going on but The Dalles has drag racing... Decisions, decisions. Anyone else want to put their 2 cents in before "the call" is made?
