Mike Brichta
I have a 72 monte with a th400 trans and console. I decided to take the car out today for a drive before the weather gets bad and when I pulled out of the driveway and drove down the road, the trans would not shift out of first gear. I have already checked the trans fluid, shifter and linkage. All looked and worked fine. I just had the car out a few weeks ago and it worked great. The trans was rebuild about 8 years ago and has less than 10,000 miles on it. Before I start to panic and tear the whole thing apart, does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem? Thanks, Mike
7tonemonte
I had a similar problem with my olds, turns out it was just my detent(kick down) cable pulled tight. Just a simple guess on my part. Try the simple stuff first. I unhooked it from the carb and pushed it in and out. I suppose I just got lucky but give it a shot!! Ian
Also make sure the wires for the electric "Kick down" are not shorted or disconnected. Ian

Mike Brichta
You guys are truly the greatest. I did some checking last night and it turned out to be a faulty kick-down switch. So I guess I will not have a kick down until I find another switch. THANKS!!!! Mike
