Paul Bell
I have one, it has no screw holes and is attached with nuts from behind. BUT it's broken. I have another, it has holes in it for screws to go through the face. The repro aftermarket offers them, WITH holes. Which is correct?? 72-CLASSIC_RIDE
All I have seen have the 2 screw holes for our cars. The other may be a 2nd Gen? Doug
Paul Bell
I've searched our forum here. I found both ways. The one without screws looks nicer. I'm gonna see if Leo has one for me. Hello Leo?? But which version is "correct"?
Canuck
Paul that is my photo you posted. That is the original one in my 70 Monte. The one in my 71 looks the same also.

stangeba
I purchased a used rust free door with the remote mirror, that has no screw holes in it. I was so lucky, first set of doors (R&L) the left was full of bondo, but it did have a black door panel, like mine, with a remote mirror. I stripped the door, found the bondo, took it back and got another better door. I kept the door panel and mirror from the first left door, that has the knob broken off, then got a good remote mirror on the second door that I still use today. KLASSIK1
The chrome plated version is for the chrome outside remote mirror , the brushed aluminum grained finish was used on all 71-72 montes that came with the painted bullet style mirror so they are both used on first gen montes ,depending on mirror Leo
KLASSIK1
sorry should of looked at pics as i stated above is true , however pauls pics show the chrome version , the one with drilled holes was drilled by someone not gm , to use as the bullet style and not factory correct hope i confused everyone Leo
stangeba
Leo, I was thinking the same thing that the holes were drilled after someone broke the studs. Bruce
Paul Bell
OK folks, from what I've learned from my research and from Leo: Smooth chrome plate with no screws showing is for the chrome mirror. Brushed plate with screws through the face is for the painted sport bullet mirror. I have the painted sport mirror but I like the smooth plate better so Leo's gonna send me one. Thanks everybody!
