jminor
The air breather has a snorkle and vacuum diaphragm. There is no hose on the heat stove passage and there is no spot for it on the exhaust manifold. Would this be a stock air breather for a Baltimore Maryland built car? Should there be a hot air shroud and hose?
wallaby
There should be a tin shroud that is connected around the exhaust manifold that has the other tube for the connecting hose. The tin piece is often missing. They vibrate and rattle and get pretty noisy as their attatching rivets get loose with age. But yea, it sounds as if you have the correct air cleaner assy.....If I remember right, the small block snorkel is round at the end and the big block snorkel is oval. RichG
There were 3 styles of air cleaners. Small block 2 and 4 barrels had a small round snut. 402's had a larger more oval snout and 454's had a wide oval snout. There are some photos in the galleries. ripleydale
I'm thinking I have all 3 as an example....
stangeba
I added a second snorkel back in 71 to my 350 4BBL air cleaner. Modified 350 4BBL air cleaner
jminor
Thanks for the info. Does anyone know where the vent filter coming from the air breather is supposed to go to?
ripleydale
The little vent filter goes into a 90 degree piece of pipe that goes into a hole in the valve cover. The other side of the PVC system goes from a vacuum port on the carb to a pcv valve in the other valve cover.
