Door & rear panels

In the near future, I'll be purchasing a full set of door and rear seat side panel covers.

Offered by everybody, I know PUI, Legendary and maybe one other maker is out there.

Which ones does Koniks offer?

Of you folks that have purchased any of these, can you comment on fit, finish and quality? Any problems?

Thanks!

I put PUI fully assembled ones in my 70 last year. They are OK. The details are not exact factory correct but they fit well. The door panels came with metal top rails but the rears are plastic top rails. On the rear panels the vinyl has become unglued from the top edge of the rail by the sail panels. I will have to pull them out and maybe staple the material to the rail.

I have heard Legendary panels are very nice.

I went to CARS inc for the door panels in my 70 as I needed the dark saddle color to match the rest of the interior.

I like CARS. They did my seat covers in the 80's.

How was the quality, fit & finish?

How was the quality, fit & finish?

The front panels fit good they added extra chrome to the panel which to me makes them stand out more. The rear panels has a ABS plastic panel vs the metal ones like the originals. But the fit is nice and they have held up well.

I called CARS Inc last November and they said they don't make door panels for our cars. The panels they sell are PUI. I have CARS Inc manufactured seat covers, and I had assumed they made the door panels. The PUI panels I've seen online lately for 70 don't have the extra chrome. They look just like the originals.

I just finished installing my Legendary door panels in our 70 today. The first set they sent me didn't fit. They took them back and I sent them my originals for patterns. The second set fit much better, but I still had to elongate some of the slots for the metal push pins. They were close, but not quite right to line up. The quality is very nice. They come with perforations on the back for making the holes for window cranks, etc., but I ignored them and laid out my own holes from the front, since they had trouble getting the pin slots correct. I didn't want to chance having the pw/pl switch holes incorrectly positioned.

That sounds just like my PUI panels.

I suspect that it depends on the colour. My sandalwood panels have chrome piping  that is not on the stock panels but I have seen black PUI ones that do not have this chrome.

The only PUI panels I've seen recently are black. When I ordered from Legendary they had new steel top rails for the front, but I had to send them my original rear top rails.

  • In 2007 or so ago I had issues with the PUI panels not having the proper contour to sit flush where the rear window channel is. I spoke with a guy named Randy at PUI, who paid to have my original panels shipped up there so PUI could assess the differences. Anyway, after having the panels for a few months they finally shipped panels which fit properly. I haven't dealt with PUI since, but based on that experience I would use them again. They were willing to work with me to correct their product line.

I used Legendary for my door panels. I did have to send them the metal for the quarter panels. They had new ones for the front door panels. The look fantastic and are a very good quality. The previous owner of my 72 had PUI seat covers and the seat cover under the back came apart. I had it repaired and lass than a year later they ripped in the same place. The guy who fixed the rip told me the quality was not great OK but not great. I talked to Leo about mu problem and he said he had never had any problems with PUI. Legendary can be somewhat slow but their quality is A-one in my opinion. I was lucky to have a spare set quarter trim panels so I could still drive my car while waiting. I also went with the bolsters on the front seat and what a difference that made in the ride and I also sit higher because of the new foam. I am very satisfied with all of my trim and upholstery for Legendary.
