  1. Aaron, do you remember who that was. I would like to find out where to get them. rob
  2. That would be Capri who lost her 71SS in that Garage/House fire. rob
  3. Just to add, A number of years ago one of our members came across a bunch of these and bought them all and supplied many of our members with replacements for their cars but I think he sold out of them a long time ago. rob
  4. Yes, On the top drivers side of the fan shroud you will notice a flat area with a hole in it. There was a strap, like a plastic zip tie, with an expandable bulb that slipped into that hole and that strap circled the hose and on the other end of the strap was an end that would slip into a hole in the bulb and when that end was inserted into the bulb it expanded the bulb in the hole and held it into place. Open the below link and look at the picute. It would look like this but the strap would be connected to both pieces. https://www.grainger.com/product/5NCD2?cm_mmc=PPC:+Google+PLA&s_kwcid=AL!2966!3!166589327917!!!g!82128375477!&ef_id=VocoYwAABFLIOkIP:20180210022254:s&kwid=productads-adid^166589327917-device^c-plaid^82128375477-sku^5NCD2-adType^PLA rob
  5. Use PB Blaster. Also, only use 6 point sockets/wrenches. Just a stupid question because I can't remember how I removed mine but I don't think the booster is mounted on studs but the bolts actually pass through the firewall and you have to have wrenches on the interior firewall and engine compartment firewall. If that is the case that bolts are not studs but in fact bolts you and they are rusted on you could just cut them off with a dremel tool. Last I heard, 409 was a cleaner, not a rust remover but I could be wrong. rob
  6. Wow, I could have sworn my 70 350 had a lower and upper rear bracket. I will have to look next time I am up at my car but that will need to wait for now because I am restricted to the house for right now with bronchitis and maybe pneumonia, waiting for the results of the chest xray. rob
  7. Years ago we tried to put together some comparisons about this. What we figured is some of the plants may have run out of the full halo (which includes the painted strip between the halo trim and the windshield trim) and the under fender extension trim. They would have run out at different times or not at all, like I said, mine is a very late production at the Baltimore Plant that had both of these things from the factory. So, as some of the plants ran out of product they may have switched over to the 71/72 style of halo trim. Also, keep in mind that each assembly plant would have had multiple assembly lines and some of the lines may run out sooner than others. I think this is one of those things that will continually pop up here on the site. rob
  8. Same thing with the full front Halo roof, mine also has that. Find out which plant it was built in rob
  9. I'm not sure about the 454 but the one you have described sounds like what I have on my total stock 70 350 rob
  10. Chrome trim on the bottom of the headlight fender extensions does NOT indicate an early production Monte. My 70 is a very late build (June of 1970) and it came with that trim. rib
  11. Kelly, I don't know if I have ever seen a battery with a side post and top post. As far as which battery that should be used would depend upon the engine. The big block engines would normally have had a heavy duty battery. The batteries are available from many sources. Many of the heavy duty batteries were side connections while the standard battery having top posts. My 70 350 is a regular top post battery. I am sure others will chime in here. Click this link for more information from here on the site: http://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/topic/8676-correct-battery-info-needed-for-1970/ rob
  12. There are several companies that sell the exhaust manifold paint. The paint I used was made by POR and the color didn't hold up very well. Since i did mine, I have heard Eastwood makes a good product. Pet key is proper prep to get it to adhear properly. rob
  13. Boy would that car look great on the Carlisle Showfield at the FGMCC Eastern Meet in June rob
  14. Paul, I don't know of any tool to do this with. I know it is hard to not only get the seats out but also very hard to get them in, especially for a tonage impaired person like me to fit between the front and rear seats. You have to move the front seat/seats as far forward as you can and use the front seat back as leverage to push with the palm of your hand or your foot and push it at the bottom spring wire brace to the back and downward to snap it into position. I can't tell you how many times I have bruised the heel of my hand trying to pound a seat bottom into place. rob
  15. Robert, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Of course I remember your dad and your mom, not only from the Eastern Meet but also visiting your and your family at your house in Virginia. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your entire family. I am sure he will always be at your side when you are out in the garage working on the cars because I know you two spent a lot of time out there together. You were very lucky to have had that bond and time together doing something you both had a passion for. Again our sympathy and prayers are with you. rob
  16. Russell, Welcome aboard the boards, we hope you like what you see here on the boards and decide to become a full fledged dues paying member. We would LOVE to see that beautiful low mileage Monte at the Eastern Meet in Carlisle, Pa in June. It is a great way to get to meet many members and see a lot of First Gen Monte's. It is a fun several days with some GREAT people. It would not be a very long trip for you and your Monte. rob
  17. Wow.... you were very lucky to snag that one..... Did he have any 70 Grills? rob
  18. Took the grandkids to the Pittsburgh World of Wheels today and walked their legs off checking out all of the cars. Unfortunately there were NO First Gen Monte's there. As a matter of fact the only Monte there was only one one Monte of any year there and it was in primer and due to so many parts missing from it I could not tell what year it was. There were a lot of Nova's and Chevelle's there but the absence of Monte's was very noticeable. rob
  19. My bad, I did notice he was saying he did not connect the heavy negative cable to the alternator and assumed he had connected it to another location. Yep, not connecting the end of the heavy cable but the small wire to the fender definitely would fry trying to carry that kind of a load. As long as you were ordering a new cable, why not order one with the wire attached. Here is a link to an original style negative cable with the snap type battery top mount connector with the small wire attached: https://www.luttyschevy.com/search.html#!year%3D1970%7C%7Cmake%3DCHEVROLET%7C%7Cmodel%3DCHEVELLE%7C%7Csq%3Dbattery%20cable They have them a Lutty's Chevy Parts or luttyschevy.com rob
  20. The negative battery cable should attach to the alternator upper bracket. The small wire coming from the negative terminal lead should attach to the fender (Mine is a 70 so I can not speak for the 71-72 on this small wire on the fender). The cause of the negative lead melting could be a couple things. The first thing that comes to mind would be a very high load (like the starter motor) having a direct short but if it the starter was shorted I don't think it would turn over. The second thing that comes to mind would be where it is connected to the car there is very high resistance from the connection being a poor connection. A poorly connected wire will create heat. Regarding the fuse-able link, that would be on the positive side, not the negative. If the small wire was not connected to the fender it would not cause this issue. When I got my car it did not even have this wire on the negative terminal. Without this wire connected to the fender it can cause flickering of the dash lights, interior lights, headlights etc. I hope some if this information helps. rob
  21. Looks great Paul, bet it will look even better on the show field in Carlisle. rob
  22. I took my wheels and tires to my tire guy. Last spring I bought new white stripe tires for my Monte. I drove it to Carlisle for my mini-meet and when I arrived someone commented on how bad they looked because the white stripes were BROWN. I sent my tire guy a picture of them and he agreed to replace them but due to my Surgery two days after I returned from Carlisle I was not able to address this till now. Can't wait to get her out for a Spring Car Ruise. rob
  23. So you come across a 70 NOS fender ad on ebay and don't post a link for it??. rob
