    Newb here

Open your hood. On the cowl on the drivers side will be the body tag. The body tag is on the horizontal area between the windshield and where the hood hinge attaches. On the right side of the tag you will see the paint PNT code. Use that paint code and then look at the chart below. The paint code will be either a pair of two digit numbers or a two digit number followed by a letter. If the car has no vinyl top both of the two digit numbers will be the same. If it is a two tone painted car it will have two different two digit numbers and if it has a vinyl roof it will have one set of two digit numbers followed by a letter designating the color of a vinyl roof. I hope this helps. rob 1970 Paint Codes Code Color 10 Classic White 14 Cortez Silver 17 Shadow Gray 19 Tuxedo black 25 Astro Blue 28 Fathom Blue 34 Misty Turquoise 45 Green Mist 48 Autumn Gold 50 Gobi Beige 55 Champagne Gold 58 Autumn Gold 63 Desert Sand 75 Cranberry Red 78 Black Cherry Codes Two Tone Colors 25-10 Astro Blue w/Classic White Top 25-28 Astro Blue w/Fathom Blue Top 28-25 Fathom Blue w/Astro Blue Top 34-10 Misty Turquoise w/Classic White Top 55-10 Champagne Gold w/Classic White Top 58-10 Autumn Gold w/Classic White Top 63-10 Desert Sand w/Classic White Top
  2. I know this is a very poor picture, in reality it is a picture of a picture. This is a picture of me with my original Desert Sand Monte Carlo. rob
  3. Dennis, What color is your 70SS. I know that is close to the Desert Sand but I am not sure since you didn't say I suspect it is not. rob
  4. My original 1970 Monte Carlo was painted Desert Sand (Paint Code 63) When I bought my car late in the 1970 model year I had my choice of three cars their Demo Monte, and two others. All three of these cars were identical and all three painted Desert Sand. In the 17 years I have been a member of this club I have never seen another 1970, unrestored or restored, painted in Desert Sand. I have seen Gobi Beige (Paint Code 50), Champagne Gold (Paint Code 55) and Autumn Gold (Paint Code 58). Is it possible the Desert Sand was a rare color for Monte Carlo's? Has anyone else ever seen a Desert Sand Monte? Green Mist Code 45 is another what seems to be a rare color. All of the other 70 colors I have seen frequently. That said...... First Generation Monte Carlo's look good in any color (almost). rob
  5. Congrats on a successful trouble shooting, repair AND refreshing job. rob
  6. Today I removed my tires. I took them to my local tire guy to have all of the tires removed from the Rally rims. Then I made the one hour drive north to drop the rims off at a shop to have them powder coated in Ardent Silver. Our president, Scott Stephens, recommended this place and the $200 they quoted me to do all 5 rims is a real bargain. It would have easily cost me that to have them sand blasted and painted. Most of the places I checked wanted at least $500 to have them powder coated. I then ordered my new tires. The powder coating should be done by Thursday or Friday and the tires should be in by then too so hopefully this weekend she will have new shoes....... and socks. As some of you know, I am going from the raised white letters to the 3/4 inch white walls. The shop who broke down the tires first looked at the 50% to 75% tread still left on the tires and asked why I was getting rid of them. I told him to look a little closer at the tires. When he did he fully understood. These tires are 16 years old and the rubber had become very stiff. I think if I would have tried to get another year out of them I would have been in danger of one of them blowing out, shredding and causing major damage or an accident. rob
  7. Dan, That looks amazing. Can't wait to see the finished product rob
  8. You can take a suitcase of money down there with you..... It will come back carrying some of the items you buy.rob
  9. You done good Rodney, on the price you got. rob
  10. The original clips on mine were the square ones and they were metal. The reproduction one I have came with round plastic clips. My 70 was made in June of 1970. rob
  11. Try Lutty's Chevy Parts at: http://www.luttyschevy.com rob
  12. My original that was 31 years old when I replaced it because of 31 years of grime but no sagging. My now 16 year old pad shows no sign of sagging. rob
  13. I have heard the same thing about the valve seats. The lead in the old gas coated the valve seats to help prevent valves from tapping. rob
  14. Jerry, welcome to the site. We hope you like what you see here and decide to become a full fledged dues paying member and join us at one of our meets. There will be a number of our members attending my Chevrolet Nationals meet in Carlisle Pa in June. Any dues paying member can join us for the festivities so you should jump across the border and join us for a great show. rob
  15. Just some clarification on this statement. All Monte's with Air Conditioning option had the dual front speakers and no center front speaker because with Air Conditioning the area where the center speaker would go is taken up with some of the air conditioning items under the dash pad, The above statement would be true of an AM radio with no air conditioning but an AM radio with AC would have the dual front side speakers. rob Oh Yeah, that is one nicely optioned Monte Carlo.
  16. I am pretty sure most of the parts suppliers get them from the same place. rob
  17. I got mine from Jim at Muscle Cars Only but I fear Jim has recently sold his business because I have been trying to reach him recently and the number goes to a local car dealership, same with his Web site. rob
  18. I have had my aftermarket bumper on the front of my Monte for at least 10 to 12 years and it looks as good today as it did the day I mounted it. I also had to drill holes to mount the bumper guards. That is one of those measure 20 times. place a mark with a sharpie, measure another 20 times to verify your sharpie marks, get the drill ad drill bits out and then measure another 20 times before you drill. I can tell you, on my front bumper I did not remove or even loosen the bumper brackets where they mount to the frame, I only removed the nuts and bolts that mount the bumper to the brackets go remove the old bumper. When I lifted the new bumper into position the bolts slipped right into the holes without any adjustment of the brackets. rob
  19. Looks great... keep posting pictures. rob
  20. Congrats on your purchase and finding what you wanted. Now all we need to do is get you signed up as a dues paying member. rob
  21. Dan, that looks great, even before sanding and buffing. The Chevelle in the background of the last picture looks jealous. rob
  22. Sorry to mislead. You are right.... Duck is one of the brand names, Ideal is another, GB (Gardner/Bender is another. Any Home Depot or Lowe's should carry it in their Electrical Department. rob
