Interior project snowballing.... questions about rusty floor
Rob Peters replied to Supaflytnt's topic in Interior Tech
I was basing my telly mostly from the first picture where it looked like an area rested all the way through above the circular hole. I could be wrong but then again, until you do a real good wire brushing and/or grinding of the rust, and doing a metal strength test by pushing or tapping on the metal you may not know. Good luck!!! -
Interior project snowballing.... questions about rusty floor

POR is great stuff but I see some pretty rough areas there so you may want to order new floor pans and replace them as needed. Even with the new ones you should use the POR product. rob -

CD2 Washer Monitor Float
Rob Peters replied to Mike Brichta's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
OK, now that most us who have said we would like one of these have sent in their payment I have some questions. 1) I had read ages ago that the Wash Reservoir is the same with or without the wash monitor but you would have to cut your own hole into the new reservoir. Does anyone know if this is true? Either that or does anyone know where a monitor bottle can be purchased? 2) How is the wash monitor assemblyed mount into the bottle? Also, how do you remove the monitor assembly from the bottle without damaging it? 3) Once the monitor assembly is removed, what do we remove from the monitor to replace the new part we are buying. In other words, how is the old part removed without damaging the rest of the monitor and when we install the new part, what holds it into the the existing monitor assembly. 4) Once the new part is installed onto the monitor assembly what holds the monitor assembly into the bottle. I have noticed in the past that the monitor portion of the system is loose in the bottle and I can spin it part of the way around in the bottle opening but I was always afraid to try to remove it for fear I would break something. rob -

The only people who would b that concerned about changing a cowl tag, in my opinion, would be someone who may be trying to pass a car off as something that it is not. If that is why someone would do it then in a sale they are misrepresenting the car to a potential buyer thus being dishonest. My body tag proves, to people who would doubt, that it is an original two tone painted car. If someone was to reproduce a Canadian SS tag they could pass a non SS car off as a SS car, again being dishonest. I am not trying to compare an SS car to a two-tone painted car, just pointing out there should be no reason for changing the cowl body tag. To tell you the truth, if I noticed a body tag had been changed I would think twice about buying that car because if the seller was would misrepresent the car with a fake body tag I would have to wonder how else he/she would be misrepresenting the car. The only time it would not bother me is if the car was already modified and I wished to further modify the car in which case a fake cowl body tag would mean nothing anyway. Just my thoughts on the matter rob

Larry, I am not going with Bias ply. The 225/70 15 is the perfect replacement size for the original size tires. rob

Mike, do you have any idea how much he may be asking for them? I have it on my car and maybe it would not hurt to have an extra one. rob -
Impressive, you are doing a great job of promoting it. rob

I have heard many times where a 72 only had one horn. I'm not saying all of them but it is my understanding many did only have one. rob

Mine are mounted on the hood latch assembly, one on each side of it rob

When removing the upper control arms be sure to use a spring compressor to relieve the pressure of the spring on the arms. The major danger in this job is of that spring being under so much pressure and flying out and injuring or killing someone. rob
-
If your dad is a mechanic a rebuild of the arms should not be an issue. When you say the old upper arms are bad and need replacing what do you mean. For the most part,, unless they are bad due to rust, the only thing other than the bushings and upper ball joints having wear there is little that can go bad on the original ones. The bushings and ball joints can be replaced, which is the least expensive way to do it. I did a write up for one of our newsletters on how to do a front end rebuild, after I did mine. rob

Dennis is correct, if the uppers are bad it is best to do the lowers. I also agree it is a good time to do a front end rebuild of front end including the springs, tie rods, stabilizer buswings, idler arm etc. If you don't and do it one piece and have to do multiple front alignments. It can be dangerous but if done properly, and carefully it can be done by most backyard mechanics. It makes a world of difference in the handling. I went with rebuilding my stock arms. rob

Without a build sheet the best way will be matching serial numbers on the block with the VIN. The thing most people will not do is the air ride system. Running all of the lines and finding all of the parts isn't impossible but most won't go through all of that. There are many real SS's out there without the air pump but they are still SS's. If you have not already studied the area here on the site on how to identify a true SS I would suggest you start there. rob -

Exactly!! Undocumented could mean "clone".... in other words, someone slapped badging on it and is calling it a SS. By having thai "undocumented" clearly stated would mean when the buyer finds out it isn't really aa true SS the buyer doesnt have a leg to stand on rob -
That's a great turnout for this early in the game Aaron. Good Work!!!! rob

Is this the one you are talking about.... I agree regarding the limited information. Personally I liked the other one you had appraised better. This one does say it is undocumented: https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1970-CHEVROLET-MONTE-CARLO-SS--200628 Now, Talk about UGLY....... At the same auction this 71 Torino Custom Display Car: https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1971-FORD-TORINO-CUSTOM-DISPLAY-CAR-200631 rob -

sounds like that same old tale of a wife saying.... "You need to try to sell that car" and the husband saying..."But honey, I tried but nobody wanted to pay near what it was worth." ? Never mind he was asking way too much. rob
