Car engine temps extremely high in stop and go traffic.
Rob Peters replied to Rock's topic in Engine Tech
I cant remember if you had checked to see if one of the radiator hoses is collapsing on the inside causing the flow to be restricted? rob -
Hi Abe, If you can hear the horn relay clicking it means the horn buttons is working. It does not necessarily mean the relay is good, it only means it the solenoid is pulling in but it may have dirty or bad contacts. Like Larry said, you can test the horn itself out easily by disconnecting the wire going to the horn and run a wire directly from the positive terminal of the battery to the contact blade where you removed the wire. Just a note, before you direct test the horn with an external wire be sure you make sure you check that is is well grounded. To do this, remove the bolt holding the horn on and clean up the threads and contact areas and then try it again. If the horn blows OK with the external wire then it would be the relay contacts being bad. rob

Swivel buckets, where they available before 73?

Tell him to come here and look at our posts and ask any questions. ERT and Aaron are correct. There is no telling what some people will do on their own or have a dealer do to satisfy their passions. rob -
What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Too Funny Bruce, regarding not having the camera crack. Loved it. rob -
I have seen the idle solenoid cause this. If it is not adjusted properly or is not dropping out when you shut off the engine it can cause this. It is easy to check the operation of this solenoid. With the key off, turn it on, then move the throttle off of the solenoid nut at the carburetor and when you do this it should allow the solenoid adjust nut to move to the extended position. Then release the throttle and allow it to rest against the adjustment bolt head with the key still in the on position. At this point have someone turn the key to the off position and the solenoid should release and bolt head should move inward causing the throttle to follow it to a position below the normal idle rpm and this starves the engine for gas. rob

Looks great..... almost ready for the Eastern Meet!!! Only 3 weeks to go. rob -
Sorry, I missed the part where you mentioned the part attached to the trunk lid. Now that I reread your post it looks like you may have wanted both. Rob

Here are four pictures from my unrestored 56,500 orig miles 70 out of the Baltimore plant. You may be able yo see that it looks like they have some over spray on the trunk splatter paint or there are areas where the splatter paint is worn off. I hope this helps

I agree....Some places will void a warranty if you don't use the product they recommend. rob

70 vinyl top early and late year
Rob Peters replied to Montebo1970's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
This comes up frequently. Bottom line is there is no data on when any factory switched from the "Full" halo trim to the halo trim which carried through the end of production of the FGMC in 1972. I don't know if it was a cost cutting mrasure so much as an indivivual just switching over as they ran out. This includes the trim at the bottom of the 70 headlight extensions. My Monte is a very late production car (Late June/early July 70) out of the Baltimore plant and it has both the headlight extension trim and the "full" halo. Just a note. The picture of your car posted above only shows the side on the halo trim which carried through all three years of the FGMC. The "Full" halo of the 1970 Monte also included a wrap of the trim all the way around the front of the roof with the body color painted surface showing all the way around the trim, including between the upper windshield trim and the Full halo trim as opposed to the final two years (71/72 and some 70's) where the halo trim ended at the upper windshield trim piece. if you see cars where the vinyl top runs all the way to the roof gutters that was not factory but may have been either dealer or non-dealer after market installed. rob -
I like the option of the Two-Tone paint job using the vinyl top trim to separate the colors. Mine is a Factory Two-Tone optioned car and it helps eliminate the vinyl rust trap but still have the contrasting colors. rob

Casting Call for My Monte
Rob Peters replied to Rob Peters's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
It went well. It was shot in a residential area. My car was a car parked along the street by the house they were shooting some scenes so it should be in some shots. They pay me $150.00, for the use of the car, for 12 hours or less. They finished up in 3 hours so for this shoot it was a quick $150. They will be shooting in Pittsburgh till December and said they will use my car again. Rob -
Casting Call for My Monte

First off Mark, it is great to see you posting again, we missed you here. The last film my car was in I could not believe how well these actors eat. We had lunch and dinner with the stars. I don't know how all of them aren't 300 pounds. They hire top chef's from the area to do the cooking for them. I just hope the weather holds for the shoot on Monday. rob -

Doug, In a case like this you have to look at the bright side. When you stop to think about all the really bad things that could have happened, when your bad things did happen I think you could say maybe it was not such a horrible day after all. When she fell off the jack/jack stand there are so many ways it could have damaged her and when the brakes failed..... well, I don't even want to go there but since she had a soft landing and all that was lost was some liquid soap bottles rather than the Monte then again, It was a better day than it could have been..... Does that make sense? rob -

Brought the Monte home tonight for its first bath of the season. She was pretty dirty from her winter nap and I needed to clean her up for a car show my grandson's scout pack is hosting this Sunday and this would be the only chance I would have to get her ready. She was smiling when I took her back to her garage. rob -
Casting Call for My Monte
Rob Peters replied to Rob Peters's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Tony, they shoot a lot of films in Pittsburgh. This is the third production for my Monte. The first one they drove past my car but you couldnt see it due to darkness and the second one hasn't been released yet. rob -
I got a phone call this evening that Netflix wants to use my Monte Carlo in an upcoming series called "Mindhunter". They want me and the car next Monday. The casting call will be weather permitting so I am praying for decent weather. rob

What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?
Rob Peters replied to Canuck's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Well, it wasn't my Monte but it was my Model A Ford. My Grandson's cub scout and their boy scout group are having a car cruise and steak cookout a week from this Sunday and I want to take both the Model A and the Monte. The Model A has had an overheating problem issue so I took it out and performed the first of two radiator and engine block a treatment and flush. I used a prestone flush treatment for the first flush. With the Model A we never use any kind of anti-freeze so it does accumulate a bit of rust and since the water pump uses a packing material and grease some of this grease tends to also build up in the cooling system. Does anyone have any recommendations on a safe radiator flush chemical I could use for my second flush of the system. I also need to find the time to clean up the Monte for the first time this year. rob -
