  1. Thanks for the help. I did not think recurving the dist had much to do with getting the car to idle, but as stated before I am no expert. The motor sounds "right" when running, just cant get it to idle down. Have not driven the car so I can't say if its under powered or not. I will check for vacuum leaks then I think I will drop another carb on it and see what that does.
  2. Thats what I thought Scott, but pulled and dropped a tooth either way and makes it worse.
  3. My son Liam has a 71SS Monte. This winter he took the engine out and in for a rebuild. Basically a stock rebuild, 30 over with 10:1 compression. The shop does not have a dyno so we got it fresh. Dropped it in the car, fired up nicely, did the 2000rpm break in for 20 minutes. The problem is that we can't get the idle down below 1200 with out it stalling. It runs best with timing at 30 BTDC. Rebuilt the qjet carb as well. Called the engine shop and they say we need to get the dist recurved. Does this sound right, almost appears as if the timing chain is out one cog. As we are not engine experts, any insite would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. They sure look nice Dennis. Thanks for the info
  5. Might Have one more from Alberta, will keep you posted Aaron
  6. Looks great Dave. I have only seen one other midnight Bronze Monte before, and it was just North of you Aaron.
  7. Just to let you know Sam, I have purchased a battery from the link Rod posted. Tom is the gentleman’s name over at Restoration Battery. A very nice and knowledgeable guy to deal with knows his batteries!!!! I ordered an R89 as per my build sheet. He did the proper date coding "burn" in the battery as well. These are dry cell batteries produced to look all-original. Not the cheapest but a great guy to deal with and the look is awesome.
  8. You can get the repo remote mirror to work with some messing around. #1 get a factory gasket from GM, the repo ones have the angle reversed. Now the stem angle will be correct but the glass housing angle will be wrong. You can take the mirror apart and using a Dremel tool or something similar, grind two of the 3 tabs off the inside of the stem. If I remember correctly it is the two outside tabs. The tab closest to the window will remain and stop the mirror housing from rotating on you. A real pain in *** but at least it can be done. Yes the factory mirrors can be taken apart. Again not a fun job!! Just pay real close attention to the colour codes on the three cables. You should have a Yellow, a Green and a clear marking, one on each of the cables and on the control. The cables are different lengths and go into the control in certain locations. I just drew a little diagram as I was taking the cables off. It really helped me out when putting back together
  9. Front and rear door panels are installed. Fit and finish was/is fantastic. (That last sentence will drive Rod crazy) It took around one hour per front door, which is amazing. The last Monte restoration I did, I used door panels from another supplier and they had the fibreglass top rails. Without a word of a lie, I spent 10 hours each installing the front door panels. Heat guns etc to soften fibreglass to get correct form. What a nightmare that was. One negative that I did have to point out with the Legendary panels. There are approximately four to five random areas around the buttons on each panel where the stitching is already coming out because when the buttons were installed they cut the stitching. I sat down with some good glue, toothpicks and glued the stitching back under the buttons. All in all, very good quality, fit and finishes. After purchasing “other” brand panels, I can say that Legendary will get my business for future projects.
  10. Rooms booked. Now to get registered!
  11. Jake, This is an NOS hood spear that I purchased from someone on the club. Although hard to read the part # is P-3987004 followed by the bowtie with some stamp in the middle which I cant make out and then the # 2. On the opposite side is #’s 9579 Hope this helps
  12. Don't want to pi$$ anyone off, but its a part for a one year only car. Only 1919 made and they are NOT high on the collector list of cars to buy. Try and buy a NOS grill!!!!!!!! I for one am glad that someone made repops years ago or the prices would be even higher or part not available at all. The market dictates the price. I do not think $400.00 is out of line.
  13. Mike, I am not sure about the lower trim as I never asked them. I am sure that if I sent them along with the rails they would have installed them on the panel, but I had a brain fart. They do not supply the metal rails. I had to mail them my old ones or they will sell you the panels without them and you install yourself.
  14. Murray, As Darren has said, you need to install your own chrome strip on the bottom. Carl, The buttons are very flat and close to the originals. The weight of the panels is the first thing I noticed when I took them out of the package. Nice weight and very sturdy for sure. When first ordering, I left a message for Mike Saless but it was Tony who phoned me back and who I ended up dealing with. I am happy I took your advice as well. One word of caution if ordering from Legendary. They will take a while to make your door panels so give yourself lots of time. Mine took almost 2 ½ months from time of placing order, but well worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!! Will post pictures once I get them installed.
  15. The door panels have arrived from Legendary. They look great and appear to be of great quality. I will let you know how they fit when I get around to the install. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  16. This is strange............. I have a 1970 built in Van Nuys but it is vin 200346. Car is on lift so I cant get at the cowl tag for build date. According to the POP it went into service on 7/9/70. So very late in the year. Is it possible that they started at 100000 built 99,000 cars then started at 200000?
  17. I was watching this post with anticipation.
  18. Looks great Dennis. Sure lights up the dash!!! I like the LED conversion
  19. I do not feel that $395.00 is not out of line.
