1972 MC 350/Auto - Roof, Sail Panel and Trunk Repair / Replace
Marks71 replied to B-Man's topic in Auto Body Repair
I would definitely use a thread sealant on the screws. -
To me, this is a pretty important topic. The more you know about it the better. It doesn’t really matter what your classic vehicle preference, the hobby aint cheap. As values increase, so does fraud. As they say, knowledge is power. Why not become more informed to help protect yourself from becoming a victim. I’m sure the hard core collectors hire someone to verify that 2 million dollar Hemi convertible or ZL1 or L88 Vette before purchasing. It’s really a shame to see someone lose their hard earned money to fraud, or find out that what they purchased is really worth less than half what they paid because it isn’t what it was promoted as being.

Welcome, lucky you, good looking Monte you have there. Thanks for joining. Hope to see more photos.

But officer, I was just doing a safety check to make sure I have the correct tire pressure.

A lot of cool stuff on that one. What really caught my eye was the W84 RPO code, additional fuel for delivery. Is that additional to the fuel that would be in the tank to get the cars from the line to the transporters or railroad cars? I’ll bet there’s someone in the club that knows. -
A PSA of .50 is certainly a great number Willie, because that’s a number that can’t be altered without some form of medical intervention, unlike others that can sometimes be changed by diet and exercise, which admittedly is easier said than done.

It looks like there was no prep on the back side. I’ve had stuff come back with some minor flaking but no rust. I’ve always sanded or wire wheeled then painted mine either satin black or silver because otherwise they will eventually rust back there anyway.
-
I always wondered why the lowers didn’t have the trim. They were clearly set up for it. Did GM reserve the lower trim for their more upscale lines (BOP)? Thanks for the info Joe, I think I’ll order a set from Ames, mine have lost some of their bling.
-
That’s the first time I’ve seen the end caps. Mine doesn’t have them, nor did the 71 I purchased back in 73. Were the caps metal or plastic?

Headlight extension lower trim piece?

That’s what’s so cool about this club. -
I think the stance looks fine. Won’t those new coils settle a little anyway?
-
I’ve had good luck with the Delcos also. They also seem to stay cleaner than a lot them. The other thing to consider is a battery disconnect and a trickle charger. I’ve definitely gotten more life out of mine by using them. Although 8 years is pretty darn good.

Sounds like Karen, as my wife Maria, really has our backs in this hobby. What more could one ask for?

Original Seat Fabric Patterns?
Marks71 replied to 1Bad454's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
SMS Auto Fabrics in Canby, OR. 503-263-3535. I sent them some small samples of the fabric, vinyl and headliner for my 64 Buick and the samples they sent back were an exact match. They are proud of their materials though. Info@smsautofabrics.com -
It retracts to the acc and not the on position? It has to go past off to get to acc. I had a 79 Firebird that when it retracted back to the on position it would die. That turned out to be a bad ignition switch. What made it a tough repair was that it took 3 switches to get a good one. I ended up bringing a continuity tester to the parts store on my 3rd try to get a good one.

Looked at it earlier, now it looks like it’s been pulled. Looked all there, and a great project if the rust isn’t too bad. Someone probably snapped it up. Maybe not for that price.

Classic Auto Air HVAC faceplate and controls retro mod

Major difference! That looks so much better, and you’re right no one will know what you did. You’ll have to send CAA a photo. -
So we’re all the 3 speed manuals column shifts?
-
Wow! It’s probably been 45 years, and never on a Monte.
-
So sorry to hear that Steve. It’s great you got it early. They’ll assign a score to each of the positive core samples to determine severity. If you google PCRI you can also get more helpful info regarding treatment. I didn’t spend too much time on the internet doing research because it could get too confusing. I was comfortable with that particular site though. The Q and A videos were informative. The treatment has improved greatly, just within the last few years. The radiation treatment is extremely accurate now. Keep us in the loop. Just had my PSA a week ago, same as the last one. 0.1. You got this! Mark

Just ordered an interior rear view from Summit yesterday. Will have it in a few days. Didn’t realize how diverse they were. Always thought of them as just a speed shop.

Welcome Leo, looks like you’re progressing nicely. You’ve come to the right place for any info you need on these cars. If you decide to join, it’s well worth the $25. Keep posting your progress. Mark

I never realized that roller lifters came that far out of the bore. Learned something.
