  1. It looks like there was no prep on the back side. I’ve had stuff come back with some minor flaking but no rust. I’ve always sanded or wire wheeled then painted mine either satin black or silver because otherwise they will eventually rust back there anyway.
  2. I always wondered why the lowers didn’t have the trim. They were clearly set up for it. Did GM reserve the lower trim for their more upscale lines (BOP)? Thanks for the info Joe, I think I’ll order a set from Ames, mine have lost some of their bling.
  3. That’s the first time I’ve seen the end caps. Mine doesn’t have them, nor did the 71 I purchased back in 73. Were the caps metal or plastic?
  4. I think the stance looks fine. Won’t those new coils settle a little anyway?
  5. I’ve had good luck with the Delcos also. They also seem to stay cleaner than a lot them. The other thing to consider is a battery disconnect and a trickle charger. I’ve definitely gotten more life out of mine by using them. Although 8 years is pretty darn good.

    Had to laugh

Sounds like Karen, as my wife Maria, really has our backs in this hobby. What more could one ask for?
  7. SMS Auto Fabrics in Canby, OR. 503-263-3535. I sent them some small samples of the fabric, vinyl and headliner for my 64 Buick and the samples they sent back were an exact match. They are proud of their materials though. Info@smsautofabrics.com
  8. It retracts to the acc and not the on position? It has to go past off to get to acc. I had a 79 Firebird that when it retracted back to the on position it would die. That turned out to be a bad ignition switch. What made it a tough repair was that it took 3 switches to get a good one. I ended up bringing a continuity tester to the parts store on my 3rd try to get a good one.
  9. Looked at it earlier, now it looks like it’s been pulled. Looked all there, and a great project if the rust isn’t too bad. Someone probably snapped it up. Maybe not for that price.
  10. Major difference! That looks so much better, and you’re right no one will know what you did. You’ll have to send CAA a photo.

So we’re all the 3 speed manuals column shifts?

Wow! It’s probably been 45 years, and never on a Monte.
  13. So sorry to hear that Steve. It’s great you got it early. They’ll assign a score to each of the positive core samples to determine severity. If you google PCRI you can also get more helpful info regarding treatment. I didn’t spend too much time on the internet doing research because it could get too confusing. I was comfortable with that particular site though. The Q and A videos were informative. The treatment has improved greatly, just within the last few years. The radiation treatment is extremely accurate now. Keep us in the loop. Just had my PSA a week ago, same as the last one. 0.1. You got this! Mark
  14. Just ordered an interior rear view from Summit yesterday. Will have it in a few days. Didn’t realize how diverse they were. Always thought of them as just a speed shop.

Welcome Leo, looks like you’re progressing nicely. You’ve come to the right place for any info you need on these cars. If you decide to join, it’s well worth the $25. Keep posting your progress. Mark

I never realized that roller lifters came that far out of the bore. Learned something.

    Kick panels

Were you still running a factory radio or aftermarket?
  18. Then there’s the poor owner of that nice crew cab that just happened to be in his way. If it’s not totaled then it’s going to have that Carfax blemish that will definitely hurt the value if it’s later sold. Foolish antics.
  19. It sounds to me like if you’re looking for something that both seals and bonds the channel to the quarter glass, then Willie’s suggestion of black silicone window sealant is the way to go. Bond it, let it cure then trim any excess with a razor blade.
  20. The Armour all was put on with a garden hose. The lower moldings are totally beat and held on with various types of screws. The missing tail panel trim, window crank and wheel well trim. I can understand the lack of trim on the wheel wells, because if you zoom in on the right quarter wheel well, there is no way you’re going to reshape the molding to fit. Hopefully it’s just a missing bump stop on the seat backs and they’re not bent. Definitely something thrown together to flip. Typical dealer antics. Whew!

The second of the 4 initial photos shows the ring.
  22. I’ve been waiting for my floor mats and 1 key blank that I went to their facility to purchase in September. They assured me that there would be no shipping charges, we’ll see. If these were urgent I would’ve cancelled. Never had problems prior to 2020, but this is my second issue now, so I think I’m done. Aarons Monte on the cover is the only reason I’m looking forward to the 24 catalog.
  23. Good to know, I’m thinking about doing the same.
  24. You’re right about that. Wonder how much is in the motor. It would have to be a lot to make up for no heat or AC, the loose fitting upholstery, and the 10 bolt.
