  1. Pretty sure I’m in the last body bushing holes at the back with no problems. I’ll take a picture for you tomorrow when it’s light.
  2. I’m starting to see how these build threads are a great record as a car evolves over the years. Nice that the posts are dated so I don’t have to remember.
  3. I did Comp Cams hydraulic roller valve train in my 454 and it makes a lot of noise. Sewing machine like. Eventually I got used to it. I believe it’s a common complaint
  4. Sounds like you’ve diagnosed your problem. Relay needs power and ground to operate. You proved power.
  5. Hard for me not to want to choose Penticton too. 10 hour drives beat 18 hour drives anytime. Love the area and we are treated so well by the show. Klamath does seem interesting and it could be within driving distance so if it lands there I would definitely consider it. Penticton would be a no brainer.
  6. If you have the matching VIN on your turbo 400 transmission, you can safely assume it was a big block, but could have been a 402 car as well as an SS.
  7. Are you using oil? A compression test would be a good place to start.
  8. I’d like to sort out the bottom of my car and get it painted before I hand it off for someone else to do the body and paint. Not a lot of rust but a few holes. The brace bit on the wheel well and then the little mess at the bottom of the fender. Cut it out, make little patches? For those of you with experience, what do you think?
  9. After I cleaned them up I noticed they have a date code, at least that’s what I think it is. Definitely lines up with a 1971 car. Numbers and date codes on brake drums. Who knew?
  10. Cool. Thanks boys. There was no problem getting them turned.
  11. Wondering if anyone would know if these are original? Kind of looks like a tag and part number GM would use.
  12. I can’t say exactly what’s going on in your scenario, but when I converted to a standard, I did have to find a new starter as you mentioned in point 2. I went to a local rebuild shop and he knew what I needed and pulled it off the shelf.
  13. Keep this up and you might just keep that car.

    Question

With the car off, look down the carb and move the throttle linkage. Do you see a big squirt of gas? I'm wondering about the accelerator pump in the rebuilt carb.
  15. Out of curiosity I contacted the original owner of my 71 SS and he said the car did not have the resonators.

    Question

Unless you moved or pulled the distributor, timing shouldn't change.
  17. Personally I'd stay with the stock trim, especially around the wheel wells. I think GM did a great job on the trim and it sets the Monte's off. I guess that could be option 3. Compared to the cost of paint, new trim (if required) seems like a no brainer.
  18. For anyone's reference, I had some good success heating the plastic clips with a heat gun, and they popped out pretty easy. The metal clips came out best when I broke off half of the clip and then sort of yanked it out. The ones furthest forward can be reached behind the plastic inner fender, and there is a nut on the top one.
  19. That's interesting. I believe the fan still works so it must have something to do with controlling the AC which I pulled from my car. Thanks Dan.
  20. Not in the cards to do a wire install but thanks for the generous offer. I'll probably just splice them back together a little nicer and ignore the connector. Might figure out what type of power it has before I tuck it up there. I may come back to this car again after I finish the SS.
