  1. What engine do you have in your Monte? With a high volume pump a higher capacity oil pan may be a good idea. Try to find a pan with windage control. There are some nice aluminum timing covers out there. they stay nicer than the china chrome.
  2. I think there are better things than RTV for thread sealant. I use this for intake bolts and head studs going into the water jacket. Thread sealant I have used this also I like the other one better. Another one NAPA has the first one
  3. I would have to see that. I find it hard to believe that there was enough load to break a cam without something really catastrophic happening in the engine. It would be a first for me and I have been around a lot of engines. I would like to see the engine turned over with a valve cover off and see only half of the valves moving. I would agree with timing gears, all the valves would not be moving. If the cam did actually break it would be nice to know the reason. And I would have the cam bearings replaced. So I guess the rebuild would be in order. Kind of hard to get at the cam bearings with the crank in place. Before I did anything I would insure that the cam is actually broken. Is this a trusted mechanic that you have used for years?
  4. Yep, pull the bolts one at a time and put sealant on them
  5. Dave, Intake .019 Exhaust .020 I set them cold at .015 and .016 and they were close.
  6. Wow this is an old post! I like Moog, a lot of Howe are racing parts and rebuildable, I think AFCO is the same.
  7. No EFI Pro Systems 1280 CFM Carb
  8. I was warming up the engine to adjust valves hot and decided to make a sound clip. Here is a link
  9. Thanks Daryl It is a 4.56 bore 4.25 stroke for 555 cubic inches. AFR 325 heads, CP 13 to 1 pistons, Callies crank, molnar 6.385 rods, Mike Jones roller cam, duration at .050 intake 281 exhaust 283 and lots of lift. Kind of lumpy! Pro Systems 1280 CFM Carb.

  11. Daryl, I wish i could tell you, I just looked around a rack of hoses at a parts store.
  12. Here is a link to the Holley page that gives all the part numbers and jets for the carb. Holley carbs
  13. That is light! I just weighed mine last week. I was surprised that it was only 3686, all steel though.
  14. Mine is probably overkill. It is one of their "Nitrous Ready" 3.5 inch shafts with chrome moly yokes and 1350 solid U joints. I think it was over 600 and they will replace it if I ever break a weld or twist the shaft.
  15. Never heard of them. Does not sound bad, but no power adders with the hypereutectic pistons.
  16. Denny's did mine, no complaints. Engine sounds great!
  17. 454s are great engines, but I like the stroker 489,496 that extra 1/4 arm really helps bottom end. As far as cost difference, Rods are usually resized possibly have rod bolts replaced. Crank may need to be turned and is probably cast. Forged pistons are the way to go. Just be aware that they are a little noisier on cold start until they warm up and grow to their running temp. I would find out the difference between a good rebuild on you 454 and the 496 and go from there.
  18. How does the fan fit in the shroud? Pictures would be good.
  19. Mine might get there in a trailer sometimes but she ain't no queen! Good to see you on Dave!
  20. You should not hot tank aluminum.
  21. Yep Sam ceramic coat the intake. I sold Steve L. my air gap that was ceramic coated. He was impressed. Had a 6 duce intake done for my buddies 30, and a few others. It holds up great and if you do some smoothing it looks even better. nothing will discolor it.
  22. Take it to someone that does header coating. never have to clean again!
