  1. Def hold off on the BnM thing. I lost my second trans on my 81 Bu last week after 6 drag strip passes. I generally build my own but this was originally a customer leave behind. Let's see what they do through Summit.
  2. Damn, Rod, that's going to look hot. Can't wait to see it done, but on the other hand, I had zero grey hair when you started this struggle and now I look like Santa Claus. Git er done...
  3. Larry, what are the licensing requirements of this part? I have one on my 71 and a new in the bag repop on the shelf. It doesn't look like rocket science to make a mold and hand it over to an injection molding company.
  4. You failed to mention what rear shocks you are running? Drag Radials will help on the street and fix it at the track but running in the rain can be challenging. A tight stock suspension is all you need and again, life is about imformation. What convertor are you running? I suspect there is nothing wrong with you or the car besides that poop eating grin you get when you hit the loud pedal. Kudos kid, you did good!
  5. I hear a pop in my carb, I have the valve covers off before I post anything. My 496 in my 71 did this two months ago. Wiped the cam. After over a hundred track passes and 7500 street miles in three years. Remember, a NO answer is just as good as a yes answer when dignosing any issue. And if you are going to arbitrarily replace stuff, can I have the old stuff?
  6. Mike, the only thing I have for you is only a GM dealership can warranty a GMPP engine. Good luck. Never known a dealer not to back up an engine unless you seriously screwed it up, which I highly doubt.
  7. Austin, my wifes 2012 Camaro SS weighs 4200+
  8. Yup, that's the straub can car. Had some fuel pressure issues last time out but behind us now. The 12 SS went 14.0@101. BORING, but I did get to ctitique two of Mikes runs and I got his times before he did. Very hard to do if you know what I mean. And I pushed the Camaro on the scales, it does indeed weigh 4210 pounds.
  9. dammit, are they worth more if I never drank?
  10. Mike, you know pony cars are for women. Wifes dailys the SS Camaro. But had THE single coolest experience yesterday on Okeechobee out west by us. Needed to get Uglyboo out the garage to get the 90 454SS in the garage so Hooby agreed to follow Uglyboo to the shop, in the SS. Wasn't that late but we caught four lights. Baywinds, Grande, Benoist Farms, and lastly Skees. Guess what? Uglyboo is much faster than the SS. I could only leave it in drive. Actually, I was taking it to the shop to throw a new Quarter Stick at Uglyboo and could not see my butt jacking the car up in the garage when I have four lifts at the shop. Snapped the stock shifter cable putting the stroker back in a couple of weeks ago. I gave her race four, intentionally smoked the Mikeys for her, and she gave me a, well, you know, in exchange for that. Yes, a kiss! So, Hunny Bunny needs a supercharger. I figure a kidney on the black market has to be worth at least the $7k cost of admission for a decent E Tec blower at 8 pounds. The Camaro is a trip, and of the 1600 miles on it so far, I guess 75 of those are mine. Gots to keep my hotty thinking shes a hotty, makes me very happy. But I did remove her license plate frame I took off the Impala SS. You know, the one that read "If you are going to ride my [censored] like that, at least pull my hair". Now she got chrome skulls. So, Mike in Boca, you going tp run that Money Carlo of yours with my other bud, Mike from Boca (70 Z28)? Come on man, run the darn car. Damn the heat, damn the rain.
  11. Cool, Mikey. Hard to get sarcasm over the intranets without sounding like a well, you know.. All I really did was get the crank checked, lost the dish pistons for Mahle .280 domes which got me 10.65:1 compression with an .045 VR head gasket. Destroyed the flat tappet cam that ONLY had 102 passes on it for a nice .599 lift HR. The best part was buttoning up the build only to realize I had the wrong pushrods. I ordered a set from Murrays thinking they would be quickest only to realize I had a set out of a ZZ502 I parted earlier this year. Perfect fit, on to the races. Except it is supposed to rain all day so Mr Monte has to take a pass and I still haven't been able to put a baseline on the 2012 Camaro SS. And I got a helluve parts collection to go on that one. I also got Uglyboo ready to rock as well. Turns out my new short block stroker was little more than an itchy sweater. Cracked all the way down the main saddles. Never give a "freind" $3100 for anything, esp a performance engine.
  12. Mike, same engine that has been there for four years. Just reenvisioned if you will. But unlike some people I know, I drove this thing in Monday morning and had it out by 11am. Dissassembled and at the machine shop by 3. Took Tuesday off with a stomach flu and picked up the block, crank, and rods/pistons this morning. Had it built by 1 and I drove it at 4pm. Was heading to the track but it turns out that PBIR (Mike, it is race track out west) is only running two Weds a month for the summer. Get to play Friday night with the GoPro my girlks got me for dads day. Not a GS spoiler, something I bought off eBay back in 08 when I built the car.
  13. Not going to say exactly what I did, but lets just say it is now a roller, has some compression, and hopefully will do better than 12.0 next time out...
  14. I wonder if it is just the baffling that takes up the extra 3 gallon or is a tank out of something else that is proven to bolt up?
  15. Good lord the price of those things have come down. That right there was $1000 anywhere you looked and the custom welded tanks were twice that. Def makes injection that much easier.
  16. Installing new pinion bearings will put you right back to square one. What you are most likely dealing with is just production tolerances.
  17. I love the Chevelle guys at TeamChevelle. In the last year I have bought 16 sets of shock shields for literally no more than $50 a set shipped. Remember, Chevelle = Poor Mans Monte.
  18. Def got to bring that pinion towards the back around .030 or so.
  19. That block should easily go .100 over. You should be good.
  20. That sucks. Replacing fuse links although certainly doable, is a PITA. Best bet is remove the starter and replace them all when you are down there and remember the new ones will not be "trained" so watch your clearance on anything metal they can wear on and short to. And always remeber, red is positive.lol.
  21. Too funny on those resonators. I priced them out Friday from my exhaust supplier from 2-3.5 inch and they run $12-16 each. Up to $24 in stainless. They are just baby glass packs. I sell quite a few as replacements when my showbirds drive down in October.
  22. Stock stuff I always hit with 1/2 turn. Morels and Bullits rollers need a full turn. Lunati, Crower, and Crane are all over the place depending on application. The biggest thing past noise is that if you get a rocker too tight, you have a change that after a good beat down, the valecan hang open for a few minutes and you could lose that cylinder. Then the is piston to valve clearance issues on high compression motors or mismatched pistons and heads.
  23. When they appear to collapse minutes after adjustment it is the lifter bleeding down as the plunger releases pressure. Perfectly normal. Now, if you notice a smelly discharge when you........yeah, nevermind.
  24. The truly sad part of that interior is yes, it is my LS powered Malibu. Yes it is full of dead Alligator. And yes, it has a DVD screen in the deck that works. Been watching Kung Fu Panda and driving for weeks now.
  25. Think PIMP!!! I dare you to click it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZwhNFOn4ik
