  1. Yes I know but he said he was going to do some other seals while there so I said it just as a precaution.
  2. Be careful if you drop the valve body down theres little balls in there and they can and will roll away on you and thats not good, They have to be there in the proper place. I wouldnt suggest that unless you have to.
  3. Some used an o ring seal and some had a seal that sliped into the case and the cable housing sliped into it but the rtv will work too. Might as well change the screen or at least clean it while you have the pan down if it hasent been done lately.
  4. Love that photo had a 71 caprice classic back in the day wish I still had it to go with my 71 monte. Well at least I still have the orig 400 sb and trans out of it.
  5. Looks great Dave but I dont think your going to fool anyone with the 307 sticker
  6. I need to do my dash also but cant swing it this year with doing the interior but may be able to swing the cap. opg has it for about a hundred bucks and I have the gift certifacate I got in norwalk last summer so it would only be 75 plus shipping. Its worth a thought even if only a one or two year thing.
  7. I saw a couple on ebay the other night and a nice chrome one too. Hows the project coming along Marc any good news yet? did he get the cam in yet?
  8. Yes you do have to be very carefull putting the cam in as to not damage the bearings but when I went through the chevy engine assembly plant in 1972 while in gm school the guy on the assembly line would tap them in with a hammer if they didnt slide in easly that was kinda scary. Well at least mine was built in 71 maybe that guy wasnt there then.
  9. yea tim i have 6 volts there. What its doing is reading 1/4 tank when full and moves down from there with the old one it was stuck on 1/2 all the time. Ya know what a light just lit up in my head from an eariler post about bending the arm that may be it now i want to kick myself for filling it before winter. well now I guess I have a spring project after the winter projects are over, Thanks guys for helping with that it opened my eyes, Steve
  10. Well I never checked the orig one but tested all after that and all read within the correct range except the one i ran direct voltage from the batt 12 volts and burned that one out (oops) but they replaced it ive learned to live with it for now untill i get ambuisous again and track it down now im off to fight the snow but thats not to bad today we only got another foot over night to raise out dec total to almost 70 inches
  11. Im pretty close on the mpg now but while all this was going on I was doing other work also carb and manifold cheange out and pertronix ignition so ut was hard to do for a bit but ive got it close now 12 or 13 in the city depending how I drive it around 15 on the highway wohoo
  12. Yes triple checked the ground not only checked I took it apart and cleaned it 3 times I have checked everything at least 3 times
  13. Yes thats what I did and thats what it did went all the way to full when grounded and empty when just disconected thought I had a defective tank unit so I got a new one under there warrenty twice then ordered one from opg a factory duplicate still did the same thing the ground is good and connections are good and clean it was driving me nuts so I said the heck with it for now ill play wit it another time
  14. I have a 60101 cam and lifter kit sitting waiting to be put in I bought it for $75.00 last year from advanced someone ordered it and never picked it up so they wholesaled it to me good deal I had to grab it ill get it in there sometime
  15. My gauge dosent work so i keep track of the milage I have changed the tank unit 4 times because all the testing said tank unit but I guess its the gauge in the car im going to try an aftermarket gauge first before pulling the dash apart thats a scary place in there 40 year old wires and an aftermarket radio/cd player god only knows what that looks like. Steve
  16. Yea I hear ya on the cold Rod today we got up in the low 20s and another foot or so of snow, brings our three day count for snow to just below 3 feet and the good news there only calling for another 7 to 10 inches tonight. Spent 15 hours plowing the stuff today and more tomorrow HO HO HO HUMBUG. I didnt take monte out ha ha
  17. Dont know if anyone has used the remflex gaskets there nice and thick and crush real nicly i got a sample at a show and im sold on them remflex.com if anyone has herd any different let me know thanks, Steve
  18. My 71 did and the ones that came with the aftermarket door handles really didnt fit to good I have to trim them down if I ever get up the nerve to do it.
  19. How hard were them patch panels to put on really, the picture looks real good but im no body man and also hate body work. I have learned a new respect for body guys while doing the body work and painting mine. If and when I do it over I will eather have to replace the fenders or put the patch panels.
  20. I aggree pull that one plug out and look at it to see if its fouled again. You could try one of those non foulers there a temp fix but it sounds like you may have a bad oil ring. Just a thought
