  1. Just installed a DIHARD from ADVANCE Auto Parts cost, including TAX, was $201.65. 3 Year warranty Thanks!
  2. My battery is dead, I charged it and it started then several weeks later it is dead again. I have a SEARS DIEHARD GOLD GP 78 that is almost 8 years old, but there aren't any SEARS stores in my area. Suggestions? I don't want to spend a ton to have an original DELCO battery. Black is nice, not red or yellow....... Suggestions???
  3. These are from a 72 Monte in highly sought after green cloth!! 🤣
  4. Finished eating all we bought from our Granddaughter, now I weigh more than ever ☹️
  5. Best pic I have. On my 71, I swapped out my fixed column for a tilt column years ago. I love the tilt vs fixed. My 71 is all stock for the ignition, dist and coil.

I remember driving a 3 speed on the column, first gen Monte to the parking lot when I worked for Russ Milne Ford in the 70's. I never saw it again, I wish I had looked at it some. How many in the club are there?

Welcome Leo! Looking good!! I see the picture of the rear axle and the missing gas tank. I wanted to mention how on my 71 350 4bbl when I replaced all the original small fuel / vapor lines at the fuel tank one had a very small blue plastic restrictor (INSIDE THE HOSE) that I almost threw out! Here is a picture. If you have removed all the original emission stuff, it may not matter at all but I wanted to share my experience. Enjoy!
  8. Remove all the light bulb sockets "twist", then remove the screws that hold the printed circuit to the steel IP base. The circuit board should come off then replace it with the new one, carefully replace the bulbs and screws. I don't remember any problems with mine. I DO remember the tiny fragile shift indicator cable that I almost broke several times. Years ago I swapped my stock IP in my 71 for one with a tach and gauges. That was a big job for me! Here are pictures I hope they help. I remember the small nut would NOT loosen up so I held the end tight with small vise grip pliers so I didn't break it off! The clock had a small piece of tape the I replaced to keep it from shorting out when it touched the circuit board! I don't think the headlight switch had to be removed. (off topic but...) I remember reading that some replacement H/L switch's don't have the correct number of terminals and will cause problems. 7 are required on my 71 Monte.
  9. Dennis, thanks but at this point I have decided to leave it stock and (almost) as it was when I ordered it. My wife and I drive it about 1,000 miles each summer on nice days and the Woodward Dream Cruise.
  10. My daughter just sent me this link about Monte Carlos. I haven't read it all yet. I hope you all enjoy it. https://www.motortrend.com/features/history-of-chevrolet-monte-carlo/#amp_tf=From %1%24s&aoh=17086360144883&csi=0&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.motortrend.com%2Ffeatures%2Fhistory-of-chevrolet-monte-carlo%2F
  11. I believe I saw something about how the A/C version does NOT have fresh outside air for the 2 L&R dash vent in the dash or floor vents. I remember I have the steel plates that fill this hole one each side. I remember now why I never converted my NON A/C to A/C all those years ago, TOO MUCH WORK! The picture on the bottom is after I removed the KICK panel to replace the chrome vent cables. The chrome was not the best but after about 3 years all 4 cables plastic part BROKE and now don't work. I think I kept the original ones!!
  12. If this helps any: Left NO A/C, Right With A/C
  13. I just did a search and found this: https://www.luttyschevy.com/i-20829331-firewall-ac-delete-cover.html
  14. I am looking for a picture of the first generation Monte firewall and how different it is with vs without A/C. All I have so far is my 71, NO A/C firewall, from the inside and outside, when I replaced the heater core that was leaking. I think I remember it being online, still looking.
  15. All I know about the Pertronix system is NOT to use old old school solid copper spark plug wires. My nephew had his changed during a restoration (1963 Triumph TR-3B) and they didn't replace the old spark plug wires. The Pertronix failed two times. Now with resistor type wires, all is well. There is a company that converted our stock distributor to a more modern GM HEI type system, without the giant dist cap. https://www.davessmallbodyheis.com/
  16. This is perfect!!! Congratulations! You will remember this all your life. Get several copies.
  17. Best thing is to start and drive you car each and every day! 🤣
  18. On my 71 Monte 350 Qudrajet 4bbl, if I haven't started the engine for a week or more I have to crank and crank and crank for a very long time to refill the float bowl. Once the float bowl is filled, it starts just fine. If I start it every day, the engine starts just fine. I have heard that this issue is a perfect reason to instal an electric fuel pump. You turn on the key, wait till the electric pump stops, then push the gas pedal down, release and start the engine.
  19. Check this out: At about 16 Minutes into the view. This is a newer choke than from 71 era but should help you see what is hapening.
  20. When you "pump" the gas pedal, just prior to starting the engine, the Choke should close, if it's a cold engine. The choke activates the High Speed Idle allowing the engine to keep running with the choke closed or partially closed till it warms up a bit. Hitting the gas pedal with your foot quickly will (should) cause the idle to drop to the next lower level and will lower it again when you hit the pedal again or start to drive the car. Here is a picture of my 71 350 Qudrajet 4 barrel carb. See the choke blade at the top front of the carb. It is slightly closed but will close all the way if cold and when you hit the gas pedal.
  21. On my 71 Monte, I've had slight leakage under my trans area for some time now but over LAST winter it got worse. Mine looks like it's from the left (drivers) side of the THM350 either the speedo or shifter area. Last spring I added some trans fluid drove it about 1,000 miles over the summer and the problem was back to a very slight leakage on the cardboard I always keep under the car. When spring comes, I'll check it out again. I'm sure it repaired itself! 😆
  22. Found these pictures years ago if they help. I was going to do it to my 71, I have 71 or 72 cloth green buckets in the basement but changed my mind, too much work for me.
  23. (LONG STORY, sorry) Sidebar on car insurance: My wife's 73 Cougar was getting older and we just got married so I was trying to save some money. I pulled everything off of her Cougar and my Monte, that was not required by law. Not that long after I did this, she was sideswiped so we had to pay for the repairs. I saved a few $$ on the repair by not replacing the "pin stripe" (it was a triple!) where the 1/4 panel was repaired. Time went by, it's the 27th Sept 1979, we now have a new 78 T-Bird, the monte was stored in a garage. We just bought a home and our first child was on the way when someone stole the Cougar from my wife's work parking lot!!!!!!!!!! We never found it. I did just ask about it on "LOST MUSCLE CARS" BUT NO LUCK. I did get to take a loss, when we filed our income tax that year. I will never remove any part of any car insurance ever again!!!
  24. J. C. Taylor for many many years.
  25. I should (we all should) add a sticker to the top of the master cylinder as to what DOT brake fluid I am using. I think it's 5.
