  1. Cool! Everyone should check this on their vehicle (including me) Bet it doesn't help the fuel economy. ha ha
  2. Here is a link that may help with the secondary lock out feature. Lock Out
  3. Make sure the Carb is actually opening all the way or getting "Wide Open Throttle". There could be a problem with the cable or peddle or too thick of carpet on the floor or a thick floor mat or bent linkage. With help from someone else, with the engine OFF, push the peddle to the floor and hold it there while you see if, in fact, the lower mechanical part of the secondaries are fully open, by using your hand to try to open it further. The top flap won't open so don't be concerned about that. Now that I wrote this, I want to go check my WOT to see how my new carpet may have affected it. To the rest of you reading this, have you checked your W.O.T. lately? Bruce
  4. You know it's not opening because......... low power or you can't see it open when revved up or??? I still assume you are talking about the top (vacuum operated) plate not the (mechanical) bottom. Many re builder's do a very poor job of rebuilding carbs. Just because it's a fresh re-build doesn't make it good. Bruce
  5. You know it's not opening because .... I assume you are talking about the top (vacuum operated) plate not the (mechanical)bottom. I first thought the same thing, the choke / secondary "LOCK OUT" was holding them closed. This happens when the choke is even slightly closed. What about the vacuum brake / dash pot on the passenger side of the front of the carb, does the linkage attached to it allow for free travel? Any binding or sticking in the top secondary plate? Bruce
  6. I just checked my speed and got: 11.45 Mbps download and 1.06 Mbps upload speed. I read the Upper case M is different than the lower case m for amount of data (Mega v.s micro? something) Is that any good? Do I need a better 4 BBL carburetor or something?
  7. Start of the GM NEXT 100 GM cruise North on Woodward from Downtown Detroit to Birmingham for the Woodward cruise.
  8. Just the one black 71. Just saw this question Jan 2 2011, sorry.

    Tires

Thanks to Capri, I also have the same tires. I did have the big block letters shaved off at DIAMOND BACK. They can make you any size WW on just about any tire you want. Bruce

    help

Not being a computer tech, this reminds me of when my brothers Dell needed a new power supply. Easy fix but he had to use the DELL power supply because they do something to the wiring to force you to use their replacement parts. This was 4+ years ago. Good luck and how good is your back up? Bruce
  11. Jim, Thanks for the info! Anyone in the market for a 73 Buick Radio? Bruce
  12. Data from my 71 radio, if your interested: Product No. 7933261 Service Model No. 11AFM1 Serial No. 1005632 Now, what's this one from???? Product No. 7935024 Service Model No. 34AFM1 Serial No. 1011663 I was told it's from either a 73 Buick Regal or a 72 Olds 88. My father in-law said it was a take out from his old car but didn't remember what one. (He wanted an 8 track player!) Bruce
  13. On my 71 350 4BBL, there is a small vacuum hose that attaches to the passenger side of the carburetor as shown in these pictures. This hose then goes to the temperature sensing mechanism inside the air cleaner, that allows vacuum to flow when the incoming air temperature is below ? (don't remember~ 115 F.?) A hose coming out of that sensor then goes to the vacuum diaphragm on the snorkel of the air cleaner, and activates a door that diverts warmed air from the exhaust manifold heat shield / stove pipe. (See pictures) Note that I added an extra snorkel back in 1971 for more air flow. 71 350 4 BBL air cleaner pics
  14. What do you have now? I went with a right chrome to match the left OEM chrome remote. Adding a right chrome mirror Right chrome mirror Both mirrors
  15. Like I posted above, mine (71 350 4BBL 350 THM) came off years ago and it runs great. It was a way to meet emission standards by leaving the vacuum advance basically plugged till it shifted into third or on a 4 speed, 4th gear. Leaving it hooked up, may hurt power and economy some. How much, I don't know? Many of our 40 year old cars have been modified and repaired so much, I wonder if any work correctly. Paul, I turned 4 in 1957. Bruce
  16. Good information. I think my TCS system came off on May 16th 1971. I remember some people complaining their vehicle took too much braking effort to slow down at highway speeds. I assume that's because the speed on the TCS was improperly adjusted higher than spec. The TCS system also energizes in reverse to allow you to properly adjust the "coast" idle speed. Good times! Bruce
  17. My 71 had them and the ones I bought to replace them 20+ years ago didn't fit worth a darn. Bruce
  18. My 71 came with Power Beam written in a circle, like this picture. Pic of power beam headlight
  19. "My second issue is that the TH400 trans with floor shifter never would stay in first to race. it shifts on its own to second sometimes." 70monterrs That's the way Chevrolet designed the THM400, to shift into second gear, at a higher RPM, (how much higher I don't know) even when it is locked in first, floor shift or column, doesn't matter. The THM350 is NOT built to do this so don't try it! Bruce
  20. That is so cool that you were there and able to participate. Great job! Bruce
  21. Mine too but on a black car it's very hard to tell. Bruce
  22. Great write up Tim. At the last step "light cleaning" is a good time to blast the daylights out of them then powder coat or paint them. I remember doing mine over 20 years ago now and it's something I would rather never do again. Bruce
  23. Sounds good! My (8 year old DELL) crashed after we had a power failure several weeks ago. I reloaded everything and it was doing fine but now I'm starting to get several error messages, on start up, about files being corrupt. It is running all the items I use fine. I wonder if my hard drive is starting to fail! Bruce
