    exhaust diameter

Found this info about a Chevelle The 1970 -72 Chevelle Model year dual exhaust systems consisted of 2 1/2" head pipes and 2" tail pipes. The small blocks accomplished this by reducing the head pipes down to 2" at the manifolds. Both the big blocks and the small blocks had 2" tail pipes with resonators but each resonator was quite different. The small blocks had a 2" tip with an angle cut in it. All of the big block cars from 1970 -1972 had a dome shaped resonator which ended at 2 1/2" allowing for the chrome tip. Our reproducion exhaust kit comes 14 ga aluminized with correct 2 1/2" head pipes with wrinkles and flats, correct extensions, donuts, flanges, mufflers, 2" tail pipes with correct resonators welded on, correct GM style clamps, installation instructions, diagrams and sealant. Our exclusive reproducion hangers are available with this system, as well as correct GM heat riser and stainless steel stud kit with correct lock nuts. Ask about our concours show pkg. for those who like it just a little bit better than original. Here: Gardner Exhaust I would love to have one of their systems on my small block. Bruce
  2. I added more pictures today of my 71. Bruce Spare Tire and Bumper Jack pictures June 2 2010
  3. No photos but the jack assembly is located in a raised area on the passenger side of the trunk with a "welded in place" 2 or 3 sided stop. The actual jacking part is at one end and the UP / DOWN selector is set to UP. A 2" wide rubber band secures the lug wrench to the jack assembly. The foot or base to the jack is used "up side down" as a hold down going through the up side down wheel and tire. A J hook goes through it's own special spot welded to the floor about mid way topped off by a large wing nut. After all of this, it may have been faster to tear mine apart and take pictures but it's raining. Bruce Bumper Jack pictures 71 Monte Carlo
  4. I did what Jim said above but I used thin cloth, like a t-shirt, wet with solvent pulled tight on a piece of wood. Ran the cloth over the high points removing the paint only on the high points. Bruce
  5. I was told if you can feel it with your fingernail, it's too deep to buff out.
  6. My 71 has one like the picture above, that is part of the TCS system, but I only see 2 spade lugs on mine. Could be different 71 vs 72 if your trans is even still a 72 trans. (The car is over 37 years old and could have been changed) My TCS system was removed in May of 1971 to allow ported vacuum advance in any gear at any time or temperature. The connector end of the wire I believe was connected to my trans switch broke off, so I can't say any more than there is only one wire. Are you are trying to make it just like it was from the factory? Bruce
  7. Check for a hole or crack in the converter. That's where my leak was albeit a TH350. Good Luck, Bruce
  8. What year? Right (passenger) side of the engine or firewall?
  9. I just went and looked at my 71 built in Canada. It has 145,000 miles but no red anymore. I don't remember one way or another if they ever had it. :-( Bruce
  10. I've replaced the under hood insulation twice over the years. The first time it came in a huge box like 12" x 12" x 50 and was just like OEM. The last one I bought fit into a large envelope. I'm kidding, but the box was very small and the insulation is much thinner. Bruce
  11. At this point I'm not going to spend any money on it. If my worst problem is not seeing a few You Tube videos, I can live with that I guess. Thanks for all the help everyone. Bruce
  12. Processor Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.26GHz Processor Speed 2.21 GHz Memory (RAM) 1024 MB Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional Operating System Version 5.1.2600 11.14 Mb/s Down load speed (Comcast cable) 0.96 Mb/s Up Load speed Running Google Chrome because MS IE7 is slower and also won't play the same You Tube videos. Defrag and all that stuff just done. Almost never crashes. Thanks, Bruce
  13. Great input, thanks! I was kind of assuming the anti virus software MAY be my problem but what other settings or problems could I look for, that prevent only SOME You-Tube movies from playing? Sometimes they also stop and I have to wait for it to catch up. My DELL PC is eight years old, perhaps it's time for a new faster one?
  14. I've been having trouble getting many different You-tube videos to play. I'm running XP SP2 or 3 and Google's CHROME browser. I get a link in an E-mail, click on it and it just keeps spinning. Just changed from Comcast free McAfee to Comcast free Norton but still (at times) no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks, Bruce
  15. Welcome! That car sounds great! 71 is the best year of the three and a 71 SS with there only being 1919 made. Can't wait to see some pictures. So you will be the second owner, that's so cool to know the history of your car. Bruce
  16. That was some kind of very rare vette, a Grand Sport if I remember correctly. That was many years ago. Bruce
  17. I found this nice write up to replace bench with buckets and add a console for a 70 Buick. Swap out bench for buckets and console (70 Buick)
  18. That post is two years old, how did you find it?
  19. Dave, I would also like to see a non blower rally wheel version, black is good. Thanks, Bruce
  20. That's the thing about old cars and car parts. Keeps you on your toes. I wonder how many people think they have a 350 SBC when it actually a 305?
  21. Thanks for the tip. Yes I could do that, the bolts were that way from the factory so I just replaced them the same way.
  22. What's your goal, racing, everyday driver?
  23. I have two bolts through the frame on each side of the rear trans cross member. I know because they are too long and protrude down about 3/4" below the frame and I got hooked on one crawling under the car. I also have the rubber ends and remember lot's of rust inside the rubber cushions.'71 350 made in Canada. Bruce
  24. Wow, great restoration pictures. Nice! Bruce
