  1. I use either Brad Penn Oil or add Cam-Shield to regular oil. http://www.cam-shield.com/acatalog/Cam-Shield_Oil_Treatment.html Mike
  2. I always thought 1st generation Monte Carlos were "GM A-body" cars. Same as the Chevelle.
  3. Why not try to find a good used dash? I've seen them around and they are not that expensive.
  4. If I remember correctly, the motor grounds to the door and one wire is positive (up) and the other is positive (down). Mike
  5. That looks like an externally regulated alternator (like the original). The problem is probably the voltage regulator. However, I would STRONGLY suggest switching over to an newer internally regulated alternator. I converted all of my cars that way. I have instructions on how I did it if that would help. Mike
  6. Hey Mike, I think "The Right Stuff" carries what you are looking for. http://www.getdiscbrakes.com/brakes/brake-lines Mike
  7. Hey Bob, Thanks for your input. I was thinking exactly the same thing that's why I went out yesterday and purchased lots of 25A fuses. Last night I unplugged the AC compressor as my first test. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks!! Mike
  8. Here is weird electrical problem (aren't they all) that I could use some advice on. For some reason, the AC fuse keeps blowing. I have no other issues with the car or any problems with any other electrical items in the car. Everything works fine on the car. When the fuse blows I am not even using any part of the Climate Control system. I replaced the fuse several times (with the recommended 25A fuse), started the engine, turned on the AC and let it run for about 5-10 minutes. All is well. The heater and AC work as they should. Then after about a day or so of driving (without even using the Climate Control system), the fuse is blown again. Since it seems to be happening when I am not even using the Climate Control system I would think it has to do with the current getting from the battery to the Climate Control switch. That would mean with the fuse block area or the dash wiring harness. That is where I would begin my search. What do you guys think? Maybe switching out the Climate Control mechanism? Thanks!! Mike
  9. Hey Jared, I have always wondered the same thing. I do not know of any. However, when I had the dash apart on my El Camino, I took everything apart and washed and cleaned all of the passage ways and with a stock blower motor it moves air much better than my other cars. Is there an easy way to see if yours might have some blockages especially in the box that mounts on the firewall? Maybe that will help. Also, some years ago I found out that the little door that opens and closes when you go from AC to Heat was not closing or opening all of the way. That will cause air to escape and never get to the vents. Just some thoughts. Mike
  10. Hey Dan, You are correct. My kit is for a small block. Thanks!! Mike
  11. Hey Dan, Are you interested in going with a Serpentine Belt AC System? If so, let me know. I have a kit that I never used. All new. Still in original GM boxes. AC is on the passenger side of the engine. I believe this is the correct link: http://www.gmperformancemotor.com/parts/12497698.html Thanks!! Mike
  12. Wow. Great pics guys!!! You are the best!! Thanks!! Mike
  13. Hey Tony, When you say "above the rear axle" do you mean somewhere on the axle or somewhere on the frame or somewhere on the body itself? I could never figure out where these went. Do you have any pics? Thanks!! Mike
  14. I usually am able to get it using a small crescent wrench. They usually aren't tight, just a little hard to get to. Good luck!! Mike
  15. I believe any GM A-body bucket seats from 69-72 will work. They will need to be recovered and there may be some slight differences like seat tracks and seat belt warnings, etc. but they will bolt into your car.
  16. Hey Steve, I don't think they are different. The cable does have an adjustment at the section that snaps into the cable bracket on the intake. You have to pry up on the tab which will unlock the adjustment (spring loaded), adjust to where you want it and then push the tab back down again. I don't have a picture to post but I'm sure somebody does. Mike
  17. Hey Chris, A few questions to ask yourself? - What gears are in it now? - What do you consider a good gear for a street/highway car? - Do you have a Chevy or BOP rear? Most folks will say a "2" series gear ratio is for highway driving but it really depends on what engine you have and what RPM range you like to run.
  18. Hey Mike, I have a 71-72 factory gauge setup (small block engine redline) that is still installed in a dash that I was saving as an extra in case I ever needed to convert a car (like you are suggesting). It also has all of the dash wiring harness still connected and in tact but the harness wires are cut just below the Fuse Block. I even found some instructions on how to do the wiring conversion. It also has things like the headlight switch, AC controls, etc. with it. I'm not sure that I will ever use it so if you are considering going that route let me know and I can post some pics. Thanks!! Mike
  19. That looks great. I would like to know what you used to spray the chrome. Thanks!! Mike
  20. There is also a "C" clip that holds the actual cable to the door panel bezel. You will need to gently pry that off to separate them. You can access the clip from the back side of the door panel. Mike
  21. Hey Dennis, Thanks for sending us the info you have. That there is so good info !!!! It is just what I am looking for. Thanks!! Mike
  22. We're all a bunch of sick people. My current black Monte looked just like the one in your picture (Autumn Gold) with a black top and black interior. My current blue Monte was originally Astro Blue. By the way, no doctor I've found can cure this illness!!!!! Mike
  23. Hey Dennis, Could you send me a copy also? My address is: packard36@juno.com Thanks!! Mike
  24. Hey Scott, Thanks for the pics and update. I've been thinking about doing the same thing on one of my Montes. Am I correct in assuming that the original tail shaft is swapped out and then the new unit is bolted to the original trans housing? Did you purchase a shorter driveshaft with the overdrive unit? I guess I better do some more research on these. Be sure to post some finished pics and let me know your tips and impressions after you are done. Thanks!! Mike
  25. I believe there are only (2) different sway bar diameters. Standard is 1" and SS is 1 1/8" Mike
