  1. Thaks for volunteering Rodney
  2. I just got off the phone with Tim who organizes the drags at Dallesport. It is a 1/8 mile at the airport. He says it is $40 for all day to race (10am to 5pm). They open the gates at 7:30am and registration is closed at 9:45. You must get to the track early to pass tech inspection before racing. Some of the drag racing veterans here in the club can inform you of what is required to pass tech. The fee for spectators is $10 per carload which is really reasonable. It seems there is interest from club members in doing the drags. We have never done the drag racing thing for the Western Meet before so maybe its time to do so. Something different.
  3. Good to see you here Ray!
  4. No multi-day cars shows in Woodburn on a quick search. I thought maybe we could find some racing near Bend to go to on the Sunday if we chose the Flashback event. I took a look to see if there are any drag or stock car racing for Sunday near Bend but not much luck. The tracks that have racing are a fair distance away (2 or 3 hours). The Woodburn strip is almost 3 hours from Bend. From some photos I've seen, the drags at Dallesport (near The Dalles) looks pretty cool. It is held at the airport and it appears anyone can enter their car. I am awaiting some information regarding cost and how to register since this is not included with Cruise the Gorge car show registration. I wouldn't race mine but it would be cool to see some members send their Montes down the strip.
  5. I think I'm even in on this. That's probably me on the phone with Vaughn.
  6. I got more information regarding the two events. The Dalles: - August 13-15, 2010 - They had 270 cars at last year's event - No problem setting up the canopy and club banner - I still do not have a definate answer regarding participation in the drags. I have a feeling we just spectate (still fun though). - No need to register as a group to park together. We just show up to the staging area as a group like other shows we've been to. Bend: - August 6-8, 2010 - They had 419 cars at last year's event - No problem setting up the canopy and club banner (no larger than 12x12) - No need to register as a group to park together. We just show up to the staging area as a group like other shows we've been to. Bend is a larger event with lots of stuff going on but The Dalles has drag racing... Decisions, decisions. Anyone else want to put their 2 cents in before "the call" is made?
  7. Well that's because I got some feedback regarding the weather. Glad Dave mentioned that.
  8. I have narrowed down the search to the following two events: Cruise the Gorge The Dalles, Oregon August 2010 http://www.midcolumbiacarclub.org/cruise-the-gorge Flashback Cruz Bend, Oregon July/August 2010 http://www.flashbackcruz.com/ I have sent emails to both events to clarify a few things and see how "accommodating" they are. I hope to get a response soon. At this point, I am personally leaning toward the Bend event since it has a full schedule of things to do and it is a little further South than The Dalles. As Dave mentioned in a previous post, June has a more likely chance of rain so I have dropped the Medford event from the running. Both of the above events are in July/August where there is a better chance of good weather. I also think that since we have some good candidates for events in Bend and The Dalles, La Grande seems a little close to Polson to consider for 2010 in my opinion. Let me know your thoughts on the above.

    2009 Western meet

  10. Quote of the week: "DANG!!!!"
  11. Most are driving home today. I'm sure we'll see something tonight or tomorrow.
  12. Looks like Dave Mau also had a hand in making the plaque (design of the print on the plaque). Nice Job Scott and Dave.
  13. Thanks for the suggestion, Francois! The type of events we are looking for are 2 or 3-day events with activities over the weekend and I'll explain the reason for this. It is difficult to draw people from long distances to the meet if it is only a 1 day event. On the west coast, the members are quite spread out and it is difficult to get decent attendance without drawing folks from a fair distance away. The attendance for a 1 day event would likely be low. If we added on some of our own weekend activities the club could be responsible if an accident occurred and the club was sued. The cost of the insurance to cover this is huge. Our meets are simply not big enough to warrant the insurance cost. Not only that, but organizing our own events is a ton more work and it can be tough to find club members to dedicate that amount of time. When we "piggy back" on other multi-day events, the weekend activities are the responsibility of the event and would fall under their insurance. I hope that explains the reason for a multi-day event. If anyone has further questions on this or anything else regarding meet events, don't hesitate to ask.
  14. As discussed, there have already been a few meets within a few hours of Salinas (Bishop, Santa Rosa, Pismo Beach)and yet there are still other states which have never hosted a meet. If that was not the case, I'd give the Cherry's Jubilee show the thumbs-up for 2010. I really appreciate the suggestion as it looks like the right kind of event for a meet. I have bookmarked it in my "future meet" folder. I'd personally have no problem driving to that event next year but it is time to give some other States who have not hosted a meet a chance for 2010, in my opinion.
  15. Although not specific to the flint plant, here's some general info on where to find build sheets. http://www.firstgenmc.com/tech/buildsheet.shtml If I recall, Flint might be the plant where it is tougher to find build sheets in the cars.
  16. I already added it to my future Western Meet events list.
  17. Welcome to the club, Santiago! This club is great. You will not find a better group of people. That looks like a fantastic show with some neat activities (I'd love to go to Laguna Seca). Thanks for the suggestion. We have been to areas close to Salinas a few times already (Santa Rosa, Pismo Beach, Bishop) and we want to explore some other areas/States for 2010. Several Western states have yet to host a meet and there are some viable options in those states. We will get back to central California in future years but not for 2010.
  18. Maybe it's time for me to drop some of my ideas out there. These are all 2 or 3-day events. It seems to have a lot going for the event and is not as close to the 2009 meet location as some of the other events. Some guys would get an opportunity to drag race their cars too which is something we haven't done in a western meet yet. I did find some other events in Idaho but they were too close to Polson to have as a 2010 meet. The events which charge admission to the public are typically a little pickier on the vehicles entered (no visible rust, all one colour, must be complete interior, etc). Any members with project cars would not likely be able to enter. We ran into this issue during the 2008 meet. Still open to other events if you have ideas.
  19. On both my 70 and 72 350 motors, the smaller fitting is on the intake and the bigger fitting is on the water pump so that is where I put the hoses. My 70 is non-AC and my 72 has AC.
  20. Yes, there is a show in Boise I found a few years ago that is a good candidate for a meet. Thanks to Adrian for his constructive suggestion.
  21. We are looking for some suggestions for the 2010 Western Meet. The criteria for a meet event is as follows: - Multi-day car show event - There must be a member available to organize the meet (preferrably local). - Preferably late-May until early September - Parking as a club during the show strongly preferred - It must be a location where we could expect a minimum of 10 members to attend. Click the link to see the map of where we have been: Past Western Meet Locations Map If you have a suggestion, please provide the location and event info. Simply stating "we should have it in Town, State" is not enough. Please also take into consideration where we have been thus far. If needed, I can organize an event which I'm attending but anyone can throw their hat in the ring. One note to start this off. Due to the fact that the Western Members are so spread out and that some areas just have a low number of members to begin with, it can be tough to get decent attendance (minimum 10 preferred) in some areas. Also, the fact that there are limited suitible events in the Western States makes it even more difficult to meet everyone's needs. I've looked into a few events and locations but I'll save my suggestions for later in the discussion. Email me, PM me, or post your suggestions here.
  22. Your car reminds me a lot of another member's (Steve) car: Very nice!
