monte70car
Yesterday I received a stock dumb light cluster from a fellow member here and started to the change over from dumb light to the gauges. They will be going in the 72 once I get a dash board carrier for it. Got the metal backing down to just the speedo and noticed the inside of the cluster had some rust showing up so I changed it out for another one I had. The back of the metal bracket, clock and the tach got a coat of chrome paint just to dress it up . Speedo in the new metal bracket instead of the inside being white I changed it over to a color change paint even though you wont see it. The plastic housing also got a coat of paint on it as it was blue in color and I wanted a black look Once everything was dry I put the metal bracket back on the cluster housing looks good so far. Last items to pick up is the AMP gauge and its bracket and the water and fuel gauge with bracket

stangeba
Looking good. I like your picture / info write up! Is the clock working OK? Now would be the time to get it repaired. Bruce
LostnFound
Hi Robert.....Are you using the conversion kit from sonnie?
monte70car
Thanks Larry. "Is the clock working ok?" Bruce as far as I know the clock probably doesn't work which ain't a big deal to me. "Conversion kit from Sonnie?" Larry I am not using a kit from Sonnie, the tach is an original 5500 RPM tach that was removed from my old u-14 cluster that I sold a few years back when I change my 70 over to an aftermarket cluster. I will be buying the AMP gauge, water temp and fuel gauge this Saturday and that will button up the cluster for now.
Jared Richey
Hey Rob check that Tachman website. He has Volt Gauges instead of an amp gauge also the Oil Pressure gauges that look stock. And are you wanting a used dash? I have several, maybe do some trading on those extra grills you're wanting to get rid of .
monte70car
I got a buddy who has a dash only thing wrong with it is the towers for the radio is supposedly messed up haven't seen the dash as of yet.
monte70car
AS of Saturday I now have a u14 gauge cluster ready to go into the 72 and I have enough parts start building a dumb light cluster just need the plastic housing, speedo, and clock. Or build another u14 cluster as I have at least one more stock tach (5000 redline I believe).

monte70car
I do not Murphy I know they are pricey $$ almost $200 for one.
monte70car
Here is the cluster in its home just need to paint the area that would be, behind the burlwood plate with some carbon fiber paint.
monte70car
Finished the dash board housing yesterday and trim the needed openings Also touched up the vents just so they looked good It's nice to have extra parts where you don't have to buy stuff. The dash r&r is now done - fixing the radio towers or radio cups on the dash so a radio can bolt in.
Murphy
Robert, Looks great! Are you installing the burlwood cover back ON?

Monteman1971
Hey Rob, Nice work! I maybe a little late to the party here but I find a bit of "hand glaze" on the clear plastic brings them back real nice. I've even taken the clear plastic off by melting the tabs that hold them to do the inside as well. Then you can re melt the tabs to put it back on. Murphy
Hey Robert, when you purchased the new amp gauge did it come with the mounting plate? I see several vendors are showing the amp gauge without the mounting plate?????? Is the 'GEN' light mounting plate correct for mounting the amp gauge?
monte70car
Murphy the amp gauge I got came with the mounting bracket. The gen light and bracket is doesn't have the holes for the amp gauge.
Murphy
Thanks Robert, that's what I was thinking..........
monte70car
I had a original amp gauge and was going to swap it with the gen light and bracket but it wouldn't work so I just brought an amp with the mounting plate.
