Rob Peters Posted January 29 Share Posted January 29 2003 was my first Eastern Meet. I walked over to the track to watch some of the drag races. The first vehicle to go down the the track was a novelty run by something like a Chevy Astro van that did a length of the track wheelie. Next was a couple Jet cars. Something happened to one of the jet cars and the driver lost control sending the car into the Jersey barrier right in front of us and then it went across the track and into the Jersey barrier on the other side causing it to roll over and burst into flames. After the fire was out the driver was taken to the hospital but died overnight in the hospital. The foam truck responded but the hose unrolled as the truck was responding and whipped around the rear tire of an awating ambulance and the hose ripped from the foam truck causing all of the foam to discharge up into the air.
