MonteMack Posted April 21, 2017 Share Posted April 21, 2017 Hey there just wondering if anyone knew any good carbon deposit removal products, dont really trust seafoam etc and I dont wanna open it up and scrape it by hand either. I remember my dad telling me about an old ford motomaster spray or something that worked amazing but it seems long discontinued. Any suggestions? 72jrfan88 Posted April 21, 2017 Share Posted April 21, 2017 I'll be honest I love seafoam I use it in all my cars including the 72. I put it in gas and oil right before a oil change. After the oil change even after 2000 miles the oil still looks clear. I put it in carb as well. every spring i also put it through the PCV valve. stangeba Posted April 21, 2017 Share Posted April 21, 2017 Old story, my dad had a 1966 Olds 98 425 4bbl. He drove it about 3 miles to work at 25 MPH and refused to run premium gas. I started driving this car (16 year old) and would take it out on the freeway to "blow the carbon out of it" Boy did it smoke but then did run better. A slight knock was also gone after this "power tune" One time my brother in-law, an engineer at Chevrolet, told me about poring water down the carb,while the engine is running, to clean out the carbon, and it worked, for free. Â Fast forward several years, I'm a rookie mechanic at a FORD dealership when we had a fairly new T-Bird towed in. The owner was told about spraying carb cleaner into the carb to clean things up. The owner took off the air cleaner and started to spray the can into the carb. After the can was empty, the owner tried to start the car but bent the crank and or some rods. MonteMack Posted April 22, 2017 Author Share Posted April 22, 2017 alright cool thanks for the replies, think ill try dripping or spraying tiny bits of water in the carb to see if i can clear some out carbon out since ive heard of that method for eons. would you recommend I use warm or hot water so it evaporates faster? and as for the freeway throat clearing I tend to do alot of that so im sure its coughed up all it could in that aspect. cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
