  1. Make your own with any seat belt reminder. It's just a noise maker and two wires.
  2. That is a 71-72 wheel. This is a 70 http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/120828241526
  3. No, same length shaft as a Chevelle. Just something GM thought would give their new luxury car a nicer ride. Same idea as the rubber frame mounts on the tranny cross member.

    1970 SS COPO

Hope we can work something out this year. I plan on the swap meet on Feb 23. http://www.wiscollectorcar.com/calendar/event/2376-greater-milwaukee-area-indoor-winter-swap-meet I also go to Jefferson spring and fall, Iola, and lots of shows around Racine, Milwaukee, and Waukesha during the summer.

    1970 SS COPO

I'm not questioning what you heard with your ears and I believe he knows the difference. I had a 70 with a 400 small block. it had buckets but no console. When I showed it back in the 80s a lot of people didn't believe it was factory. I have a 70 SS with a bench seat. I have the build sheet. Same thing, doesn't have buckets so it can't be an SS. Many different things were made back then, sometimes by accident when the wrong parts came down the line. These have been documented, not just remembered. There is a difference. This fall I saw a 70 Monte at the Greenfield Ave show. It looked like a barn find that someone had started to restore. It had SS trim and the right parts for an SS, air tank, big block steering shaft, etc. It also had a 4 speed with the correct Monte Console. I went back to that car 5 times but no one was there. I hope to see it again this year at a show and talk to the owner about it. Did I see it? Yes I did. Does this mean the factory made it AND THERE IS DOCUMENTATION? No, it's what I saw.

I remember Dale Chevy from back then. They did have a lot of hot cars on their lot. I was in Milwaukee then and friends and I would make the rounds of the dealers 2-3 times a month to see what was on the lots. Was this supposed to be a new or used car back when he saw it? Maybe there was one or maybe he remembers a 400 4 speed. Until someone has paperwork, it's all just 44 year old memories.
  7. Here is a place in SE Wisconsin http://local.yahoo.com/info-30725904-motorsport-powder-coating-delavan?csz=Janesville%2C+WI
  8. No front blinkers/park lights since 72 has them in the grill.
  9. You have the factory set up. As with your cruise, it's not seen often.
  10. Non air conditioned cars with Am or AM/FM mono radio had single front center mount speaker. A fader and single rear speaker on passengers side was an option for these radios. Any air conditioned car got dual front speakers. Stereo or 8 track radio cars got dual front and dual rear speakers air conditioned or not.
  11. As you can see, different amounts for different people and processes. Still need details about what you're doing or else just get extra for touch ups later. You will need it sooner than you think.
  12. Need more info. Type of paint? Single stage or base clear? Color and color of primer/sealer. HVLP or high pressure gun? Name brand gun or Harbor Freight special? Fluid tip and compressor size? Will you wet sand flat and buff or just paint and call it good?

    71 monte ss

My thoughts on this sight unseen, no idea about quality of work done so far, and nothing to prove it's an SS. $8,500 is way too high. You can buy a nice running small block for that price. It does have many desirable options. Gauges, AM-FM 8 track, big block, buckets, console, power windows, and rear defog. All that adds to the price. I'd be OK going 5-6,000 on it if I was looking at it for myself. It will be a very nice car with many options when finished even if it turns out not to be an SS.

" First the cruise control and no paperwork to prove its an ss.not aware of an ss with cruise from the factory" You are right about that. The air pump for the rear shocks is in the same place the cruise control brain is mounted. I have seen cruise installed in an SS but it was not mounted in the factory position and stood out as not original. Check out the SS page as mentioned above. With no paper work to back it up, the only sure way to tell is if the engine code is for a 454 and the engine numbers match the vin. Other than that, you can look for some of the things that came with the SS package and make an educated guess but that is all it will be since any of the options, other than the 454, could be ordered on a regular Monte if US sold. Canadian Montes have the Z20 code on the car.
  15. 70 Montes don't have the blue for the separate high beam bulb that the 70 Chevelle has. This could be used on a Monte and only a 70 Monte nut would know the difference. Just connect the green to parking light and clear to headlight. We know that it was a 70 only option so his listing for 71 up is wrong.
  16. You can see where the metal hold downs for the wood grain are on the back of this dash http://www.ebay.com/itm/271307931885?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 wouldn't be easy to do without at least loosening the dash up and pulling it forward.
  17. GM thought one was enough but another one can't hurt, if done right.
  18. Not much if it's just a lever and wires were cut before connector at the bottom of the column. You also need the rest of the wiring, brain under the hood, linkage to carb, speedo cable, vacuum set up and brake light switch for cruise if you want it to work. The lever is the same, except for color, until the hi/low switch was put on the column. As usual, 70 was different. It was chrome instead of color. That one would be worth a few bucks.
  19. Negative side is the one going to the distributor. Most coils have - and + on them so easy to tell.
  20. Is cruise control that rare on these cars? Yes it is. That's why I commented on it back when you first posted it.
  21. When they talk about SS dash, they mean Chevelle. All of our Montes came with the round gauge dash that only the SS Chevelles had. Non SS Chevelles got a plain looking dash usually called a sweep dash. You can just replace the clock using any of the vendors.
  22. Stainless pieces come off easily with a putty knife. Slip under and gently pry up. Pot metal pieces at lower corners by the trunk have a nut, inside the trunk, holding them. Easy to break the stud off trying to loosen nut.
  23. Yes. It is designed to fix factory paint problems no matter what system that company used. It will be softer than your paint since there is no hardener but will be at least as good as nail polish
