  1. Hey Jerry. I'm sorry, I read your dm to me and I haven't responded. ๐Ÿ˜ž I still haven't decided what to do about it yet. It still seems to be leaking slightly. I will keep you in mind if I swap it out. Sorry to hear about your damaged radiator.
  2. I think they are also. Just make sure if you do get them and install them you MUST have at least a 15x7 rim. They don't seat on a 15x6 which was the standard rim.
  3. Lol all good, ask away. I am using a driveshaft loop that bolts between the trans mount and transmission. I didn't want to drill holes in my virgin, solid floorboards. I did have to get a shorter trans mount to keep the geometry correct. Summit sells them.
  4. No, the only thing I had in stock was the 12 bolt. Lololol had to purchase everything else. Lol
  5. So today I decided to tackle the power seat. When looking for a build sheet when we first got the "barn find" we found the front bolt on each side broken. Well after much heat, penetrating fluid and cursing l am proud to say... It didn't work. Lolol Next, ole reliable... Drill bits. Drilled and retapped the front bolts and reinstalled the seat. Operation a success!ยก! Lol And no build sheet under the rug either. ๐Ÿ˜ž
  6. Hey Mark. I honestly would recommend the same exact parts I had installed in my 12 bolt. This identical rear is in the 70 SS as we speak. Has many 1/4 mile passes on it without an issue. I use 275 60 r15 drag radials. So far best of 11.22@ 120. If you look at the pics I also had the rebuilder weld the axle tubes to the center section. The factory 4 rosette welds are marginal at best. Our cars are heavy compared to most others and I also recommend the 1/2 studs. I use 2" version to be able to put the rally rim derby caps on. Any longer and you cannot.
  7. We used a Monte Carlo SS 83-88 steering box, that was in "stock", in my son's car. All we changed was the rag joint and the pressure hose. Handles nice!
  8. My son today decided he wanted to strip and paint some old Lakewood slapper bars that came on my 71 402 4speed when we purchased it. He wants an old school look. Lolol They came out very good.
  9. Hello all. One of todays projects.... Had the original 12 bolt for my 70 SS rebuilt with a Detroit Tru Trac, 3.31 gears new bearings, seals, strange axles with 1/2 x 2 studs, 1350 u-joint yoke, upper bushings and carrier bearing studs, new brake shoes, backing plates, wheel cylinders, hardware and new drums also. Built identical to the 12 bolt that is in the 70 SS now. Why you ask? Lol well... The rear just built is the original, #s matching rear for the 70. The 71 "barn find" had it's 12 bolt plucked from it many years ago. No one knows when, where or why. So the rear from the 70 will be transplanted into the 71. Yes, all that work for some numbers on an axle tube. Lololol Anyhow, lol I spent most of the day cleaning it up, getting ready for some paint. For anyone interested I have the original 12 bolt posi 2 series carrier that is available. Don't want to ship though. Very heavy. Also has ok 3.73 gears on it with a spacer/adapter.
  10. Sorry, had a brain fart! Lolol my 71 "barn find" has power windows. Just took this pic...
  11. For the price for new castings, you can't go wrong. I will be using those exact pieces when I get back to restoring my 71 402 4speed. I have gotten many parts from ground up for my/our various Montes and the parts have always been top notch!
  12. Welcome to the madness Doug! Great looking Monte! Did you paint it yourself?
  13. Panels are different pattern but switch location is the same. Like MCfan said, the power windows switch takes the place/ same location as the manual crank location.
  14. Hey Mike. The can is 10024z and the quart is 10024zp. OEM finish. Semi/ eggshell. Hope this helps.
  15. I used and have great success with Eastwood under hood semi black. Holds up extremely well and durable.
  16. That's the color of my 71 402 4speed. I hope it comes out as beautiful as yours!
  17. The "slap stick" detent plate that Dan makes are the bomb! Have it in my 70 SS, love it!!! Highly recommend!
  18. Many have asked how the turn signal housings are painted. I recently purchased an NOS housing and lens. The outside of the housing is covered in the same reflective/chrome thats on the inside, where the bulb goes. Only that the outside is more of an overspray texture than nice like the inside. All the used housings I have are black on the outside. Guess the "overspray" wore off throughout the years. Hope this helps!
  19. Ughhhh. AMD WTH!?!?๐Ÿค” HOORAY!!!!!! on your hanger victory!!!
  20. Welcome! Looks like a great starting point! Keep the pics coming!
  21. Not on a 70 or a 71 or a 72. As a matter of fact, no Monte Carlo ever built 70-88 ever had a 454 emblem on the back of it from the factory. The early 80s diesel had an emblem stating that it was a diesel but that's it.
  22. In my opinion the x pipe has more clearance for the trans than the h pipe style. My 70 SS starts with a 3.5 pipe from the collector to the x pipe then 3 to the ultraflows and tails. No ground clearance issues what so ever. My son's 69 GTO convertible has 2.5 exhaust with x pipe and ultra flows. No clearance issues and it's also has an M-22 in it. The black 71 and 71 barn find have the flowmaster 2.5 h pipe systems. No clearance issues either. Only difference I did notice is the tailshaft has more clearance with the x pipe should you have to remove the trans assy. The x pipe also changes the sound of the exhaust as compared to the h or nothing.
  23. My son has them on his 71. He likes them.
  24. The driveshaft length for a BBC/th400 12bolt is shorter than a th350. It should measure 54 1/2 from center of driveshaft u-joint to center of driveshaft u-joint. Just the shaft. Not to the end of the yolk. Also, the yolk should be "short" design. This is if you are using the stock style short tail th400. That being said, how is the tire balance? 60mph is usually tire balance. When you installed the strange yolk did you check the backlash on the gears again? Hope this helps.
