  1. And an SS454 to boot.. was it a clone or true SS? Did you stalk them and tell them about the club.? Rob
  2. I headed north to Leechburg for the Leechburg High School Marching Band fund raising car cruise. Our club Vice President Scott Stephens runs the car cruise for the band and the students and band boosters sell food, a 50/50 and run a Chinese Raffle to raise money. Out of the 40 something cars, there were 3 First Gen Monte's. Scott's 71, my 70 and another 70 (a potential member that both Scott and I stalked). Nice late afternoon/evening. rob
  3. John, my rear ones were also cut. I went to a junkyard to get the lines to repair mine. Many older and even newer Cadillac's use the fiber optic lines. Just go to one and find a caddy with the lines and cut a couple 10 foot sections. Once you have the lines, you will need a very sharp razor blade and make a very straight cut on the ends of yours and the donor lines. go to a very good electronics store (take a short piece of the donor line) and ask them for some small shrink tubing. Buy two sizes, one size that just fits around the fiber optic cable and the second size that just fits over the smaller shrink tubing. Slide both pieces of shrink tubing over the fiber optic line. The shrink tubing should be about four inches long. 2 inches should extend over the line in the car, leaving 2 inches extending past the end of the fiber optic line. Then push the donor tubing into that shrink tubing till ir butts up against the car fiber optic line. Hold these two fiber optic lines butted against each other and have someone heat the small shrink tubing till it shrinks nicely around the fiber optic line. Then slide the larger shrink tuing over the shrunk tubing and also shrink it too. BE VERY CAREFUL TO ONLY HEAT THE TUBING ENOUGH TO SHRINK THE TUBING BUT NOT HOT ENOUGH TO DAMAHE THE FIBER OPTIC LINE! The most important part of this trpair is a nice clean cut on the fiber optic lines so they butt up against each other without losing any light transference. rob
  4. John, I have never seen the fiber optic monitor on just the rear or front so I suspect you are correct about the front fenders being replaced. Where were the rear lines cut? If the line for each taail light is still there and the one for the license plate light is still there you can get new fiber optic line and splice it in and salvage at least the rear part of the system. rob
  5. Looks great. What is the center consol out of. I see you have the rear fiber optic monitor mounted on the package tray so I would assume you have it on the front fenders....that is a very nice 1970 only option for the Monte. rob
  6. Today is the third anniversary of the worst day of my life. That day I went in for an out-patient procedure and over a week later I awoke from a coma. During that time in the coma a priest was in to give Last Rites (Anointing of the Sick) and almost died twice. That began an over 3 month journey to regain enough strength to return to work. it was support and prayers from family and friends, including my friends and Monte family right here, that helped me in my recovery. While physically I have recovered, there are still many things that, in my mind put me right back into that ICU bed and it really scares the water out of me. In time I am sure this will pass. This experience has been on my mind this whole week. Thanks to you all who, three years ago, sent cards, emails and phone calls. rob
  7. Replaced the driver side donut with a metal one. Found one of the studs had loosened up causing the donut to blow out. Then my son and I took it and the Model A to a car cruise at an independently owned auto parts store that is closong at the end of the month. I have getting most of my auto parts there for almost 45 years. rob
  8. Sam is right, it was a map light mirror. If the mirror is still there and in decent shapr it may be worth salvaging to restore it. It wasn't a super rare option but it was an option just the same. rob
  9. Cory, you are right, shouldn't need to be repairing an engine with only 3700 miles on her. Was it a cracked intake, bad gasket, bad stud or what? Sorry you weren't able to make the Eastern Meet. tob
  10. It sounds to me like soneone may have used Armor-All, or another product like it, on the interior at some point in time. That stuff (junk in some peoples mind) will lay a nice shine on vinyl parts but will turn gummy after awhile. I would try a quality leather\vinyl cleaner on them. Rob
  11. Your negative battery cable should have a short wire coming off of it at the battery terminal clamp. That wire should attach to the passenger fender with a screw or bolt. If it is missing it wi.. cause the symptoms you describe. rob
  12. Did anyone notice that all but one of the knight pictures were our President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer? rob
  13. Here are the rest of my pictures..... Would have posted them last night but I have picked up a nasty bug and ended up in bed by 8:30. Bug still with me but I will try to get the rest of my pictures posted now. Rob
  14. I totally agree, which is pretty much what I said in my closing speach at the awards dinner but to a smaller audience than here on the boards. rob
  15. I totally agree, which is pretty much what I said in my closing speach at the awards dinner but to a smaller audience than here on the boards. rob
  16. I picked up your plaque, along with all of the other unclaimed ones from the club and gave them to Scott who will send them out to the winners. rob
  17. Congratulations to all the club and GM Nationals Winners. Also thanks for everyone for helping to win the club participation award and the coolest club hangout. I can tell you that normally the Impala group were upset that we won the club participation award because normally they have a lock on that award. The real bonus about beating them out is FGMCC only spans 3 years and the Impala been out there 10 generations and almost 50 years. NOT TOO SHABBY FIRST GEN MONTE CARLO CLUB!!! rob
  18. I would have to decline that nomination. Thank you all for your very kind words. Scott is right, it is a ton of work to pull it off right. As yet, I have not heard of any complaints on anything....... with the exception of the weather but in the end we did not let that "dampen" our spirits, we simply reworked our itinerary and detoured around it and had a great time in spite of the weather. If anything, Saturday's weather forced us to have a more relaxing day which was great. The driving games were a blast with the bonus go-cart race during the Poker Run. I am glad everyone had a good time. If anyone did have any problems that were not addressed by me, Carlisle Events, the hotel, Awards Dinner restaurant or any other area of the Eastern Meet please let me know so in the future these things can be avoided or corrected. There is no way Scott or myself or for that matter any Meet Director to improve on these meets unless we are made aware of these issues. You can send me a PM with any issues you may have had. Again, thanks for all of the kind words. Rob
  19. Now that is a group I would cross to the other side of the street to avoid walking past. Just kidding, not the entire group. Great looking crew. rob
  20. Nice new badge you have there Larry rob
  21. Sorry Everyone but Scott is going to post all of the winners for the awards. He was waiting to get this information from me. Scott will be posting them as soon as he gets a chance, keep posted!! rob
  22. Thank you Sam but just a note, the color of mine is Astro Blue.... Misty Turquoise is the coloUr of Aaron's but it is the thought that counts, right? Rob
  23. The hotel is very good to us. We have been going there since the year after they opened. Out of all of the groups who stay there, they have told us that we are their favorite. We always clean up after ourselves and always behave ourselves, unlike some groups. We even stay there in the off years of the eastern meet. By the same token, the Carlisle Events LOVE us too. Can you imagine what that show field would have looked like Friday if the FGMCC had not been present. According to the Carlisle Events Staff, we had 47 members with cars registered in the club name, the next closest group was the Impala club with I think they said they had a total of 27 or 28 cars registered..... not bad since the Impala club recognizes all years of Impala and we only span 3 years..... do the math yourself, are we good or what!!!!! Rob
