  1. Spent my morning working on my trailer hitch… I replaced the wooden mock up with the real thing… BTW,,, The mock up was a great help….. This has been a "plan as you go" project… I'll post more pics of the project in the trailer hitch forum … Project went well and the hitch fits like a glove. Note the clearance below the frame crossover .. I left room for installation of the receiver and bracing … I wanted NO modifications to the frame… I decided to bring it forward as close the the bumper as possible… It blends well with the bumper and actually reduces the visibility… Also note the symmetries of the hitch and exhaust pipes … I wanted it to blend Ed C
  2. Hanks a lover boy, but knows his boundaries…. Took him and Mom for some fancy dining at IN and Out burger….
  3. Went for a drive… Hank had to sit in the back seat, Wife came with us… Picked up the remaining parts for the trailer hitch…
  4. Carl, Both bulbs blink on my 70. I just installed the LED light unit in mine. You can use the upper or lower socket …. fiber optics ???? Ed
  5. I took the liberty to screenshot this post from another thread… … Hope it helps… ed c
  6. agree… Hank just turned a year old.. I got him at a rescue center as an 8wk old pup… Turned out to be a great dog.. Around here it's a crime to drive my Monte without him …
  7. Hank and I went to the parts house and scrap metal dealer… The price for steel is unbelievable.. Beginning to think it would be cheaper to buy a Monte with hitch already installed… Ed C
  8. In the mock up stage.. Plan is to make it safe , use existing holes in the frame and minimum visibility…
  9. My gauge issue occurred after the vehicle sat for a long period of time… It would show 3/4 full... I once ran out of gas and the gauge was at the 1/4 mark… Rather than pull the tank, I decided to live with it for awhile and refuel about every 100 to 150 miles.. I later added some some Lucas fuel additive... The gage seemed to gradually returned to normal operation… I didn't trust it at first, but It's been working perfectly now for many years… I'm not sure the additive is the solution,, but the gauge works now and I trust it to the last gallon… It was certainly easier than pulling the tank... As a matter of routine, I use 4oz of Lucas injector cleaner in mine every other refuel.. IMHO,, I think most of the problems come from internal corrosion ,, not an adjustment issue. If it's electrical, fix it ,,, but fuel floats don't normally get out of adjustment when the car is in sitting in the garage.. Ed C..
  10. No… They were Olds 442 1969 if I recall correctly … Those wheels look better than any wheels I've ever owned… Bought them from a friend who wrecked his Olds… $25 each … I wish I could find another set…
  11. Mom loved it…. Taken at Jacksonville beach July 1970… Note the double line whitewalls…
  12. Back in the day…. taken in 1977 … At the saddle club…..
  13. late for the party …
  14. After sitting for a few months and a long term storage, mine did the exact same thing… I ignored it both times and a few weeks later the problem went away... … … Been working perfectly for several year now….. Hope this helps. It may be worth the wait…. No pun intended. LOL BTW.. I did run out of gas once… Ed C
  15. Did some clearance checks and mock up work … No new holes and good clearances…
  16. I think the chrome mirrors are p/n CIPA 19000……
  17. Try to search Amazon for CIPA 19100 mirrors … If that doesn't help let me know Ed
  18. You can still get these from Amazon … I purchased mine originally over thirty years ago… They are plastic and fit perfectly… the CIPA brand is the exact same as the ones on my car…. Ed C.
  19. I found this in the junk yard today and cut the end plates off.. After a little cutting and welding, I think it will tuck up and the only thing left visible will be the 1 1/4 " receiver… Distance between my plates is 43 1/4 "… I need to reposition the recepticle on my junk yard find and stretch it about 6 " … BTW… my cardboard templet is shown.. I decided to drill a single holes. Center drill, put in the bolts and let it drop in it's natural place… It makes for a solid grip and easier removal.. End bolts are 1/2 " ,, center bolt is 5/8" ... Ed C.
  20. Today I made a cardboard template for mock up and plasma cut steel plates for my trailer hitch… It will be almost hidden when finished and not welded to the frame. Bolts are temporary and will be replaced with shiny ones … My other option was to weld it to the gas tank … Ed C …
  21. I just went to my garage and installed the new gasket under my old mirror … Took about ten minutes …. I got lucky and don't have to paint the new mirrors.. I suspect they will be good for another 30 years…. I think you'll like them … Just make sure you get the CIPA 19100…… I use a small convex mirror on my passenger side … Ed C...
  22. I color changed my Monte back in 1992 and stopped at a parts house to get these mirrors for the paint shop... I was a disappointed that were plastic… The first bullet mirrors I purchased in 1970 were cast metal and difficult to paint... One of my mirrors has a cracked base gasket… I couldn't find a new base gasket,,, so I took a chance and ordered these $25 mirrors from Amazon… I was surprised to find they are identical in every way to my green ones,,, even the gasket. Not sure I'll do anything but change the gasket now and keep the leftovers for spare parts.. Anyone thinking about these mirrors will find them better than expected… They fit great and look like they are made for the Monte …. Don't let the cheap price scare you off… I've used mine for thirty years and they still look great with the car.. Ed C ...
