  1. The order sheet description is not always the same as the build sheet. Your build sheet indicates that your car was built with the G78 15 dual stripe white walls.
  2. The Salesman's order shows: G78 15 Fibreglass white stripe PU8 G70 15 Fibreglass white stripe P90 G70 15 Fibreglass red stripe P91 (The G78 15's are dual white stripe)
  3. I meant to say that most SS 454 cars came with G70x15 white stripe tires. Non SS cars came with G78x15 dual white stripe tires.
  4. On Monte Carlos, G70x15 red stripe was available as code P91. Very few cars were ordered with red stripe tires, as most came with the white (3/8 inch) stripe tires. The G70x15 red stripe tires were listed in the 1970 owners manual as well as the service manual and the salesmen's order sheet.
  5. The whole article is a joke with many inaccuracies. As most of you know, their was never an LS6 Monte Carlo ever built. I
  6. Front inner fenders were plastic on Monte Carlos and steel on Chevelles, they are supposed to be Inner changeable.
  7. The 396 was bored .030 in late 1969 to improve emissions. The SS 396 Chevelle designation was continued because of the popularity of that model. In 1970 Chevrolet increased the stroke on the 427 engines and they became the 454.
  8. In 1970 I ordered a Chevelle SS 396 (actually a 402) with the Turbo 400 and 3.31 posi. It was a great car with zero issues.
  9. I purchased the compressor mounts from Dan, they are excellent.
  10. If your KYBs failed that soon, they are defective. I installed 4 KYB Gas Adjust shocks on my 62 Impala SS 11 years ago, now after 15000 miles they still give excellent handling and ride. I recently installed them on my 70 MC SS 454 on the front and like them. After experiencing a very harsh ride on a 3500 Chevy van and on an 87 Camaro with Bilsteins, I will never purchase them again. .
  11. With the ignition on, I don't have any voltage at the detent switch. The wiring diagrams in the shop manual do not show the wiring for this circuit. Does anyone know where the power is fed from?
  12. 1970 SS 454, 2.56 axle ratio, 225 70 R15 tires When flooring the accelerator above 50 mph it does not downshift to 2nd. At 50 mph it does. Is there any way to get a downshift up to at least 70 mph?
  13. I don't believe that ACdelco manufactures spark plugs anymore. Their plugs for late model Chevrolets are made by Denso or NGK. I recently installed NGK iridium plugs in my 70 SS 454 and they are working great. Platinum or iridium plugs Will last longer.
  14. My cars of the past: 1958 Chevy Del Ray 283 1960 Impala 335 hp, 4 speed 1961 Impala 305 hp, 4 speed 1962 Impala SS 300hp, AC 1963 Impala SS 300 hp, 4 speed 1963 Impala 250 hp SS conv. 1964 Malibu SS 220 hp, 4speed, conv 1967 Chevelle SS 396, 350 hp, 4 speed 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix 400 350 hp 1970 Chevelle SS 396 350 hp 1973 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ 455 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ 400 1976 Monte Carlo 400 1978 Olds Cutlass 305 1984 Camaro Z28 305 HO 1987 Camaro IROC Z 350
  15. Be sure the car is up to the normal operating temperature when you check the transmission level.
  16. Wanting my Monte to look as original as possible, but with a metal core, I bought Pertronix 708102 (for big blocks). These wires are 7mm black jacketed and have the spiral wound metal core that does not cause radio issues. Amazon prime had the best delivered price, $60.99
  17. With flat tappet cam engines it is recommended that you use a an oil with at least 1000 ppm ZDDP. If you use ZDDP additives, be careful not to ad too much. Most oil designed for new cars has reduced ZDDP to protect the catalytic converters. Check with the manufacturer of your oil to verify the amount of ZDDP.
  18. Thanks guys for the info. I am going to stay with 32.
  19. I have new P225 70 15 radials on my big block SS. What are you guys using for tire pressure?
  20. I have a partial build sheet for my 1970 Monte Carlo SS. Does anyone have a list of the build sheet codes codes for this car?
  21. St. Patrick was born in England!
  22. Here are some magazines with articles on the 70 Monte Carlo SS, these can sometimes be found on ebay or Amazon: ' Special Interest Autos, June 1991 Car Life,Feb. 1970 Motor Trend, Nov. 1969
  23. I recommend purchasing the factory service manual and the factory assembly manual. A Chevrolet parts manual covering the 65-75 models is also helpful.
  24. Very nice article, but I don't think you will ever find a nice SS454 for $32000 - $35000
