  1. In 1970 I ordered a Chevelle SS 396 (actually a 402) with the Turbo 400 and 3.31 posi. It was a great car with zero issues.
  2. I purchased the compressor mounts from Dan, they are excellent.
  3. If your KYBs failed that soon, they are defective. I installed 4 KYB Gas Adjust shocks on my 62 Impala SS 11 years ago, now after 15000 miles they still give excellent handling and ride. I recently installed them on my 70 MC SS 454 on the front and like them. After experiencing a very harsh ride on a 3500 Chevy van and on an 87 Camaro with Bilsteins, I will never purchase them again. .
  4. With the ignition on, I don't have any voltage at the detent switch. The wiring diagrams in the shop manual do not show the wiring for this circuit. Does anyone know where the power is fed from?
  5. 1970 SS 454, 2.56 axle ratio, 225 70 R15 tires When flooring the accelerator above 50 mph it does not downshift to 2nd. At 50 mph it does. Is there any way to get a downshift up to at least 70 mph?
  6. I don't believe that ACdelco manufactures spark plugs anymore. Their plugs for late model Chevrolets are made by Denso or NGK. I recently installed NGK iridium plugs in my 70 SS 454 and they are working great. Platinum or iridium plugs Will last longer.

  8. Be sure the car is up to the normal operating temperature when you check the transmission level.
  9. Wanting my Monte to look as original as possible, but with a metal core, I bought Pertronix 708102 (for big blocks). These wires are 7mm black jacketed and have the spiral wound metal core that does not cause radio issues. Amazon prime had the best delivered price, $60.99
  10. With flat tappet cam engines it is recommended that you use a an oil with at least 1000 ppm ZDDP. If you use ZDDP additives, be careful not to ad too much. Most oil designed for new cars has reduced ZDDP to protect the catalytic converters. Check with the manufacturer of your oil to verify the amount of ZDDP.
  11. Thanks guys for the info. I am going to stay with 32.
  12. I have new P225 70 15 radials on my big block SS. What are you guys using for tire pressure?
  13. I have a partial build sheet for my 1970 Monte Carlo SS. Does anyone have a list of the build sheet codes codes for this car?
  14. St. Patrick was born in England!
  15. Here are some magazines with articles on the 70 Monte Carlo SS, these can sometimes be found on ebay or Amazon: ' Special Interest Autos, June 1991 Car Life,Feb. 1970 Motor Trend, Nov. 1969
  16. I recommend purchasing the factory service manual and the factory assembly manual. A Chevrolet parts manual covering the 65-75 models is also helpful.
  17. Very nice article, but I don't think you will ever find a nice SS454 for $32000 - $35000
  18. If all you need is the fabric this place has almost everything. SMS Auto Fabrics Canby, Oregon
  19. When I was a Boy Scout one of the leaders had a new Oldsmobile Super 88 two door ht. I rode with him on a ski trip to Mt. Hood. I believe the car had a 394 cu. in. V8 with about 315 hp. I was very impressed with that car.

Welcome aboard! I have been judging and restoring GM cars for over 30 years, your Monte has the first red differential cover that I have ever seen.
  21. The recommendation to not delete the ballast resistor has been added since I installed these systems over ten years ago. Petronics used to recommend bypassing it. I would certainly recommend following the instructions that came with your kit.
  22. I have used Pertronix ignitions for many years and have been very pleased. I definitely prefer the lobe sensor model. I have used 7mm wires and stock as well as high performance coils. Be sure to bypass the ballast resistor for full voltage to the coil.
  23. After installing a reproduction gauge and a new ACDelco sender, I read 210 degrees with an actual 185 degrees. I then replaced the sender with a Lectric Limited one and everything now works perfect. I think your Lectric Limited sender is defective.
  24. I replaced my temperature sender (factory gauges) with a new AC Delco unit. With the new sender my temperature gauge was reading about 20 degrees to hot. I then installed one from Lectric Limited and am now getting accurate readings. The car is a 70 SS 454. I thought you guys would like to know about this. I have heard of other guys with older Chevys having similar issues
