  1. i use TPO bumper repair, it has similar ridgidness and flex as the stock plactic... dries fast, easy to sand... i will get the part number at work for you, its about $50 a tube but has many uses, you will be addicted to the stuff after you use it once
  2. If i had $5000 to spend i could get more from a 350 than either 400 or 402.... 350 parts are dirt cheap even with the good stuff compared to big block parts. Now if i had 10k to spend... that would be a different story., i wouldnt be afraid to take a stock 350 to 5500rpm stock.... with good heads and a balanced bottom end with prepped rods and better pistons... 7500rpm but dont stay there for very long
  3. anyone notice the hood and trunk have rounded corners? cool idea
  4. you will need to do it by hand if you want it to look good... I have had 20+ different car stripe templates supplied by customers over the years and never once did i have a useable one.
  5. best way is to yank it out and weld it up... But i had honda crx, JB welded a 4"x1/2" rip in the oilpan so i could make it home. Left it like that for 7 years never had an issue

    wha.....

those are nice wheels.... i prefer a bone stock monte.. but i love a bone stock monte with 13x7 wires and thin whitewalls. I have always had alot of respect for the lowriders and the unbelieveable amout of time and money they invest into the cars. i would not say the lowrider community is anymore dangerous than billybob and his buddys mudbogging giant trucks at 1am drunk as hell with a bunch of country folk standing around with shotguns and beer.
  7. i prefer the stock insulation... i love how it hangs like something in a haunted house and the rats love to steal chunks of it whenever its parked for more than 2 days
  8. i had a 64 falcon and i did a huge weight reduction..... had a thin foam back seat upholstered to match the front seats, no insulation in the headliner or carpet, i shot lightening holes in all the door inner structure and many other places that i am sure comprimised the cars safty. Fiberglass door panels, bumpers, aluminum engine parts of course. The 1/4 glass was glued in place so i could remove all the window regulator parts, i also cut out all braces in the hood and trunk lid. I finally tipped the slales at less than 2300 lbs with a full tank of gas. The best part was it looked bone stock other than painted bumpers and wide rear tires, Copper with a white top.
  9. If someone can go over this and prove it accurate, it may be worth a sticky post?

    Mystery SS

hello, I looked at some buildsheets on this site, and looked at my own, My car is a 72 Van Nuys built model but i figured it could help for referrence. The font changes on some letters, * symbol is not placed properly in a few places, And its the only buildsheet where i have seen letters and entire words leaning, tilted crooked etc... I have noticed that alot of sheets have words descriptions spelled differently so that doesnt mean anything. If someone was going to pay to have such an expensive unique car built back in the day why the hell would he go gold with green interior? I think its fake.
  11. you could always have them straightened and polished. not a cheap route though unfortunately Steve
  12. Wow thats great! Runnin 11s and doin it in style.
  13. if it works, and its the answer to everyones problems... california will ban it for sure
  14. Hello, I have used those silly r-134 conversion kits on many of my own cars and friends cars without changing a darn thing, nope not even the O rings. I had the r-12 systems evacuated and filled them up with r-134 and never had a problem yet. "Specialists" say the oils wont mix, and the O rings will blow out but i have yet to see any issues. Still its a "do at your own risk" procedure. You cant run r-134 in an old york system (usually found in early 70s A/C conversions or in ford vehicles of the same vintage) but i am not sure why. Steve

    Site issues

i have AOL, and the only thing i have ever seen is the shout box lock up and i need to refresh the page to get it going again. No big deal. OH and my virus shield wont let me in the chat room for nothing.... even when i beg it!!! Steve
  16. NO, but what about a blemished one for $50? He will mess one up sooner or later
  17. could you imagine painting the hood to look totally stock.... and when you get mad just grab it and throw it 25 feet? nobody would mess with you.
  18. Hello, i made the mistake once buying into "the first" cowl induction saleen replica hoods for my 5.0 mustang, it was total junk. 2 years later they were half the price, fit a bit better and well.... still junk. The biggest issue i have experienced with carbon fiber hoods is they dont fit all that great, most people like the raw finish so shaving edges, or reworking the hood is not an option at all unless you want to paint it. Painting a carbon fiber hood is the next issue, most hoods have tons of mould release imbetted in the pores of the resin finish. So when you try to paint it you get what looks like 800 kazillion fisheyes that you will never get rid of, oh and primer, clear , sealer... they will all do it. its a real pain!. Steve
  19. Hello, I got the chance to talk with a lady who was a former assembly line worker for GM. Here is what she told me. Time is money! so if you had the connections through GM to have something unique done it was possible as long as it in no way slowed down production time. After i mentioned the Monte carlo SS 4 speed she replied.... If it was never available as a 4 speed as i said it is highly unlikely that a 4 speed SS was built special for anyone... the reason is that adding a 4 speed slows down the assembly for the tranny guy, engine guy and the interior guy on the assembly line, too many parts and people involved to make one special car. Its more likely a 402 4 speed car was on the assembly line and a 454 was waiting for it in place of the 402, in this case it would not interfere with any workers or vehicles on the production line, but still would not be a 454ss 4 speed. I am not sure if she was right about this but i get what she was trying to explain.. it makes sense. What do you think?
  20. Yep it looks like a 71, maybe its a 454 SS 4 speed car Even the best car collectors get screwed sometimes.
  21. IM NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!!!!!! not even one Chevette!!!!!!!
  22. It scares the hell out of me how fast you guys track people down.
  23. Hello, i am not very familiar with the SS monte. But i do know the obvious... its got a 454. OK, now here is where i get confused, i read in your tech "how to tell an SS" and it says there are no SS 4speed production cars. Are you sure of this? I personally have seen several so called SS-4 speed Monte carlos, and even some of my collectors books mention a 4 speed as an option for the monte SS. The part thats driving me crazy is i know somewhere i saw actual production #s for the SS-4 speed. Am I going crazy? or did the book writers just assume that it had the same options as a Chevelle? In that case i see how it would be easy to pull off a fake 4 speed SS since most people would also assume it would be an option carried over from the Chevelle line. What do you think? Steve
  24. Hello, I have wondered about this myself. I have seen all years of the first gen Monte with the halo and full halo tops. im sure over the years people have added tops their way and also i would make a safe bet the dealerships added tops too on some cars to help sales of slow sellers or unique cars. At that a dealership may choose to run the top down to the glass just to save on trim cost and the labor involved in installing it. hunt down your build sheets everyone! Steve
