  1. What a GREAT event it was! Meeting the New Members and reconnecting with the others made this one special. Of course Life presents challenges that prevent Members from attendance and you All were in my thoughts also. Hope to see everyone next Year What a diverse group of individuals all with the same passion for our cars and it shows during these events. It almost encompasses the effort(s) made by those members who were instrumental in ensuring it's success. So, as always, a very Special Thanx to Aaron and April for their endless efforts making those events so memorable for the rest of us who have attended. Matt & Christine mapped our Beautiful Friday Cruise Route and provided the logistic help & Lunch in making this a very Scenic and pleasurable experience. The views were epic A Special Thanx to all (4) of you for making this one of the best in my memory. I say this every time, Gonna be a tough one to beat but somehow they do................. Looking forward to the Longer drive up to Penticton next year. Thanx to everyone in Attendance for their contribution....................... Until next Year Doug
  2. I'm leaving tomorrow around 11:00 AM for the Dalles. I should be there no later than 3:00 PM unless the Sun turns me into a French Fry by the time I get there. Frankly, the Temp isn't that much different than here in Portland. Thought I would never say this but "Looking Forward to the Fall"! All drive safe & see you tomorrow................... Doug
  3. I put Headman 1 3/4" Long Tube Headers on my 72 Monte 402 CI. engine and they fit nicely with no modification(s). One of the Tubes sits close to the Proportional Valve on the frame but as of today, no problems. The other thing I liked about them is they have the 3/8" thick flanges and after a couple cinching sessions early on, I haven't had to worry about them since. They have been on since January of 2010. I highly recommend them and believe the part number is 303-C or 313-C. The C stands for Ceramic Coated. On the high side for cost but as they say, you usually get what you pay for..................... Good Luck with your choices Doug
  4. A really nice clean look. Congrats on your work. It makes it all worth while............................ Doug
  5. Aren't the Door Jam Switches different for Driver/Passenger side? A 2 prong on driver side & 1 prong on passenger. You may have the passenger side door switch & by replacing it with the correct one would fix your problem? I'm not completely sure about this but as I remember it, I think I'm right about them being different. Doug
  6. Hi Steven & to the Club. I can't offer you specific Sites to find your needs as I typically made my purchases from fellow Members who may have what your looking for. On our Home Page there are suggested Vendors as well. Give it a bit & I bet others will read this and offer you good suggestions. Once again, Welcome......................... Doug
  7. I would be suspect of the Thermostat then considering you had replaced your entire cooling system. It sounds as the coolant isn't circulating enough to keep the motor in check at low RPM's. I can't imagine how your blocking the heater hose would cause engine temperature to rise. All the Hoses in their respective places? I thought I had your answer with my 1st comment. Doug
  8. I had a very similar problem some years ago and turned out to be the Radiator was plugged. Could keep it in control while motoring down the highway but when stopped or slowed, radiator temp would rise quickly. I would check for a restricted flow in radiator first. Doug
  9. Thanx, so do I. My brother & his wife went to Oahu late March this year and he got it for me. Doug
  10. Your a Wise man Rob. Oh, the car looks great to...................... Doug
  11. All excellent reasons Darren........... Personally I also enjoyed Peach Tree event and looking forward returning. That being said, others may prefer more variety which also is appealing. In earlier Posts I think Aaron had alluded to the idea returning to Penticton every other year unless someone has seen a problem with doing so. And considering the miles driven at every Meet by our Canuk neighbors, I don;t see the distance being a inconvenience here in the Northwest to travel to anyway. Another good reason is the Collector Car Shows (the more entertaining ones) are not of great number, so spreading those around would seem to make sense. "Don't want to burn through the deck to soon.............. I vote Penticton based on your argument & my blather Darren................. Doug Doug
  12. Well today I won 1st Place in 1970-79 Class and also received a Blue Ribbon (Honorable Mention) to boot at the same Venue. There were I'm guessing over 200 Cars entered in their respective Classes and many more beautiful cars than mine in my Class. There were only 2 Monte's entered. Mine & a 1986 Monte SS. I'm guessing someone in the Judging noticed this and possibly the Rarity that likely made the Award(s). Anyway, a Happy Day............................. Going to another tomorrow......................... Doug
  13. Just a FYI. I have added 2 more Customs I have found into the data base for a total of (20) 1972 Customs. Haven't posted new results as of yet as I believe our membership has included all their info making updates at this point periodically updated. Keep your eyes open and even if you believe I already am aware, please message me so that I can confirm duplication or a new candidate. I appreciate all your efforts in making this a comprehensive instrument. Doug
  14. Hey Chris, The Kick Down Switch is initiated around the half way point while Pedal must be to floor to activate switch. Not certain why it is this way but must be a reason. As far as being able to activate switch around half way down would probably startle one and that's why under those traffic conditions you would simply down shift to get the acceleration you need (again in traffic). Does this make sense? That's my reasoning anyway. Basically, if After Burner kicks in with pedal to floor, your done........................... Doug
  15. Hi Anssi, Can you add some history for this problem? Always been an issue or something recent? Have you made any changes leading up to the problem. More info will get you closed to the fix. I assume you haven't been able to release the hood from the mechanism................ It is either adjustment of mechanism is broken. You might try someone operating the latch while another pushed down firmly on front of Hood careful not to dent metal as it is so tight it can't release and gently pushing Hood back toward cowl. These subtle attempts may get it released and then inspect and adjust if this works. Otherwise, not really sure how else I would go about it.......................... Doug
  16. The kick down switch is moved when accelerating and switch should be set to engage after burner when accelerator is pushed to the floor. Calibrating or setting the switch is just a matter of moving the spring loaded plunger forward at least half way with your finger, release back to stop and that should set switch. I don't exactly remember but I believe the switch when mounted requires no adjustment but could be wrong. Make sure you have power to switch. Doug
  17. That "LE" does not appear to fit with the axle stamp as those look raised and fresher vs. stamping inset into the metal. Can you clean up that area to expose a clearer picture of the stamping? I am referring to the .the Axle Tube stamp. Here is a link to the FGMCC Tech Page that will aid you in identification if in fact a 70 Monte original axel. http://www.firstgenmc.com/tech/rearaxledecoding.shtml Doug
  18. Hi Steve, Not sure they reproduce the Dash Vents with the Shut offs like in 1970/71. I looked on eBAY and bought OEM Vents to do mine. I liked the added shut off control feature that gave the Dash a busier feel. They are out there. I believe I have some of the Dash Corner Vents but not for the Center Dash Vent. Doug
  19. Hey Roger, I have updated your info and will Post newest revision soon. You can determine where built by going to FGMCC Home Page, scroll to Resources and Technical Info found on L/H side of Home Page and open. Scroll to identifying VIN Numbers and open. The instructions will guide you from there. Your VIN is stamped just inside front window ledge on driver side if the Build Sheet is not available. To read it, look into front window from outside and hopefully it is still easily legible. The 7th digit, letter "L" from my VIN identifies Van Nuys, CA. as the Manufacturing Facility. Doug
  20. Hey all, I have updated to latest revision #6. Verify your info and any that are not complete based on the criteria on the spread sheet, please advise. I have added my notes to this one as a FYI. Let me know if picture size is an issue. I'm using PowerPoint and it seems to screw up my pic size. All have a GREAT day.............. Doug
  21. Here is a pic showing the placement for the switch. If you don't have the Power Apron Trim piece, you will have to determine the dimensions for proper placement in the non power apron trim. I did that when I installed my Power Bucket Seat. You will see in last pic how I determined my hole placements but DO NOT consider those dimensions as exact if you drill you hole placements into the Apron. Location will be representative and any variance between yours vs, mine needs understood before drilling holes. You will see a pocket on the underside of the Bucket Seat where when Apron is installed, the Power Lead plugs in and backside of Switch pockets into that open space. I thought I had a pic showing it but can't seem to locate it. Good Luck and quadruple check for fitment before drilling into anything if you have to................ Doug
  22. Just letting everyone know that I included the 72 Custom currently on eBAY. Not running but likely a candidate. I made notes on it along with the VIN number included in Auction specisfics. Based on current numbers, we have 15 documented with a clarification needed on one. Also an FYI for all to let me know if you come across any going forward. Doug
  23. Hey All, Been spending the Winter touching up paint chips (my 1st experience)! I 1st stripped the wax from car and a fair job to date on paint repairing. Yesterday I was rubbing car with Maquires #9 Compound to remove scratches and the dull finish where I was sanding paint repair(s). A guy walking up the street said nice car and asked me if it was a 1966 or 67. A little confused, I told him 1972. He squinted at the Rear Tail Panel to read the script and at which point I told him it is a Monte Carlo. Now I don't really have a mental picture for a Cadillac of year(s) stated, but he told me that's what he thought it was. At 1st I thought "what a Goof" but after consideration looked at his mistake as a compliment. Imagine what that type of comparison says about the styling. Yeah, you can call it a Cadillac anytime...................... Doug
  24. Thanks for the Heads up Steve. I will add to data base and make notations for future reference. Doug
