  1. When ever you are working behind the dash/ cluster, ALWAYS remove the negative battery cable first. It is so easy to fry the printed circuit board if you fail to do so. If you need a new printed circuit board, sonnie24 on ebay seems to the the cheapest. They are a quality part, have used plenty myself. is a link to sonnie24 This link is for a full gauge circuit board. http://www.ebay.com/itm/70-71-72-1970-1972-CHEVELLE-SS-EL-CAMINO-MONTE-CARLO-CIRCUIT-BOARD-GAUGE-CLUSTER-/232289823491?hash=item36158d6b03:g:JtIAAOxyLN9SodGX
  2. I think that smaller bolt you are describing is for mounting the steel dash frame to the vehicle. It is above the column. Once you have dropped the column you would be able to find it. It is kind of hard to see. You may have better luck feeling for it. The head on that bolt is a 7/16. You may not have a good connection at one of the nuts you removed and reinstalled. Be sure they are all tight. Most instrument cluster problems end up being a ground issue.
  3. Check out Year one. Looks like a 72 bench seat cover is $339.00.
  4. Is your fiber optic light for sale Arthur?
  5. I think what he is talking about is made out of plastic.
  6. Send them off to a chrome plating shop. It WILL be expensive. Better to just find nice used pieces or buy NOS or new reproduction pieces.
  7. I would stick with the correct Chevy rear ends. Pretty sure the parts to rebuild the Chevy rear ends are cheaper and more readily available. For the 70 12 bolt, you can check the code on the forward side of the axle tube on the passenger side. This code will tell you what it is from. What gear ratio is the 70 rear end? Chevelle and Monte Carlo used the same rear ends. A 3:31 posi would be a CCF code for a 1970.
  8. The lens does not attach to the cluster. It is pushed into the backside of the dash carrier/ housing. You can find these on ebay for about $8.00. NPD National parts Depot has them in their Chevelle catalog on page 23 for $9.95. I would not install the dash into the car until you get one.The cluster must be removed fron the dash housing to install.
  9. The options are listed near the bottom of the sheet. Which ones do you not understand?
  10. That looks like it was meant to be. Looks factory. I like it.
  11. Very nice work. That turned out great. Thanks for sharing. That is so cool make me want to order some now. I could see doing my aluminum pickup wheels that have been damaged by salt with that. Bead blast them an have at it. I could see that skull design on a woodgrain dash panel of a customized Monte Carlo. I give this a thumbs up.
  12. It doe look good. Should have taken a before picture. My bottle is just back to black. Does not say cleaner. I just wipe it on and wipe it off right after. Sometimes I do them twice.
  13. Snomobeelr, I can help you with your issue tomorrow. Too tired to think right now. Must sleep.
  14. Just wipe some on with a rag, then wipe it dry with a dry rag. Should make a huge difference.
  15. If you are referring to the wood grain panel. You can wipe it down with Mothers brand back to black. It will really bring the color back out if the panel is sun faded.
  16. I was going to suggest you get it from a standard steering wheel horn wire harness. The reason why they sell the tab style is because years ago the pretty much discontinued the 68-70 style part after the tabbed was was produced. The tabbed parts were used from 71 to about 77. The other solution is to change the cancelling cam to the 71 style.
  17. Please explain exactly what you are referring to. Are you talking about refinished the plastic dash housing/ carrier, or polishing the lens itself?
  18. Just added some pictures to my last post. They should help to explain myself better.
  19. It fits into a notch in the cancelling cam tube. If you have a 1970 style cancelling cam the black style retainer with the tab will not work.
  20. The parts go into the tube on the canceling cam as they are in my picture. The spring is the first piece to go in, then the pin and then the retaining ring. The retaining ring on a 1970 is different than the 1971 and newer style shown in my picture. A 1970 used a compression fit style, not one with a tab as shown here.
