  1. Pull the choke out (manual choke) or add some other sort of fuel. Not the safest thing to do. I'm sure there are many web sites out there that tell you how to set it up. My Nephew built some huge tail pipes for a local legend in the Detroit area "Sh Boom!". Here is a web site with video of it and a U-Tube with my nephews buddy Murray's flame thrower. Sh Boom! Murray Pfaff Bruce
  2. Just a few comments about TCS and how it differs. My 71 non A/C 350 4BBL no gauges had one twin prong spade connector on the LEFT or drivers side head. I bought a 71 350 4BBL non A/C car with gauges that had a sending unit in both heads because of the gauges (I assume) Both sending units have single terminals the left being a threaded round stud. The right unit I didn't swap out so I can't say what it was. If I would have swapped my rt and left heads when I had them off then the sender would be on the wrong side! With cars this old, you never know for sure if things are the way they were from the factiory so be cautious. How different the 1970 is from a 71 or a 72 I don't know. Just a few things to think about but I would bet all three are slightly different from one another. They could even be different from start of production to end of production in the same year! I thought the 72 TCS had a right side solenoid to shut off vacuum to the dist advance where as my 71 had it on the left side of the engine built into the throttle stop solonoid. Good luck. Bruce
  3. Something else to look for is, if a previous owner did over tighten the pan bolts (this applies to all covers) you may have to push the bolt holes back out using a ball peen hammer. I've seen some really messed up rocker covers over the years from being way overtightened. Good luck, Bruce
  4. Everything is working well for me. I started using Google Chrome about 3 or 4 months ago and I like it's bare bones and speed. One or two of the sites I visit won't work but that's OK. One that wouldn't work now is working but says Chrome is not a supported browser. Good luck.
  5. After many years of exposure to loud noise, it won't bother you a bit because by then you'll be hearing impaired!
  6. Two, that is correct sir! One left of the trans tunnel and one on the rt of the trans tunnel low on the hump part. Like I said before, lot's of belts! Bruce
  7. Yes, I have a belt assembly for a center passenger as well. Lot's of belts! Bruce
  8. My 71 bench seat with Deluxe belts has a "self locking" lap belt (with a small stainless buckle head) and a totally separate shoulder belt with a large stainless buckle head. The shoulder belt must be pulled tight (after it's buckled up) like older style lap belts. Compared to what we have today, these belt's were very uncomfortable. I hate to admit it, but I do not use my shoulder belt. I really should get the new style combination belts like some of the members have. I wonder if it rides and rubs on your neck? Bruce
  9. My wife's Dell laptop got a replacement battery (it could blow up) in a recall. About 9 mths later the battery light started flashing a code like 4 orange 1 green when ever it's charging (plugged in) or on but unplugged. Battery doesn't hold a charge as long now about 10 - 15 min so she keeps it plugged in all the time. Just wait till we are sitting on a battery the size of a garbage can, in our electric car, and it go's bad! No thanks! Bruce
  10. My Comcast cable comes with free McAfee. I assume Comcast saves money on calls from customers with problems that are virus related not cable related. I get updates from McAfee about 3 or 4 times a week and the once weekly total scan slows down the computer. I know I could stop the scan but I don't. Perhaps other cable companies give away free anti virus software too? Bruce

    Back Up

Allan, Only took 20 minutes, not painful at all. One more question, I backed up the C drive, does that include items on my desktop like folders with pictures in it and "MY DOCUMENTS" folder? I assume it did but wanted to ask. Thanks again, Bruce

    Back Up

Everyone is told to back up their computer regularly or you could lose many hours of work or worse, pictures of your Monte Carlo. The questions or recommendations I need (and I assume others here will benefit also)are: How do I back up my computer? What exactly should I back up? Where should I back it up to? When or how ofter should I back up? The Who is me (with your help). I see XP-pro has a BU tool and I used it one time to back up files to my WD external HD. Now on that HD there is one file labeled (Backup_Aug25_2008.bkf). What do I do with that if it's needed? Thanks, Bruce
  14. The wireless linksys we have works great for our DELL laptop, we even print from the lap top to the printer hooked up to the main PC (as long as the main PC is on) The only problem we have is after a power failure, even short blinks, I have to power down the router, wait 10 seconds, power it up again and it works. Bruce
  15. Take a look here and see if anything will work. 71 Monte Carlo Pictures Bruce
  16. I have some pictures here you can look at: Monte Tail Pipes The small dirty tailpipes are my Walker stock replacements 350 4BBL. The others are members cars or from the web. Good Luck! Bruce
  17. I found this on the web you could read over to get some information. Bench to bucket seat change
  18. My 71 came with one that stopped working after about two years and was replaced. Bruce
  19. Is it possible somewhere in time the ft clip was replaced, fenders were a different color than the body, someone taped the inner fenders off to eliminate over-spray and the line now there was the most convenient place to tape it off at. Heck, perhaps at the factory the fenders (I believe) were sprayed at a different place than the (Fisher Body) and the factory assembly line got out of sinc, so they had to spray them. Just guessing here. Bruce
  20. I can't answer your question but I think it looks better this way. I find it hard to believe GM would spend the extra money to tape off that part of the fenders in a (non class A) area. Is it a sharp tape line or is there a fuzzy line? Perhaps a fixture held the fender in that area while it was sprayed. I think the fenders where sprayed in a different area at a different time back then. I could be wrong, I'll ask around. Bruce
  21. Mine "1971" just pushes in. I just use a small screwdriver and pried up slowly as I worked my way around it starting at the bottom where there are two drain holes. Place a soft rag under the screwdriver to avoid damage to the paint. Bruce
  22. More information on this required shimming may be helpful to others. I assume the shim/s would force the converter further into the pump? Is this an issue with using the old style flex plate? Sounds like good information to have. Thanks, Bruce
  23. I worked for DuPont Automotive finishes for 25 years and recommend DuPont products. However, I first recommend letting your painter pick the supplier. If they love PPG and hate DuPont, the end result may reflect their personal preference and experience with that product. As to EXACT match, nobody will know unless they have the master color standard panel and place it on the hood in direct daylight sun. Make sure they know what year the color is for and the code if you have it. I believe it is code 78 but GM reused the color code numbers in different years and reused the color names in different years and the same color was called different names in different car lines (Pont vs Chevy vs Buick vs Olds) Hope this helps. Also check here: Paint Codes Bruce
  24. Jabo, To add a picture to your signiture, follow this: How to add a picture to your sig. Bruce
  25. Jabo, Welcome! So you are the original owner, cool. Someday I would also like to switch to an overdrive transmission for the lower engine speed and lower first gear ratio. My THM350 is original and shifts perfectly but is starting to leak again (149,000 miles now) The people here will be able to help you. Good luck, Bruce
