  1. Mine is leaking and has a grove, I want to remain stock. Are the sleaves any good? Do you then need a different seal? Bruce
  2. Thr Right chrome to match the left remote mirror is available at Ausleys Pt. Number ROM702R $79.95 each. It is not in their ON LINE listing. My e-mail was answered Quote, "yes 79.95" I called today and got more information. The chrome was not good enough on the first run so they had more made. I hope these are good because I sure miss a mirror (never had one) on the right side. I will report back when I get it. Bruce
  3. Has anyone found the right that matches the left REMOTE style yet? I remember one company was trying to produce it but with poor quality didn't release it. I called someone (can't find the company name) and asked them to let me and our club know because I felt we are very interested. I know I want one ASAP. Bruce
  4. I remember the first time I removed the pan to change the fluid and filter, the filter screen was torn! It's got 145,000 miles now and other than leaking a bit still works great! What fluid do you put into them now? In the 70's it was either red for Fords or the GM stuff. Don't know about Chrysler. Bruce
  5. It had one from the factory and since I'm the original owner I know where it's been. Bruce
  6. My 71 350 has one. As few times as people changed the trans fluid and filter they saved some money and dropped it. I think a nut is welded to the inside of mine. Don't know if the work is worth it. Bruce
  7. My stock converter was leaking at a spot in the weld. Cost me two trans pull outs and a ft pump prior to finding out the true cause of the leak. Did anyone mention to check the inside of the dist cap for carbon tracking or a fouled plug where the bad wire was? Could someone have crossed two plug wires as a prank? I did it myself once (not as a prank) good luck. Bruce
  8. About 16 years ago I got GM springs for a 350 with A/C since mine had come down over the first 15 years. I don't have A/C and thought the ft end would have come down by now but it's still a bit too high for my taste. Bruce
  9. From my 71 built in Canada here is a picture. Bruce
  10. It could vari by when or where the Monte was built. My 71 had the black out and it's black. Built in Canada. I repainted the black out to keep it as original as poss. I'm sure it cost a bit to mask off and send the car through the oven again so busy plants may have used a dark color as a way to speed things up and save money. Bruce
  11. I would bet the car has been repainted. Look for overspray or paint on some of the moldings that are hard to remove. OEM paint from the early 70's was not that good. Bruce
  12. Not only SS cars but all Monte Carlos had lower gloss blackout at the lower edge of the doors, the rockers from the sill plate down, the lower rear quarter section forward of the rear wheels and the lower fender section behind the front wheels. If you take a look at the lower body moldings they are two sections there is a gap between them everywhere but behind the rear wheels (one piece) and front of the front wheels (one piece) The body color will show at these gaps and not match the one piece sections mentioned above that have black out on them. On a black car you may not notice. Clear as mud isn't it! Bruce
  13. Nate, I don't know the exact gloss reading but it wasn't very high, more of a semi flat. On my 71 350 4bbl, I went super high gloss wet look black IMRON just because I like the way it looks. Bruce
  14. My 71 350 / THM350 had a one piece cable until I added cruise control, now I have two. Bruce
  15. Just to put one more thought out there, my 71 THM350 started to leak a bit after hitting 90,000+ miles, no big deal BUT! Pulled it at 114,000 for a reseal, still leaked pulled it and resealed again plus a new ft pump, still leaked. Pulled it again and found a crack in the converter weld, replaced it and no more leak. (Over a four year span) now at 148,000 it got a bit of a leak again plus the ft engine seal and rear main seal a bit also. (Cardboard on the floor) Bruce
  16. I have seen one 71 3 on the tree. Keep it!
  17. I know mine is a 350 but I believe they are the same. The larger one is tee'd into the PCV hose. The smaller one is tee'd into the vac. advance (ported spark) hose coming out of the carb. Bruce
  18. Alex, I also brought up an old message. Scan http://home.comcast.net/~stangeba/Protectoplate.jpg
  19. Alex, What you have taken the time to do is great, thanks! I found this web site for Mustangs and was wondering if anyone can program one up for our FGMC site. Don't know if it's possible but I think it would be a cool add on to the site (if it works). One for the body tag would be cool also. Bruce Mustang Decoder
  20. I didn't get the bill yet but I think it was $38.00 US. Here is what the main page looks like. http://home.comcast.net/~stangeba/Build_data_copy.jpg You also get a big pack of photocopied tech information. Bruce
  21. MarchieB, The sport wheel #2 was an option in 1971. I ordered it for my NON SS car (No Tilt on it then). My friend bought a new SS shortly after seeing my Monte and he did NOT have the sport wheel. I think more were found on the 1972 models than 71. They also offered the sport wheel on the Vega, Camaro and Chevelle. I don't know if they were excatly the same or not. I remember a kid in High School got a Vega GT the same time I got my Monte he referred to my sport wheel as a Vega GT wheel. Mine is badly worn (smooth) from 140,000 miles and 32 years but I'll keep it since it came with the car. Bruce
  22. 19MC70 Make sure the speedometer is working. Check all vacuum hoses, wires and the cable to the carb. The switch to shut it off on the brake peddle (I think it also is the brake light switch) could be bad as well as the vacuum release valve also on brake peddle. As mentioned in the above post, they do tend to fall apart inside. My spare part unit was one that did explode. Very sensitive spring inside like a speedometer along with a switch that prevents engagement below about 25 MPH. There is a small air filter on the unit and it could be missing or so dirty the air won't flow. My switch is on the turn sig lever and the small wires tend to break if you have a tilt wheel. I have seen some units that use a mercury switch that shuts off the unit if the car rolls over. If it's bent down, it won't work. Take it slow and good luck. Bruce
  23. Did rear speaker car's have the package tray with mesh in them were the speakers go?. My 71 had metal grills with built in studs. The underside of the speakers had cardboard insulated covers that were held on by one center clip. (If I remember correctly) The cardboard package tray itself was painted cardboard. I replaced mine with a newer (1980) style fuzzy carpet like tray a neighbor made at the Tech Ctr. It has holes in the cardboard but you don't need speaker grills because the carpet hides them. 24. I purchased a doner car with the gauge package. Ended up using all the wiring inside and out. Redline depends on the engine. Mine is yellow @ 4700 red @ 5000 with a 350 4BBL. Doner car had the same engine and no A/C like mine. I remember the other car used two temp sending units one in each head while mine only had one in the left head. Can't remember why. That was over 15 years ago. Bruce ------------------ Original Owner since May 14 1971
