  1. There are decoding pages here for the transmission and rear end. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/resourcespage/
  2. Now I just need to find some trim rings in better condition.

  4. I pulled the engine and trans last month. I already have the trans back from the rebuild. My engine builder took the engine apart and the cam was very worn. I decided to spend the extra money for a roller cam. He said the engine is a great core. I should have the engine back by mid-January.
  5. I'll be staying the night before Gettysburg as well. I look forward to it.
  6. I know some who have successfully removed the clear plastic insert, repainted it and reinstalled the plastic.

  8. Try Trim Parts or The Parts Place
  9. I got my booster from OPGI and installed it 4 or 5 years ago. Looks good and works fine. I'm putting the same one in my 71 SS. The Master Cylinder I have is clearly not correct for a Monte but it works.
  10. I hope the driver and occupants were OK. The fact that there was a pole in front of the truck sure made it a worse impact. It appears to be an SS454 too.
  11. The upper one with the notch is not reproduced as far as I know. You would need to find a good used upper one or buy the reproduction lower one which should still fit. The Parts Place labels that part as 1970-71 lower and 1971 upper (ie, same part upper and lower). https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/product/1971/1971-chevrolet-monte-carlo-rear-body-panel-molding-1970-71-lower-and-1971-upper-mounts-to-the-rear-body-panel-gm-8700888-ea/36391 Also note that the reproduction upper end pieces (often referred to as hockey sticks) do not fit as well as the originals but they still work fine. If you are concerned about it being as factory correct as possible then finding originals would be ideal but not always easy to find and not cheap.
  12. Here’s the upper center trim for a 71 SS. It has a notch cut out of it.
  13. The upper center piece has a slight difference from the bottom one but you could make the bottom one work for the top.
  14. I just make sure there's a Monte nicer than mine parked at the hotel so mine will be left alone... All kidding aside, all the 20 years of I've attended FGMCC/hosted Meets there has not been one incident with a Monte. One year a member's trailer was broken into and a couple minor things were stolen but it is extremely uncommon. The risk of anything happening is so small it isn't worth worrying about in my opinion. Just as I do with any car I park I don't leave anything in my interior as I don't want to give anyone a reason to break in.
  15. Thanks for helping out a rookie. Great info as always. Does the shaft need any lubrication?
  16. Do I not bolt the converter to the engine first then mate them together?
  17. My rebuilt transmission is back and the engine will be a little while yet (350 engine and TH350 trans). Is there anything I need to know about putting the engine and trans together? Any specific lubrication? Recommend getting new bolts or just clean up the old ones? Any other tips? I am doing this out of the car and then putting them in the car as all one unit. Thanks 🙂
  18. Do you have a link to the car you are referring to?
  19. One interesting thing with these style of rims is there are slight differences depending on the vintage. The middle section of the early style rims sticks out further and is flush with the trim ring. The later ones are not out as far exposing a little bit of the inside edge of the trim ring. The hole for the valve stem is also oval on the early style vs round on the later ones. I’m glad I checked mine before I blasted and painted them because one of them was the later style while the other three were the early style. Luckily a club member not too far from me had a set with the opposite problem (1 early style and 3 later style). We swapped rims and both of us now have a matching set of 4 rims.
