Roger OrtizJr
How do we decipher our cowl tags. I've had my Monte for 4 and 1/2 yrs. I've done some small projects on the car. I noticed when I bought the car that the cowl tag and vin # are different. Also the number on the front of engine block has been milled off except for an "H" and it looks to possibly be last letter.LOOKING FOR HELP. THANK YOU. Canuck
Here’s some decoding pages. Note that the last 6 digits of your VIN are not going to match anything on the body tag. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/decodingbodytag/ https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/decodingengine/
Glen
Hey Roger, dumb question…do you know if the motor is original to your car? Means a lot if you plan on using the link Aaron provided to (possibly) make that determination. Good luck!
Scott S.
Wasn't there another thread on the site that determined that an "H" stamp meant it was a factory replacement ??
RichG
Factory Replacements were coded CE for Chevrolet Engine along with a number that correlated to the warranty claim. The number itself had nothing to do with the car per se, just the warranty claim.
