Xxyyzz
So my power steering has always made a slight whine /hum at full lock. All my cars do and its normal. I just replaced my power steering belt, and now it makes a loud screech at full lock. Any ideas? -Mark
bobsmc
the belt should be tighter? or its not the correct width.
zmanabba
When you go full lock the pump will top out its pressure so you don't want to do that for very long-very hard on the pump. When you have to make a hard turn it's always best to back off a bit untill you no longer feel the pump straining. Having said all of that the belt is probably slipping and needs to be tightened. Mo's70MCs
A shot of belt dressing wouldn't hurt it either.
Rob Peters
The pump will also squeal if the fluid level is too low.
