Deluxe seat belt question

Recommended Posts

Can the deluxe seat belt buckles be disassembled? I just picked up a set from a bucket seat Monte and want to get the buckles reconditioned or chromed.

Sorry, I don't know if they come apart (I have/had them on my 71) but before spending money on the old belts, you may want to look at Morris 3 point belts for the ft driver and passenger.

Thought I would try my hand at taking the belts apart. Figured it out!! I am going to see how much it will be to have the buckles redone in maybe chrome. These belts are from a 70 Monte. Here are some pictures:

The covers are reproduced.

Thanks for the info. I will compare the prices of the repros to getting them redone and go from there. OPGI wants $27.99 for each brushed aluminum top. I will see how much my plater wants to do them all.

Went to the local Pull A Part and got the small buckle covers for the front lap belts. Coming along real well!! The replacement came from a 78 Delta 88. Now if only I can find the large buckle covers.

Well, this is a first for me Rodney - I've never seen the inside of a seat belt buckle before - tons of junk in there after 40 years, eh?

Looking great!

Yeah Daryl they are really bad and full of rust. But once you loosen all that junk up the belts move pretty freely. I'm just hitting everything up with some sandpaper and PB blaster before reassembly. I need five of the big buckles with rustfree covers and I will be all set. I bought these belts without seeing them at all and they are pretty bad. The material is in great condition but the buckles are all messed up and need to be refurbished.

I finished the seatbelts today. Thanks to Mike Strinich(mjs-13 for a great deal on the belts), Joe Vega(for another great deal on some buckles), and Jared( I still need two more buckles HELPPPP!!! ). I think they turned out great. I dyed them just to bring them back to a nice dark black since they had faded a lot. Here are some Pictures:

Wow, that's some great resto work on these belts Rodney. It's those little details that show the quality of a restoration. My buckles are the large plastic ones and they were not nearly as bad as yours but I washed every one of the them and the belts came out pretty good, but yours look brand new.

Thanks for the complement MGD. I wish I could take the male ends off and get new ones but that would involve taking stitchings out and getting them resewned. Some of the male ends are kinda bad but they will have to work for now.

I ripped all the stitching out of mine last summer and redyed them with the liquid that you mix with hot water. I had the labels and the ends resewn at an upholstery shop for $25. Check your area for the cost of resewing them.
