Shock replacement recommendation?
Chevy Dave replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in Brakes and Suspension Tech
If your KYBs failed that soon, they are defective. I installed 4 KYB Gas Adjust shocks on my 62 Impala SS 11 years ago, now after 15000 miles they still give excellent handling and ride. I recently installed them on my 70 MC SS 454 on the front and like them. After experiencing a very harsh ride on a 3500 Chevy van and on an 87 Camaro with Bilsteins, I will never purchase them again. . -

I did a little more research on the trans and it is out of a 70's truck, so I need a counterbore yoke 32 spline I believe. Also, just asking here, if the 400 sits further back and I need to get the driveshaft cut could I just buy the right yoke with a new UV joint and when I get the yoke end of the driveshaft cut and replaced with the new yoke and UV? Since the I am staying with my 12 bolt and have the pinion UV still I could reuse that whole end right?

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas. Im currently calling this the Rusty Carlo because as decent as it looks it’s hiding plenty of rust. Will definitely be keeping this thread updated as i go.

SEM Landau Black is the way to go. It even helps seal in sticky horn pads.

Less than 1 season? That’s bad. Were you able to recoup your money through a warranty? - Yesterday

Shock replacement recommendation?

Took Montelishi out for her first run on the new Bilsteins..... I'd have to say I liked them. I understand your point Mark, but after the KYB's failed in less than one season, I figured the extra $$$ was worth a try. -

Might require some type of a crane/elevator system to get all the passengers loaded though....

Moog has a good selection of U joints as well. -
No need to worry about A/C in that !!!

NP... Get the yoke first and measure it. I made the mistake of ordering a UV for my diff. when I switched from an 8.2" to a 12 bolt. Found out they both use the same joint AFTER it arrived. Now I've got a joint I'll probably never use.

Driveshaft and Yoke for a 454/400

It's the stock 12 bolt rear end. Would you know where I could source the correct yoke to match the u joints you mentioned? -

What rear end are you using? The 12 bolt has a longer pinion than a 10 bolt. Also the u- joint is made by a few companies. It used to be called a "trick" joint by Lakewood. Moog also makes it, I believe it's called a "combo" joint. It has the 350 big caps and the 400 small caps. -
They sure do. Their color coat automotive interior paint works well. They also make a mild solvent based wax and grease remover for prep, which is extremely important because of all the silicone based spray and wipe protectants used on interiors. Silicone is a painters worst nightmare.

I used the sem trim black like Dennis suggested to you on my son's dash before doing the chrome trim with a paint marker.

I don't think he's crazy on price. Go buy a 454, 400 turbo, 12 bolt rear end. Buckets seats, Console, Tilt column, Tach and Gauge dash Assembly, AM-FM 8 Track, F-41 sway bars and control arms, Fiber optics, Rear window defroster, NOS fenders and 1/4 panel, Etc. You are looking at several thousand dollars.
