  5. nice sometimes it work's, sometimes it didn't. story of my life
  6. I've had good luck with the GM Performance Parts water necks actually. O-ring seal & thick enough flange where it doesn't leak. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12342024?srsltid=AfmBOoqvBMprjF1woC_wd5BZ35O5HtIhT4UtmhTF-5lUT8yi3ljary36llA https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-GM-Performance-12342024-Chrome/dp/B00G51R9VQ?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
  7. Cutting 1" off the free height of any of the front end springs used by GM in the first gen assembly process will reduce its pre-load value by its deflection rate in pounds. If your original spring was any of the three stronger springs (codes GI, GO or GQ in box 13 of your Build Sheet), the front end preload would be reduced by 550 pounds (2 springs x 275 lbs/inch x 1 inch free height reduction). That will, of course, result in lowering the front end but it should not change the ride characteristics since the remaining spring height still has the original deflection rate and is operating at the working height of 11.7" (dictated by the stock front suspension geometry). If the resulting stance and ride are to your liking, then it's all good. What I would be more concerned about is the fairly limited ground clearance you appear to have with your exhaust system between the headers and mufflers. If ground clearance was originally limited, lowering the front end has probably made it a bit worse. I took my '70 to a rural steam engine show several years ago shortly after installing new shorty headers and a larger diameter exhaust system. As I pulled off a recently resurfaced highway onto a rural road, the transition bend coming off the driver's side header collector drug on the edge ridge of the new surface so much it broke the pipe weld. I ended up fabricating a new transition pipe with a much sharper radius to give the exhaust system more ground clearance. Maybe you have straight-back header collectors? Is there any way you can raise your exhaust system between the headers and mufflers to achieve better ground clearance?
  8. those chrome suckers never seal, even if you scuff em !!! been there done that.
  9. Yesterday
  10. Just saying, this looks to be the biggest FGMCC meet, at least as few as Ive attended. Yes all the cars are great, but it's the people that really make it work.
  11. Don't forget water necks 🙃 That one cured me of the chrome goodies
  12. Always interested in more First Generation additions to my fold. when I return home i'm selling my other gems and keeping and collecting only first generation Monte Carlo's Going to build a special building to store, the collection. as I said always and very interested,
  13. I’ve always felt there was nothing on the underside of a car that should be highlighted by chrome or contrasting paint colors. I think it should just blend into one and disappear. But this is just my opinion, and we all know the saying about opinions. Personal preference is what matters. Do what makes you happy.
  14. They still have an airport. lol.
  15. I don’t trust any of the chrome goodies like that. Back in the day I used them and they all leaked. Valve covers, diff cover, transmission pans. But I did learn if you scuff the sealing surface they did better. If you kept them on and they didn’t leak they just rusted. No wonder they went out of business.
  16. I have two 10 aluminum t/a covers , new in box if anyone is interested.
  17. several of my friend went with the chrome diff cover and every one of them leaked so they went with cast aluminum or back stock
  18. we're actually Midstate, buffalo. about 20 miles east of Springfield.
  19. your killing me!!! you know I would love that. I'll have a talk with the wife
  20. Take that chrome alternator to the parts store and have it tested, your original one also. I’ve seen a lot of them bad out of the box. Same with voltage regulators. Instead of going back to Chicago you could delay it a bit and head the other direction to Carlisle. Get to see a lot of nice cars and meet some good people. I think that should help the recovery process too.
  21. Back 275/60/R15 Front 235/60/R15
