  1. Hi everyone! Finally took "Big Red" out of hybernation. Shame on me. Today's endeavor was to remove the 12 bolt rear from "Big Red" to install an identical 12 bolt, the original, numbers matching rear that came with her. Now, the 12 bolt that came out is going to go into "Barn Find". Barn finds original rear was removed a long time ago for unknown reasons. This is where it gets amazing, astounding, get the F-$k outa here. My brother, the numbers guy, checks the numbers and codes on the rear going into barn find..... It's the correct year, and code for the barn find! Checked the build sheet and had the same code! It was assembled April of 70 and barn find was assembled September of 70 for 71. Imagine the luck on that??? We are dumbfounded also. Ya never know.

  3. Moving backwards... Popped the oil pan off & noticed the oil pump drive still had the nylon sleeve. Ordered that (with steel sleeve), the BB GM windage tray & 4 studs, and the valley cover heat shield from my GM dealer. Found the receipt for those same parts when I ordered them for the LS6 in the Z/28....dated 12-9-88. Part numbers were even the same except for the valley cover. Boy, I sure wish I would have bought the parts back then, nearly 1/4 the price compared to today.

  5. Frankly, Tom, I would pass on both of those and just contact Steve Redmyer (sredmyer) in this club. He has a stable full of '70 SS models including one or more triple black beauties. Not sure if he is ready to let any go right now, but he has been known to in the past. Good luck.

  6. Plumbed the Roll Control (line loc) yesterday, now just have to connect the wires for the switch and light. Hope to get that done today if it doesn't rain, wish it wasn't so bloody hot out though lol. Learned something else, you can't just order any 1350 u-joint for the drive shaft at the rear, apparently with the TH400 the caps aren't all the same size so i'll be returning my mistake to summit lol. Luckily the local NAPA had one in stock so only a small set back. Hope to take tomorrow off and take the DD to the track, the race that was canceled due to the hurricane got rescheduled for tomorrow.

  7. An update on my car, been out putting some miles on it, getting everything broken in again the new driveshaft is working out pretty nice, laid down a bit of rubber just to see if it would, not a problem.

  8. Still putting on break in miles and dodging rain clouds lol. Did a final tweak on the tune up last week and it screams now with the 3.55 gears. Noticed a few greasy paw prints (have no idea how they got there after working on the rear for days lol) so did a quick spray on detail wax. Thought I still had some good stuff but the bottle was empty, so thats an order for Monday. I used the 303 aerospace protectant (recommended on a different thread) on the top and I thought it came out nice so I too would recommend.
