Will these coilovers work, before I pull the trigger!
72MC replied to o_rod's topic in Brakes and Suspension Tech
I had the QA1 setup on my Monte. I had a small block with aluminum heads, aluminum intake, ultra lite forged crank, etc. I originally bought setup with #350 springs and didn't like the compressed height. I didn't like the lack of potential spring play on compression. Kept the #350 springs as a spare and bought the #450 springs. I liked the #450 springs much better. Also, for what is worth, get the dual adjusting setup. Extra money but you'll be happy with the dual adjusting shocks. JMO. - Dave -

Man!!!!!!! you got your work cut out for you. Me personally, I'm pulling her and doing a complete rebuild and clean up in the whole engine bay. My Opinion, don't bother with the degreaser. Either rebuild her and clean her up proper or don't bother with the degreaser cans and water. "Being sarcastic", what are your plans, degrease her, paint bomb her and do what ???? Either enjoy her or Re-Do her !!!!!!!! My 2 pennies. - Dave

"Will either option give me enough seat of the pants torque improvement to justify a cam change/expense? Which option for my combination? Or should I just keep what I already have?" NO !!!! Keep what you have or rebuild it to what you want to accomplish. If you want that thrust in the seat of your pants it is gonna take some cash. You can build a SBC or BBC with big torque/HP engine but can the tranny take it? Can the rear take it? Going fast cost $$$$$. Until you can pay the piper, enjoy what you have. Just my 2 pennies. - Dave

I will preface my reply with this comment,... talking about fluids whether organic or synthetic or by brands is like talking about politics. Everyone thinks there choice is the only correct one based on supposed experience. I know alot of places that build custom transmissions whether Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc., will either recommend Mercon or include it with the tranny upon delivery. There is a high volume of people that think it is better than Dexron. My recommendation to you is this. If you are going to thrash or beat on your machine with quick acceleration and downshifting, etc., change the fluid often. That would be considered severe duty. With regards to a tranny, drain the pan and refill what you took out. Organic transmission fluid that stays above 200 degrees and higher, degrades quickly. In some instances 10,000 miles. I am not going to get into brands I recommend or types of fluid. They're all at least decent. Hope that helps at least a little bit. - Dave

If I'm reading you correctly the answer is no. There is no need for 2 fuel pumps on your engine. - Dave

I had 255/60/15 on my 15X8 chrome rallys and I thought they were just right. Meaty but not over the top. - Dave

That's a full roller assembly with all forged parts. Oh yeah baby. Have it built to support a ProCharger in the future. Oh,...sorry,...I find myself drooling,...gatta gochange my shirt . - Dave.

I use to take a dry wall cutting drill bit(a drill bit with a hundred or so teeth all over the entire shaft of the bit) and destroy all the rubber in between the outer shell and the inner steel sleeve. It would take about 5 minutes per bushing. Once the rubber is out, and yes the inner sleeve will be easier to remove when the rubber is destroyed. Just pound the outer sleeve from all angles until it crumples and comes out. There is no easy way to remove OLD bushings. It is, however, very easy to install new ones(helps to have a press). Good Luck. - Dave

I'm with Sam. Until you're ready for a new heart(engine) transplant or a rebuild, don't waste your money. Save and decide what you really want to do with your girl. - Dave

Nice work Cory. You're gonna have fun with that engine. From a "looks" stand point, I would have painted the rough surface of the heads orange. Reason?,,,, helps in clean up with oil, dirt and grime. Also, gives it a real custom look. Painted engine parts,.. then put together,...is a beautiful thing. Other than that,....enjoy!!!! Drive that baby like you stole it. You will have a ball I'm sure! I'm am very very happy for you. That is a beautiful car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Dave
