  1. The exterior side is a weatherstrip. Not made for Monte's. I believe the Oldsmobile guys have that moulding available. For the 70-72 Cutlass SX coupe. (Not fast back/442)
  2. Idk. Maybe, but that one is relatively easy to find and get. The chrome and weatherstrip. I'm thinking it seals the rear quarter window to the sail panel of the quarter. We will have to wait for his response. Lol
  3. Hello! Welcome! Your question is a little vague. Would love to see some pics.
  4. Hi Crank. Short answer... NO! The shocks are towards the front of the rear, rear itself is longer, driveshaft has a CV joint type set up and you can not find gears or posi for that rear. It's not a 12 bolt like you think. Go on the Oldsmobile forums and you will see what I am talking about. Quick answer is let it go. Not what you want or need. Just my .02
  5. With console- no pattern on ball Without console- pattern on ball
  6. Thank you all for the quick responses. Sredmyer- the shifter ball is left blank on the Montes and Chevelle's because the "4speed pattern" is on the console.
  7. Hello all. Getting ready to start to restore my 71 402 4speed, classic copper, dark saddle int Monte Carlo this winter. Does anyone know what shifter ball came on the 4speed cars? I know they were plain, no 4speed pattern on them due to the pattern being on the console. Black or white?
  8. I bet it was alot of work. I had to ask. Lol I cant wait to see what you do. I would like to put the sport mirrors on both of my 71 402 Monte's.
  9. Nice job Steve! Ummmm making any more? Lol. Just asking. I couldn't agree with you more about driving without the right side mirror! PITA!!!!
  10. Over on Chevelle stuff.net there is an engine chart. CKN- 402, 4bbl, 330hp,LS3, th400. Your engine has the correct code. Most likely the original engine. Could check the casting codes and match them to the cars build date. Good luck finding the VIN.
  11. More than welcome. Lol good luck!
  12. Some put them in the glove box. I personally put mine on the fender well by the battery under the fender. Basically where the wires for the front turnsignal goes through the fender well. Tucked out of the way and still accessable.
  13. Hi Steve. This info has been mentioned in other threads. I have made the same statement about the AMD quarter panels. I have a set of nos quarters for my 71 402 4speed and my brother and myself installed a set of AMD quarters on his 72. The AMD is as good if not better than the factory originals. All the correct holes and lines. Fitment is second to none. If I didn't have the NOS panels for my 71, I would definitely buy the AMD! A full set of quarter panels for about the price of one NOS quarter when you find them. Just my .02

Great progress! Looks great! I hope you find a posi and better gears. Remember... No stupid questions here. We are family! Here to help one and all any way we can. Keep up the good work and more pics!! 😁
  15. Hi Carl. The 70 brackets are different than the 71-72. The 71-2 has a "bulge" or slight kickout to the main bracket. The smaller bracket on the 71-2 also has a hole added between the mounting bolt positions. The bracket for the 70 will mount the 71 bumper correctly BUT I believe the kickout is to make room for the 71s rectangle turnsignal. The 70s round signal doesn't need the extra room. And we know the 72 has the signals in the grille. Should you need or want the 71-72 brackets I have a few sets.
  16. I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm referring to Mr Overdrive.
  17. Dan, I have been pm'n you. Have you been getting them? Thanks.
  18. Mr Peters, I have the same setup on my 70 Monte Carlo SS454. My other 71s and 72 do not. As far as the Monte Carlo goes, I believe the early 70s had this type of brake set up. Growing up my mom had a 70 that started my love affair with the Monte Carlo that did not have the setup that lowcadilliac pictured.
  19. #1- 70 SS454 cranberry red, black top and interior but numbers matching. 1st big dog of our models! #2- 71 402 4 speed, classic copper. Big block, 4speed, one year only color on a rare Monte #3- 71 402 auto. Lots of options. A big block that is user friendly. Lolol Oh wait! I have all my dream cars 😲 now if I could find the time to drive them. 🤔
  20. You will get a few opinions here. I personally used legendary for my seat covers and foam for my front buckets and rear seats in my 70. The covers are cloth. Legendary covers matched my old ones and are made very well. As far as the headliner, idk. Lol I need one also. I think I will get the headliner kit and have a professional install it.
  21. Wow! Sorry for the Carnage. You can put an open chamber head on an engine with closed chamber pistons but not a closed chamber head on an engine with open chamber pistons. Unfortunately many a person has found that out the same way the engine you have has. Glad to hear you have a new engine and are putting into that nice Monte! Good luck!
  22. The usual causes of a bad bushing is usually a bad hub on the torque converter. (Not centered or crooked) . If just the seal, a groove worn into the hub where the seal rides or like most of us, not using the car much and the seal drying out.
  23. Ian, also think about the torque converter. Most likely worn also, the hub.
