  1. Excelent build! You will be really happy with a built engine, it just makes you a lot more comfortabel every time you hit it! Keep the pics coming
  2. I got a digital camcorder so hopefully soon i can get a video of it. Im not going to intercool it because there is no need to right now. That and when i go over to E85 in the spring it will be the same as intercooled due to the cooling effect of the ethanol. I really dont want to put a cage in the car! However i am slowly starting to realize that it should have one. My frame really isnt as nice as i would like for it to be so if i were to put the cage in it it would be captured to the body and more or less permenant then.............. This winter i will be redoing the rear axle and getting a new driveshaft. Only thing the engine setup really needs at this point is a digital ignition advance setup that retards with boost. I am running the dist. locked out at 23* As far as more power, in the future all i should have to do is change out the wastegate spring and i could most likely build enough power to break the block!
  3. Look at the second page in this forum for the "so i didnt make it to indy" subject it has some pics and a description
  4. Here are some pics i found that they take at the local dragstrip, i would buy one but none of the are really good shots...... anyhow proof the thing runs with the turbo! My trip out last week i ran a 11.53@111, second pass was 11.57@119 i was easy on the first 330 then tried to get a mph pass in but still was out of it early. The thing runs out of gear now, On the old setup the best mph was 102 hahah. I am having to hit overdrive the 4.11's and converter slip.... needless to say there is more mph left in her. The last run i ran her a little harder mostly launched just a little harder and ran a 11.02@113 still off the pedal obviously by the mph. The bad part is i have no cage in the car, no driveshaft loop(in the garage waiting fab work) stock shortened driveshaft and stock 12bolt axles................. Oh well winter is coming quickly and i dont know that i will even make it back out. I was wanting to get her down the the no cage limit of 11.50 but i guess i set my expectations way low..... I would imagine it could run a 10.5x or so with the driveline straightened out so i could bring it off the line. Enjoy! http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/ThumbPage.aspx?e=3162525&s=125 http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/ThumbPage.aspx?e=3162525&s=0 http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/ThumbPage.aspx?e=3178655&s=25 http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/ThumbPage.aspx?e=3178655&s=150
  5. i kind of remember my vfn hood having a similar condition. I sat a cement clock on it with the hump spanning some wood peices for a while. But to be entirely honest with you i dont remember what fixed it maybe it was time or something who knows hahah to may projests after all the years you loose track of some of them... good luck!
  6. Put screws in the holes to locate them, Use a roller to roll it down, and be careful the edges can be extreamely sharp on the foil after cutting. Tin snips seem to work the best to cut it. Good luck my entire inside including roof is dynomat xtreme. Didsnt quiet the car like i thought though for me anyhow i had a Resonance problem.
  7. if your planning on putting that turbo setup in the monte the headers will hit the steering shaft for sure. i know i have a set sitting in my garage. and ended up building my own. that is it looks like the stainless ebay setup? Just something to work around! looks like you have a really good start to your project!
  8. save your money and buy a good stall converter!!! your not going to gain anything with that swap. Get a 3k stall at least if you want to really have fun. Eli btw i went from 2.73 to a 4.11 and a 700r4 and i still bet my stall helped almost as much.
  9. I went from flowmasters to magnaflows..................... I like the magnaflows better. Its like a progression, you start out with flowmasters because they are what everyone has and then you get tired of the noise and having an exhaust that sounds like millions of others. Then you change it and will be happy and start to think that flowmasters sound annoying. That looks like a nice kit make sure you get some pics/vids of it installed!
  10. OK shaved door handles are a pretty large project and it depends on how you go about it. I did mine useing the factory door latches moved into the door pilliar and modified. of course this is most likely the very hardest most involved route i could have went. You could simply add a solenoid to your stock latches and just close over the handle holes. On your second questions about all of the fiberglass. My opinion is that you shouldn't consider fiberglass spend the extra money and get good sheetmetal. If you are going to try and put that much fiberglass on a car and have no experience you will be very dissapointed with the amount of work involved in getting the thing to look good. My fenders, hood and bumpers are all glass. They requires a ton of body work to get looking good and straight. They are not obviously glass but it was a lot of hard work getting them there. For someone with limited experience the extra money required to get the right parts saves un imaginable time in makeing what you thought was going to be the cheaper route work. Not trying to say that i would never do it again just warning that there is a significant amount of problems involved if your intrested pm me and ill go into some of them.
  11. Ok im looking into replacing my axles with aftermarket ones to gain reliability on the strip. I know there are a few brands just thought i would ask if anyone has use or recomends certain ones over others... Thanks Eli
  12. is it just me or is this way over thinking..... only time there should be much of a problem is if there is current flow across the parts. So unless your exhaust is your ground strap no worries. also consider that stainless is much less likely to erode than most other things. another thing to consider is that in some cases its hard to find a header for a newer car that isnt stainless.
  13. for me one of the best advantages of the 700r4 is that i can run my 3500 stall and lock it up so it doesnt burn up the trans and keeps the rpms down a bit due to the 4.11's the company i got parts from claimed good for 600hp and they had even better stuff than what i got!
  14. the LM1 will make you want fuel injection real bad! but with time and given you have an adjustable carb and can put the meter to use its the best thing anyone can have short of a dyno to tuen your car. I have the rpm converter and a map sensor to know how much load i'm under and to know how many rpms. otherwise your really going to be lost. I take my laptop to the drag strip and can view graphs of my runs and get an idea of where i need to go. On the street you can just record onto the lm1 up to 44 minutes. But be prepared its hard to tell exactly what happened when on the recording so its also easiest to drive around with help and watch the live data on a laptop so you can simulate different conditions and see directly what is going on. Your entire engine combo affects a/f and there is no magic number. Also worth noting is that if your only in it for gas mileage dont waste your time. the price of the unit rules that out would take forever to save that much money in gas on a car you only use on occasion......then you have to figgure in a bunch of extra driving around only to tune the thing........... then theres the fuel lost at carb recalibrations........ im thinking it goes like this: Innovate LM1--> $459 Six tanks of gas-----> $360 Jets air bleeds small parts------> $150 Finding out that your carb won't work the way you wish it would--------> EXPENSIVE! For every other reason than fuel mileage theres the wide band 0'2. Do yourself a favor and dont waste the money on a WB for a Q-jet buy a top of the line holley and youll be leaps and bounds ahead for the same money.
  15. they are one in the same for 70's and the 71-72 are the same but the years differ from one another in small amounts, has to do with venting different.
  16. I have the M/T drag radials pretty nice very soft for a street tire suposed to be best one out and there are people runing insane numbers on them. I havent tried to go down on pressure to much yet but they make a huge difference!
  17. I can smell the fuel in the air must be that time of year..........that or i have been in the garage to long with the door down! Congrats i know how much anticipation there is knocking on the window of the next second down now. Maybe i need to talk to Rice about my SB ideas this winter so next fall i can be trying for 11's......well maybe just a little lower in the 12's
  18. Does anyone know if hooker 2116 supercomps will fit our monte's it says they need a mini starterwith the 168 flywheel they are 1 3/4 tube equal length Also i am running a moroso 7qt kick out pan any input would be great! thanks again, Eli
  19. Was the whine engine or road speed meaning did it change pitch with change of engine speeds or did it change with change in road speed?
  20. Kevin, I understand your decision to step down. I myself am only 21 and i have been noticing that these are the years that start to shape the rest of your life and how important it is to make the right decision. I have been around since before i can remember back on the old web site and from time to time i have participated a lot in conversations on the board and times when i didnt have time to even check it for a month at a time. People come and people go but you have been such a strong leader by putting forth so much dedication. I have to congradulate you for makeing it this long at such a young age. There are not many people in the world that could have contributed so much in time and effort to something that back in the day seemed like we were few and far in between(monte owners) to now what you and everyone else has built to be a place where we all feel united as a family. It keeps us from getting overwhelmed with the diffaculties of having a love for a out of the ordinary car. I just want you and everyone else to know that this website has been the savior to me with respect to my monte. If it wasn't for your wesite and club efforts i am not sure that i would have been able to make it so far with my monte. You truely have created a place that helps people more than you can imagine. Thank you Very Much! And Pete, what can i say but i sure wish he would have handed the club over to someone worth a darn:-) Actually i agree that Pete is our best man for the job. Pete has had such an intrest in the board for as long as i remember him. i see it only fit for him to step up in the world from being just crappy old #2.
  21. OK i have experience with flux core........ you absolutely want to go mig! ok first off are you weling mig with gas or are you running flux core. OK first off check under the side cover for your power and speed recomended setting set them according to what your welding. next off are you welding perfectly clean steel? rust and other contaminants can cause problems. Ok now that you have the recomended settings and clean metal. The biggest thing for a first time welder is to take your time and be smooth. IF you still have problems i would suggest reading up more on welding. mig will weld much smoother and cleaner that flux core therfore i would strongly recomend it. Oh and one more thing, when you switch from mig to flux you have to reverse the polarity on the welder and vice versa. You may want to make sure that its correct now. its possible to learn on your own i havent had any training at all. i got a welder, read the manual, and started welding. now, as you are i had quite a while of crappy welding but now, almost 5 years later i consider myself to be a pretty good welder for learning all on my own. good luck, Eli
  22. I installed dynamat Extreme liner on my floor boards. it was very easy to install super sticky and has a aluminum faceing. I might be able to get a deal on there bulk pack if someone was interested. as for the finger, get you some mechanix gloves they save fingers.
  23. Andreas is right, to properly setup gears you need a few hundred dollars in tools. So most likely just take it to a competent shop to have the setup done.
  24. A sales rep from jasper engine brought a valve body by our shop and showed us that something as small as a human hair can stick a valve very easily. just to keep in mind if you rebuild your own tranny
  25. that is what the papers that came with my richmond gears said also.
