    New Guy Here

Hey!! I resemble that remark! All BS aside, your attention to detail and workmanship is absolutely incredible. Not to mention your garage. Maybe it’s time you apply this level of effort towards your texts and memes… just sayin’.
  2. Im particularly good at remembering things and figuring out things which are of little or no importance or consequence. “Mediocrity” is my war cry. And generally mundane s%#t? Oh yeah, that’s where I’m a Viking 😂🤣
  3. Welcome, Dave!! Great looking ‘70… for the first couple seconds/pictures I thought there was another Shadow Gray in the ranks. Either way, beautiful car you have there. And am I to assume that’s a Van Halen reference in your screen name?
  4. I gotta keep this one in mind for next year, didn’t realize it’s only about a +/- 300 mile ride for me.
  5. For what it’s worth you should contact the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and initiate a formal complaint. Depending on the BBB’s history with the ‘Lemon Squad’, your complaint may be what it takes to get them on the radar. And thanks for the heads-up… not enough people open their mouth‘s when crap like this happens. Me? I’m a MF’er and will go to the ends of the earth to prove a point and create headaches for people/businesses/entities that try to run game and get over on the little guy.
  6. I can personally attest to Bobs workmanship as I purchased one from him for my ‘70 for when it’s time to put her back to stock. There’s an existing one on her now, but not sure if it’s operable. So I figured I’d have a complete replacement one ready to go. I just need to locate the valve and hardware now.
  7. Glad to see your progress. Keep up the great work and don’t forget to update us here regularly with pix.
  8. Damn, dude, sorry to hear what’s on your plate. When it rains, it pours. It’s never easy losing a pet, so please extend my condolences to your better half as well. And yes, the car can wait, it’s not going anywhere. Take care of the important stuff.
  9. Exactly. 70. 72. 71 (No clue why they didn’t appear in order) But those who know will know…
  10. No clue, as neither of mine have that option.
  11. Ha! Not at all. I just recognized him as being the owner and giving commentary about his Monte in that video. I had literally just watched it for a second time a couple weeks ago when I was bored and going through Monte related videos on YouTube. He was quick to tell me that him miss spoke when he said he used it as a daily driver and to go barhopping… he clarified that he never drove it in the winter.
  12. Interesting sidenote… At one point during the show I’m watching two guys extremely interested in the engine bay and firewall. I was sitting away from the car at the time because it was brutally hot in the sun, so I walked over and introduced myself. One of the guys says he’s looking at the firewall for where/how a wire is attached to the coil as his 71 SS’s wiring harness had somewhat melted and he had the dash out to try to troubleshoot and replace the wiring. I’m looking at him and it dawns on me that I know him from somewhere. Small world..
  13. Better late than never, this was Thursday, but have just been too busy to post. Gonna limit the pix to the other First Gens (finally!) as loading pix seems to be hit or miss lately here for my tech-challenged a%#. I barely had time to walk around and I’m sure I likely missed a few more Montes. That said, the “Star of the Show” appears last…
  14. Almost, Willie… my mechanic is going to replace the float next, just waiting till the weather isn’t as crazy hot. Timing is spot on now, but the carb still has him scratching his head after the rebuild, says he doesn’t remember his 71 SS being as finicky. For now she’ll stall when I put her into gear, even while idling high, unless I let her warm up several minutes. But once the choke is close to/completely open, she runs awesome. At the end of the day, I blame Dennis.
  15. Who’s gonna be the first to crack wise about someone having sugar in their tank?
  16. Thanks Rob. I’m happy with the way it turned out. Thanks Paul. More pix of them together coming soon. It is. Performed by ‘The Turtles’, I believe. No, Dennis, they weren’t of then Teenage Mutant Ninja variety.
  17. I agree… That thing had to scream with that gearbox, 300 HP and 3.31s. I’m working on trying to see if this car is still around. The dealership it was originally shipped to is still in existence, albeit at a different address. I got a hold of a young lady in customer service there (Daniel Motors Inc. - aka Daniels Chevrolet in Colorado Springs) yesterday and explained what I had. I provided her with the VIN and she searched their database as well as some sort of GM database… with negative results. Worst case scenario, it’ll supplement the provenance I have for my ‘70. Either way I was excited that it was discovered.
  18. Picked the ‘70 up from the trim shop today. Had the new interior installed over the last few weeks after it took close to a year and a half to accumulate all the material. FU, Covid Scamdemic. Gave her a quick bath before putting her up for the night.
  19. I found two phone numbers to ‘Daniels Motors Inc.” in Colorado Springs to try to work that angle… One was no longer in service and the other one rang off the hook with no voicemail option. I’ll do more hunting/digging when time permits.
  20. Went to retrieve my ‘70 from the trim shop today. Good news and bad news. Bad news first: drivers door glass didn’t want to roll all the way down and passenger quarter window is getting caught up between the window felts and molding/gasket. To the point where the chrome strip/molding is being pulled off the edge of the glass. Too much tension between the new materials and window glass is how they explained it to me, which makes sense. Door panel and armrest base screws were backed out a little bit to relieve tension and that worked for the drivers glass. The rubber molding on the door jam that goes under the interior quarter panel will be getting shaved down half thickness to hopefully alleviate the tension there. I told them I’ll be back to pick up the car later (hopefully). The good news? They presented me with a build sheet they found between the vinyl cover and the batting in the rear seat. It’s in wonderful shape all things considered. Only thing is that it doesn’t belong to my car. This VIN is three cars after mine (016 vs. 013) and the Sequence Number is 6 higher than my car (6260 vs. 6254). Thinking about this I envision a stack of black rear seats waiting to be installed and someone grabbing one out of order that already had the build sheet tucked into it. Both cars came with black vinyl seats, so… While surely a long shot here, if this might be yours let me know and I’ll be happy to get it to you. In the meantime I’ll see if my friend at the DMV can see if it’s still registered somewhere. Check it out… A nicely optioned car!! 300 hp four-speed with a ton of amenities.
  21. Just seeing this post/thread now. My deepest condolences to both families mourning the loss of their patriarchs.
  22. Based on listings and sales the last few years, I find this Hagerty article less than realistic. I’m keenly aware that several factors are to be considered regarding valuation parameters, but this assessment seems skewed. I felt it was only proper to leave a comment referencing Monte Carlo sales at Mecum in May. What say you gents? https://insider.hagerty.com/trends/even-in-a-strong-market-some-cars-lost-ground-last-quarter/
  23. Ditch the ‘SS’ emblems the same time you deep-six the opera windows.
